Hello fellow /hhg/

I'm a open source developer who is mentally ill on storing porn.
I have been working on an all in one place for all thing archive related.
Few months ago I started to move the project into a public release and here I am.
ArcLock is a web server architecture with a web ui that works on both desktop and mobile.
So getting it setup on some linux box is all you need to get a central archival unit ready!

Features, Images and installation instructions
https://gitgud.io/archive-group/ArcLock

All code is public (well as long as you got a gitgud login, use tempmail if you have to)

I am still writing up the docs and hopefully will get to writing some kind of installation script.

Hope at least one person will find this of interest. If not then maybe in the future.

Write a fucking installation script.
Installation script added but considering that this is a full blown system, there are still some steps to take.
Mainly getting all them cookies from from other services. And installing docker+git on some linux server/pc you got.

More on https://gitgud.io/archive-group/arclock/-/blob/master/SETUP.md

Note: View Access was moved to Public from Internal so GitGud account is no longer needed.
Due to OP's familiarity with Linux environments, I've decided to ask here.

Does anyone have information on the best way to run h-games on Linux distributions?
I've tried using compatibility layers (Wine, Proton) or game launchers (Heroicgame, Lutris, Steam), but they're unable to run older h-games.
I've considered that perhaps the most viable option is to have a Windows virtual machine and use it solely for that purpose; however, I'd like to completely abandon the use of that OS.

Older games?
I play rpgm games all the time with lutris. Just gotta place the game files onto a copy of the rtp files(2k, VX ace etc) and remove the name of the rtp from the game.ini. Then it just works usually.
Never had any problems with renpy games at all.
Nor much issues with any of the godot games even if they're not Linux ported. If anything sometimes the linux ports are just bad, so I end up playing the windows version and they work swimmingly.
Gamemaker, WolfRPG, QSP and even SRPG worked. All I noticed is that some games require a wine prefix while others don't even need that.

I never had to fiddle with winetricks for any H games yet but if it's really that old I imagine
enabling dgvoodoo2 in that game's runner options on lutris would suffice.

Does your experience includes games with cracked ROMs?

I'm a little dumb and old, I've been fiddling in a old laptop where I installed mint to start getting use to it.
I've no much problem with general stuff but I ended up having problems running some H-games that are relatively new (Sinisistar). It launches but it freeze in the loading screen and crashes after.

SiNiSistar 2? I just tried it after reading this and it works fine here. I make a prefix out of habit now so maybe it's needed? I donno, right click on the game entry on Lutris and "Configure" then click the triple dot button on the right of the "Wine prefix" box.
Prefixes are just folders for emulating windows file structures for the game. Make a new folder and choose it.

>cracked ROMs
By that you mean console games I assume?
You can try RetroArch for those instead of using Lutris. I still play romhacks on my phone with RetroArch. It's also available in the Software Manager on Mint.

I'm a newbie at this too, been using Linux for like 3-4 months I think.
The real issue I realized with Linux is that whatever answer to a problem you maybe looking for probably has been asked and answered, but the search engines won't find that specific answer immediately since it's not as popular.

I’m a bit retarded, please help me & tell me where I’m screwing this up.

-I installed Lutris.
-Using Lutris, I created a “games” folder.
-I dumped the entire folder with the exe and all the extra Sinistar2 data in there.
-I launched the game (with lutris), got through the start menu, and then it freezes and crashes while loading.

At least with this method, I can get it to run up consistently until the freezing-and-crashing part.

You don't need to dump anything in there, it's just the default folder for Lutris to install things into. Direct Lutris to the game's exe and everything should be golden.

>I launched the game (with lutris), got through the start menu, and then it freezes and crashes while loading.
If it runs upto that point than either your files might be corrupted or your processor might be too weak. One drawback of having to use wine for anything is the excess processing power it uses to translate from windows files to linux. I say that however my own system is more than a decade old so I don't really know what to tell you, download a fresh copy of the newer version of the game and try again.

You may wanna open a new thread for general game related troubleshooting instead of high-jacking this one.

I appreciate your patience and help, and I apologize for derailing the thread (it wasn't my intention).
With what you've shared and confirmed, I'll start testing various things to see if I can make it work for me. Eventually, I plan to share my methods and results in a separate thread so it can be archived and help others.

Thank you.
