mods don't count
I've been noticing that not a lot of people talk about these games. Were they crap, or were they better then the big trashpile that is majority of western erotic games? I'm mostly trying for western erotic games, but old school hentai games are good too.
I haven't sadly played any yet.
Also since some anons would like talk about lula (i think) games I'm giving it up to 2010 everything after that can be elsewere and no flash games don't count.
What do the spoilers spoil?

Nothing outside of infirmation. No urls or anything.
I heard that YU-NO is pretty good, though haven't played yet. Also heard that it is very hard to finish without a walkthrough.

Played Words Worth for PC98 after playing the windows version, haven't finished it though. Windows version limited how much xp you can gain on each level, while PC98 had this broken difficulty curve where the enemies on the very start of the game are the only ones that can actually kill you, but if you survive them and grind for a bit, the rest of the game is a breeze. The windows version is also made softer, you no longer rape every girl you defeat, and just look at their boobs or whatever instead, it is lamer in that sense. The art in the windows version is better than in PC98 version. Heard that story in windows version was twisted a bit, so it makes less sense, though I don't know what they meant.

Playing 腐り姫 by liar soft right now, https://liar.co.jp/ , 2002. I have expectations, not sure if it will meet them. Probably not.
Everything by littlewitch is worth checking out. I don't think it was translated though.

Words worth translation was machine translation, you should be aware of that. Text in there isn't too complicated, except for one babaa that dumps lore on you at the start of the game.

Like with everything, most of them are crap but there are some gems in the pile. The Rance games are obviously amazing, Sengoku Rance being one of the standouts, but everyone already raves about that one. I have fond memories of Knights of Xentar and Cobra Mission, two silly RPGs. They're objectively pretty lame but still a fun time, I think.
Um. Eushully's stuff is great. Ikusa Megumi Zero is a fantastic RPG, and I think the translation is less garbage than it used to be?
Lol at early western erotic games, though. I think those included strip poker, strip breakout, and nothing else.

Anyone who knows "Biing!"? It was not that popular compared to lula but I believe also from Germany. Someone was working on a successor which now looks abandoned.

Leisure suit Larry wasn't much of a porn game, more like a smutty game with lots of dirty jokes.

I don't think I've heard of it. But I've seen something simmilar from Germany too

>Were they crap
Going back to the 1980's? Yes. Yes, they were crap. Everything new is literally better in terms of production values and functionality.
> Samantha Fox strip poker anyone?
> How about text based with no graphics?
> Custers Last Revenge on cartridge, bought at the local video rental place as a novelty?
Etc.

1980's is a bit far back.
A lot of the current patreon games don't beat the original Lula which is getting close to being 25 years old.

I call everything with interactivity games. Heck, I call adventure books with "to fight monster, go to page 17, to not fight monster, go to page 17" games too. I in fact posted manga in favorite games thread before.

Baldr Sky is a 2009 game, fits just nice. Play it, it's great. Heard that it's better to play some previous Baldr before that, but, well, too late for me.

Generally it's easier to make content of all types now, not just video games. Dev engines like Twine and Renpy make the creation of games extremely simple.

Free Cities is an example of a great text game, but I expect a fully gfx version with VR in the near future and it will be even better...

My point is the explosion of crummy content is a feature not a bug. The good ones eventually break through.

The voice acting was understandingly low quality when VN's started to implement voice clips, other than that, i respect old VN's due how detailed they were with the clothes and shades instead of the saturated color blobs that most VN's became today

Bit off topic, but have you seen what's possible with the newest AI image generation? At some point, you'll just be able to describe to computer what you want to see and it'll be generated.
Brave new world.

if normies knew the shit you can generate they'd want it banned or censored just like they did with AI Dungeon and similar.
you can literally tell it to generate anything you want from boring normie shit to things that will get you on lists.
though most times you get weird shit, other times you get triple titty eldritch things, if you're lucky you get something you look for and sometimes you strike gold.

What a shortsighted viewpoint this tech is still in its infancy and it can already produce stuff that is appealing to many and often difficult to distinguish at first glance. Yes it makes mistakes like fucked up anatomy and weird details but its a numbers game with good prompts and enough attempts as well as minor corrections you can produce flawless works. Now think where this tech will be in a year or 2 or 5 or 10.

i really don't think it'll be anywhere. most "artists", not even specifically talking about drawings, produce such shitty art because they are souless mkultra'd golems. what more of "ai. it's neato, that's all it is, they're gonna make mass-appeal for an unfinished thing and try to make money out of it. it's just like robots, they make prototypes but they'll never be able to make anything decent because the world is fucked
why do they call anything AI now anyways? it used to be just algorithim but i guess it doesn't seem fany enough anymore

Now would be the time to resurrect deepcreampy.
pre 2010 western porn games that aren't flash pretty much don't exist. Unless you're talking about ancient shit like that dos memory card game with pinups.

On a related note I found an old hard drive a few years back that had a bunch of games I used to waste hours on as a teenager and let me tell you they all suck, nostalgia is a hell of a drug stop trying to recover the ghost of dopamine hits past.

First time to get punished for fucking every girl in the game. Three days before the grand finale one of the guests shows up. She's pregnant and the game just ends. Yeah, my last save was from weeks ago. Now way I'll do that again. The last weeks are dull, the girls level up slowly and you go through the same dialogs countless times.

But the graphic style is nice and I had much more fun reversing their shitty internal image format (the IAF files in the CG folder) to see all the endings.

Three Sisters Story didn't live a lasting impression on me, forgot I even played it.
I really liked Season of the Sakura (lewds of the characters I liked from various anime!) and May Club though. A few others as well.
And who would forget some of the lewd Kisekai (KISS) paperdolls which got advanced far beyond dress up, to include actual lewd poses and animations.

Not really sure if actually pre-2010 or very early 2010s, but there is a decent amount of legitimately good RPGMaker games. Violated Heroine comes to mind as one of the older worthwhile ones.

I remember a series I used to play on one of those virus full websites like porngames or someshit where it was anime and the premise was
>You wake up
>Everything goes to hell immediately
>Some female MC curses and yells at you to do something or other
>Every decision takes you far away from your initial decision to the point where you'd spend the rest of your life mapping out the whole game if you tried
