A thread for the cheesefest and sleazefest. Embrace the schlockness.

I think I will start. I remember one of the more memorable ones I have seen was the 1988 version of The Blob. I loved its use of practical effects, the creative ways in which the creature was used (one woman gets eaten from the inside and a man in a professional kitchen is literally pulled through the kitchen sink) and the overall feel/tone of the film.

I love the use of practical effects in older horror movies. Haven't seen either version of this though, the 1958 original sounds interesting (featuring Steve McQueen!). It was also released by Criterion.

Guy Pierce has been starring in some cheesefest lately but this poster is kinda nice.

Haha, the black gloved killer is a trope in giallo movies.
though in many cases, they turn out to be female

More like a killer about to strangle a woman. Get your mind out of the gutter.

I watched some of these quite a lot throughout 2019-2020 and I learned to hate them. The entire "genre" consists of untalented hacks who generate the most base entertainment possible. There are rare strokes of interesting images and good imagination, but beyond that it's a great way to become depressed and hate movies. The audience for these movies is horrible as well.

Are you the "cinema is shite" guy? Not judging you for that but if you're one of the serious film watchers these might not be for you. B-movies has a pretty wide scale of quality though, ranging from barely watchable (I can't sit through a film if it's too shitty either) to great genre fares (just not ambitious enough to become "A-movies").
You shouldn't force yourself to watch something you don't like and become depressed because of them, bro.
>The audience for these movies is horrible as well.
Care to elaborate?

>Are you the "cinema is shite" guy?
No. I like movies and my preferences aren't nearly as specific as his and I don't care for crime films.
>these might not be for you
I've watched hundreds of them and "learned to hate" them. I watch lots of different types of movies and for awhile I watched these. Most genre films in general, I dislike now (I used to love horror and westerns in particular).
>You shouldn't force yourself to watch something you don't like and become depressed because of them
I was never forcing myself to watch anything, I wanted to watch them at the time. The reason I eventually found them to be depressing was that such a large portion of them are so poorly made that it's nearly unbelievable, not to mention the laziness and even arrogance that sometimes goes into making some of this crap.
>Care to elaborate?
I wouldn't want to spend time with most people who are into b-movies. From CG, to irl conventions: there are a ton of reference points for you to gather what kind of people generally are into low-budget schlock. I have some personal biases with this as well, having known some people who enjoyed these.
It's all my opinion. I think there's value in watching genre movies, it's just not for me these days.

I'm curious, does this related to politics? There are people from all sides who enjoy this type of movies I think.
My experience from CG people is that I don't really understand their sense of humor. I would prefer a more serious crowd (but not pretentious) with knowledge about cinema and filmmaking. But CG kind of crowd can be fun at times because they don't take things seriously.

Do you mean humor on the forums? What specifically confuses you? The main users have thousands of posts. I don't find their smug interpersonal banter very funny. But torrent descriptions for bad movies can be entertaining.

I'm curious why you generalize CG that much, are you looking at the Boob thread?... I know you are! Jokes aside, I understand what you mean but I'm sure that if you look into serious films you'll find an informative discourse on CG. Maybe you're stuck on the sludge-fest (which in my opinion should be celebrated, even though I do agree "B-film audience" can even be used as a derogative, there's no place like CG. Same goes for KG, and both of their forums should never be forgotten, specially posts dating before 2010...)

I haven't seen that one, from the trailer it looks very interesting. I watched Let the Corpses Tan and I hate to say that I hated it. It started off promising, with the colorful setting (reminded me of Le Mepris) but the final act and the abrupt editing with the ticking clock really took me out of the film, and I was looking forward to it.

I saw Amer soon after it was released so my memory is fuzzy. It's divided into discrete segments -- basically individual short films tied together by a larger premise. I don't remember the ending as anything amazing, but the film is more about exploring suspenseful situations while reviving giallo style.

I definitely got that vibe from the trailer, the one I saw was strangely very low res and it showed ambiguous scenes shot in red and black so I can't really say anything until I properly watch it
