Figured it would be good for others, I've been scratching my brain for hours (unhealthy?) trying to remember where the he'll I saw this scene: A man wearing a hat steps outside to smoke a cigarette, when a phantasmagorical hand appears from thin air and seems to bother his psyche...
The weirdest thing about this is that it felt like a silent film, but the elements like the man and his hat felt very noir-ish... And this might be the years of substance abuse catching up to me but I even remember the scene being purple tinted and the floating hand yellow tinted... Or was it the other way round! Am I losing it!

Do you think it could be Greed? If you've seen it. I'm not near my pc right now to check...
I haven't seen Greed in a while, but why is there a huge hand on the poster? I don't remember the hand in the film itself. I do remember a huge tooth.

I've yet to see it in its entirety, it's kind of heavy on the psyche, I checked my files and I don't have many avant garde silent films saved, maybe I saw it in the Unseen Cinema boxset, otherwise I am going to lose my mind

Very interesting! I'll make sure to check it out, the man definitely fits my mental image of the hat and the cigarette.

It's so frustrating when the mind plays tricks. I do remember that the visual effects surprised me very much...

It happens sometimes, i remember watching a softcore movie among others when i was in high fever and years later i backtracked several channels' broadcast schedules to see what was it, because i didn't recall well what day it was but only the year i checked for months every night of said listings, i found 3 of the 4 movies except said softcore one despite finding tons of others i knew already.
Truth be told i downloaded every 90's and early 00's softcore flick i could remotely think of being said possible movie, 150+ items that for some reason never bothered to delete and nothing at all, i even remember the actors or people very similar to them at least, yet said movie doesn't appear in their filmographies and i even found some movies with a similar plots but not really; it seems my movie was a parody of a couple of softcore movies but made in a higher budget, which is an obscure thing even for that already-niche market.

The hilarious thing is that i thought about having dreamt it but i found the movies i saw before and after it so it can't be (it was a bizarre schedule to be completely fair).
The side-effect of this adventure is that now i am somewhat familiar with said niche scene despite rarely having seen some of these completely for plot-reasons only, more so than young people who did bad stuff while surfing late at night back in the day for years.

I watched 5 minutes of what seemed to be a British comedy with very dry humor from the early/mid 60s. A butler was leading guests upstairs to their room in a manor house or castle. I thought the dialogue was hilarious but I can't find the movie.

That's hilarious, I completely relate to your obsession, cable TV seems to be dead now that streaming is king, I sorely miss the days I could turn on the TV and find insane things I'd never seen before in the most unexpected places. I lived in Central America and they had a Colombian broadcast called Cinema+ (they might've changed format) that eventually showed me Battle Royal, Triplettes of Belleville, and a ton of other arthouse or independent films, most of which I can't trace back... They also had the raunchiest after midnight show that was hosted by some guy and semi-naked girl, advertising local models and their services but at the end they screened softcore porn, mostly American, but sometimes gems too. I was introduced to Tinto Brass when they screened him hosting.

One of the films that has haunted me for the longest is the most fever-dreamish film you could think of. I even wrote about it in this site three years ago, and still nothing... https://irememberthismovie.com/weird-low-budget-cyberdystopia-from-2000s/

Now that I have more experience with independent/experimental video, this cross I carry definitely feels like it was some sort of short film, maybe I haven't been able to find it because these type of shorts usually get bundled or released in groups when screened at festivals etc

>Cinema+ that eventually showed me Battle Royal, Triplettes of Belleville, and a ton of other arthouse or independent films
My case was the argentinian channel Europa Europa, same guys i think that also administered other stuff like Gourmet.com and i think early Infinito. Saw tons of good movies and mini-series there but also art house poison.
That one schedule was bonkers even for them, i remember it very well, it was Divorcing Jack (irish zany comedy about a bomb maker/defuser) pretty decent for what it was.
Then Woman is the Future of Man (slow burning perv south korean art shithousery with cuckold undertones) i didn't like it back then but made me discover another director to my list of possible money launderers/festival rats.
I got bored and changed channels, then i returned i guess or went to another place and saw that softcore flick at the middle but recognized some faces or so i thought (Monique Parent in nurse clothing, Sebastien Guy lookalike, a british/mid-atlantic narrator) one of the best, most entertaining softcore movies i've seen but that's not saying much, still such thing would make it more easy to find but it isn't. IIRC was about a dude who kept being confused or downright persecuted by some mafioso who wanted debt money and so this fella bangs his way into avoiding danger or finding old lady friends, some scene involve his pal banging Monique Parent (or some fiery redhead in nurse clothing) and the narrator making comments on his luck.
And then it was No Man's Land (french movie about illegal cross borders/smugglers) which i suppose was only broadcasted as an insomnia remedy because nothing happened in that thing other than some gril guard fingering one of the mystery-meat gril co-protagonists, said girl also banging some dude in a decent set condition and the ending with the protag with heavy PTSD stumbling around a farm and pretending to be a rooster to scare his roosters away to their fence line.
All 4 movies felt like a fever dream in one of the worst fevers i've had, but thing is i did found them except the softcore one.

>hosted by some guy and semi-naked girl, advertising local models and their services
That sounds like primetime entertainment for a teenager, back then some TV channels did pull crazy antics to win over viewers, especially low-budget competitors with lots of originality/lack of moral qualms.

>the days I could turn on the TV and find insane things I'd never seen before in the most unexpected places
Cable TV is somewhat dead but some channels, particularly the ones broadcast by university signals and/or education purposes, do show interesting stuff once in a while and especially late at night. Not long ago i saw some juvenile but highly interestingly edited jap series called Time Taxi, it uses tons of speech/idea bubbles or inner window close-up inside the scenes which is a staple of asian narrative jokes in the 90's and early 00's although said series is relatively newer. I thought it was a well-known series but after reading about it i guess it is obscure even for them, who knows what kind of freaks are in that school to pull such media out of their ass but i thank them, it wasn't propagandistic nor subversive and nourished my mind.

>softcore porn, mostly American,
Did you know a good chunk of the softcore comedies screened in most channels were made by the same 3 or 4 dudes?
John Quinn, Ed Holzmann and i forgot the other one. They made 25+ skin flix and most of them can be recognized by people aged 25-40 who had cable; the art direction, lightning and camera work in most of those movies was also very specific, you know someone is going to get banged by seeing the camera position, art direction on set and conditions of natural & artificial light alone even if a character is fully clothed and eating cereal in the morning on a seemingly normal kitchen.

>Tinto Brass
Been stalling on him a lot, one day, one day...

>>2423
>the protagonist sitting in a cafe (a CGI simulation cafe) with a suitcase in the table with him, he’s nervously waiting for someone because that was the instruction given to him.
Goddamn, it sounds pretty familiar but my memory has it being a cool-toned grainy look with objects here and there having these saturated bright primary colors, like a phone booth in bright yellow or a table in deep red. Very 90's, maybe i am confusing it with a spaniard romance comedy i remember seeing a lot back then, had a scene with some dude waiting on a table for his lawyer i think with a grid around the place that made everything look CGI, kinda like an advanced form of the ReBoot kid series early forms.

>these type of shorts usually get bundled or released in groups
If you don't recall where were you sitting or which channel it was then might as well been a dream, that kind of content very rarely gets broadcast again. To boot you are in actual Euro land where that kind of thing seems to be more normal in certain channels while in this continent such content was an oddity and many remember them as events, i recall some movie schedules being hyped a week before in school, i am still from the era where we would talk about waiting to see that one movie on Saturday, we didn't even attempt to go out and play just to wait for certain movies. I recall several cases with Cartoon Network as they seldomly showed anime movies back in the very early Toonami days or a bit prior to it.

I appreciate the fact that you took the time to reply. I think there is definitely something to be said about the death of TV... Looking between 1990 and 2010, starting with shows (At least in America) like MonsterVision. I currently live in Italy and I know of two public TV broadcasts that are still running, both from the late eighties. Fuori Orario, Things (Never) Seen, which uses Jean Vigo's L'Atalante underwater sequence as the intro, focusing on bringing left-field and independent shorts and films out of obscurity, I actually still have to track down one broadcast were they showed restored 8mm and 16mm amateur footage (I think it was the night of August 9th, 2020 https://www.televideoteca.it/fuori-orario-cose-mai-viste/9-agosto-2020-603304 Sadly, it seems to be offline and I haven't gotten a reply from the various editors of the show. If you're interested I suggest you use a translate feature on the Italian wikipedia page of the show since they have more info there). The other is called Blob, which is much more dynamic in that it further mixes newsreels and films in a chaotic fashion, overlooking dates and styles in exchange for a stream of consciousness type of edit.
You can see full Blob episodes on RaiPlay, but it looks like the folks running Fuori Orari only link the actual films and shorts they present.
Going back to Cinema+, since you're familiar with Argentinian broadcasts, you can arrange C+'s YTube videos to show the earliest ones and you'll get a glimpse of what it was like back then. This is probably the best example, a reel of their upcoming screenings. I haven't heard of any of the films they highlight here but 'Buddha Collapsed Out of Shame' looks great https://www.youtube .com/watch?v=CC3ftqn9fpo

>I recall several cases with Cartoon Network, very early Toonami days
That reminds me, I've been dying to find some special 1 minute segments Discovery Channel used to show back in 2010, they were formatted in a sort of vignette, much like Cartoon Network's 'City Bumpers' from way back in 2005.
I only remember two of them perfectly, I haven't been able to find them because they lacked any kind of traceable text, the first one showed a group of very young cafe-racer enthusiasts in India with their garage. Great footage of them doing the 'Superman' pose (pic related) while riding their bikes as fast as they could on an empty highway in the middle of nowhere, no helmets in sight.
The other vignette was of a Turkish 'kirkpinar' fighter, they showed him covering himself in oil, lit by an overhead yellow lamp against a black background so that you would focus on his physique, he would then start fighting in the same set. They stuck with me because of the way they were shot, and the fact that they would highlight the person by making them narrate the vignette and their story themselves. I think they were subtitled because I remember hearing their foreign voices... Wish me luck not going insane trying to find those!

>Fuori Orario, Things (Never) Seen
I recall you mentioning that i think, along with the music video special that you got angry because they started chopping and summarizing them rather than keeping them integral. Italy definitely is more avant garde regarding broadcast than around here, we mostly use shock value or very local productions for the appeal because in terms of budget and connections there's little they can do to compete against more established international channels.
>mixes newsreels and films in a chaotic fashion, overlooking dates and styles in exchange for a stream of consciousness type of edit
For example this is highly interesting but around here it would be only seen in paid channels and late at night if someone attempted to do it. The only thing i remember similar to that is a once-a-week late nite section of purely experimental animated shorts in a very niche but still remembered animation channel called Locomotion, it had a deranged rumored backstory (otaku networking and informal as daring negotiations with authorities along with negotiators later even rumored to be laundering for government officials) as interesting as its schedules which were both obscure and high-profile anime along with raunchy western productions, all oriented to zany teenagers and adults.

That type of uniqueness and probably also eye/visual saturation is what seems to be missing nowadays, for example in vids related we can see one of the monolithic art directions they sometimes took, in this case its last one; tons of unique bumpers too because few dared to advertise their brands on it as you might imagine and it didn't help it was also usually included in the very last/most expensive package in TV providers, very few saw it although i could because back in the day it was easier to pirate/decodify channels via cheap hardware and my parents hated with passion the TV men from a certain company so i got to fully enjoy it although for little time. Also the only channel i've known that openly, repetitively broadcasted softcore hentai, they were that mad
>Castle of Cagliostro
Now that's what i am talking about, i remember waiting for that one back in the day along with Gundam Wing's OVA ending and a Dragon Ball Z movie, i guess the first one with Broly.

>I've been dying to find some special 1 minute segments Discovery Channel used to show back in 2010
That sounds damn good, i didn't really watch Time Warner stuff after 2005 or '06 but the original Discovery i recall was one of the last to fall into the staged reality tv format, at least around here. The paid versions i am not sure but Health already got that kind of programming back in the mid-00's, Travel & Adventure still had some cool shows like Backpackers reruns (the 90's one) up to that 00's era too although i wouldn't consider that kind of stuff reality, at least not our continental talking head version of it.

>Wish me luck not going insane trying to find those!
Despite being meme lords and recently invaded by the neverending tranny menace... i somewhat dislike to mention it but the Lost Media freaks in some communities do have a keen eye on achieving that kind of stuff or at least searching for it, i recall they were searching (and found) some of those Cartoon Network City Bumpers you mention, and i think they also sought some other bumpers for other kids channels. Juvenile as one would think but at least their techniques might prove useful if you become desperate in your journey and attempt to ask them (if i see them somewhere i will report back, they are specific enough to remember). These bumpers and videos you see from Loco were achieved in the late 00's by some hero, in a rare instance of lucidity i bulk downloaded them all because i was/am very fond of watching it alone in my room for days and days.
It's that special something too that is missing, nowadays you can replay tons of media but back then you blinked and you missed it, especially with such saturated style of animation and bumpers, there was details every time one saw it again; i don't think the style falls into the maximalism tag but it sure gets close to it; tons of different styles too back then, shiny chrome pointy cool-toned (subdued/early metalheart) grunge pop art with saturated moody colours (MTV style) or these Lego-tier examples which are mock isometric in a combination with urban symbology, one could point which channel you were standing it quickly and rewatchability was somewhat good.

Fuck forgot to mention, Buddha Collapsed Out of Shame does indeed look like a very attractive watch.
I've heard of Pizza, Birra y Faso a lot but never saw it, thought it was more of a drama than a coming-of-age story.
>familiar with Argentinian broadcasts
They were usually low-quality video but made up for pretty comprehensive schedules and highly-above average/rare content, their problem were selling their signals and images to Miami-based latin jews who usually perverted their origins, take for example the famous Infinito who went from 90's taboo paranormal low-budget reporting with some fraudsters here and there, focused on the paranoid or open minded, into 00's new age reality tv focused on old incense-burning ladies with naked kamasutra shows at late hours to grab the horny nite-surfer community. That's one example, the other was Loco (kinda cheating because not argies but supported technically by some from there) who got sold and became Animax, got sanitized a lot and delved into much more juvenile/clean works rather than the obscure, extremely niche and/or violent anime or western stuff like The Head, The Maxx or Duckman who never saw the lights out of the TV after the signal went off. 2004 and a little later (2005-06) was the last days of peak TV.

You also now reminded me of Reality TV, an actual channel about reality stuff but nothing with talking head or contest & judges stuff, it was mostly CCTV and achieved newscast tapes formatted into thematic shows or documentaries with the exceptions here and there about scandal shows, mainly Cheaters. Back then it scandalized a few because they showed actual deaths on tape like the suicide on the highway video or actual sex like the rowdy low-quality CCTV sex tapes with penors and vagoos included, they repeated the same stuff often so i don't remember watching it that much.
They did have an interesting Euro show named in translated form The Villa (can be traduced as The Manor too) about a paradisiac villa in front of the beach, every while or so the brits (i think) would grab a bunch of single young adults from all over albion and throw them in the place with tons of booze and food with cameras rolling for a weekend to see what would happen, ironically they rarely partied hard because they were too nervous in front of the crew and i still remember one time they almost went to punches after a girl refused to dance with a dude because he was black, he chimped out and hilarity ensued. This was presented in resumed form in a 40-minute format, every episode was a different weekend with different people. Degenerate but funny because they still were, back then, somewhat reserved, nowadays this wouldn't work as expected because they would go at it hard even with cameras included so no generalized social awkwardness.

It's gonna take me a while to read everything but Reality TV was definitely one of my favorites back in the day. Their best show was called Policias en Accion, a COPS styled show but much better since they showed poor Argentinian neighborhoods full of crazy, drugged up, cooky characters stylized with gritty comic book transitions. The first seasons are the best, since they didn't have filters and I suspect after a few years they started running by the script or making up stories just to fill the air time. You could even argue they had a script, at least for portions of the show, back in the first seasons but regardless they're much more entertaining.

Yeah, didn't meant the CN bumbers as your search but as an example of their searches, which sometimes include even the bumpers.
Those LM guys started strong but as everything they succumbed into identity drama (for some reason) but a couple of founders still seem to search and look into stuff so you might get something.
>most creative segments were done by that particular bubble of freedom they had before every company started merging/corporatizing
Many such cases, "getting in line" with the parent company/streamlining usually always destroys the independent or isolated production teams who used outside thinking to compete with big budget foes.

That music video one was Techetechete, I've looked through every torrent tracker including Italian ones and no one seems to be saving these. I managed to rip about 20-30 episodes from 2021. The only downside is that, like you remembered, I think they realized they were releasing way too much so they doubled down on censoring them with cuts and bigger watermarks. Some of the pre-2019 episodes had amazing footage, most of it I haven't even been able to trace back to a source, like this one of George McCrae singing next to Gianni Morandi, Morandi was at the height of his popularity in Italy while being extremely young, and somehow managed to sell out Madison Square Garden that same year, which is the tour from which the footage comes from. I really hope to find some kind of documentary they made there but, so far, nothing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5J0Cz1xoWxM

Britain pushed really hard for CCTV back in the 90's, it was a fad topic and very often mentioned in London areas because out of nowhere every street had them, it was the telltale sign for London residents that it was not the old city anymore but a metropolitan beast. Why would you come here of all places to request it? . . . You lazy genius, you probably knew I would look it up. Lucky you, I had seen an insane cooking video and I'm pretty sure it's the same grey cat... And if it isn't, at least you got a place to start. These are Douyin based videos, the girl is xxd220, you can probably find other batshit CGI videos following these clues. These usually get lost in the grey sea of reposts but I'm pretty sure xxd220 is a good lead, can't even find much on YT

I don't know if it's true but I heard tiktok is a tool of Chinese subversion because it promotes positive behavior domestically (accomplishments requiring intelligence like the short video above) while in other countries tiktok promotes stupid behavior (twerking)

There was a Japanese horror movie called "Note to Sir" or something along those lines I saw 10 years ago but research has granted nothing.

what era is it from? what were the plot/themes?

I'm not sure when it came out, but I watched it in or near 2006. I can scarcely recall the plot, but I recall a very distraught woman who committed suicide and there was a curse involved I think.

I saw what I belive to be a children's tv movie made in the 90s or early 2000s.
Several kids or adults where hung in good-filled sacks off a tree, and a group of children teenagers banded together to bring the fight to the perpetrators who's leader was an evil ventriloquist dummy. They fought them with flashlights.
It should be an episode of the goosebumps franchise but I can't figure out what it is!

Night of the Living Dummy?

Ok, the only part that matches is the flashlight scene and it's in Revenge of the Lawn Gnomes, but that might not be what you're looking for.

Scene from a movie, where I think it was either Will Smith or another black actor that looked a lot like him, playing a cop in Alaska. There's a scene where he goes in a diner and steals some dude's sandwich and eats it in front of him and mentions how there's bleu cheese in it. That's all I can remember from it.

I think this was a British movie. It opened up with some kids entering a sewer lid or some sort of bunker into a mound and the ones going into it were getting hazed or some shit. This is all very vague and I barely remember what this was about or if it was even British. If anything like this is remotely familiar help me out. The director might've been arthouse and celebrated at the time.

More details, it was a handful of both kids and teenagers.

Yes.

I have similar desire to watch an old Tarzan documentary making of - it showed the actor talking about how he was to wrestle an adolescent tiger but the cat was a chill with him so he ended up pulling on his ears/whiskers to provoke it and then he said he only managed to get enough for the take because the tiger interpreted him as playing a game for a while & that he got marked up everywhere

It's not what you are looking for but Paperhouse can be described as thematically similar and the quality is there. It's about a kid who gets sick, and then they start to fever-communicate with one another. Don't try to spoil/read into the ending for it, because the director hasn't said what he wanted an audience to think of it

A YouTube short I watched years ago of a man who's planning his suicide with noose ready and all, and decides to play his piano before doing so in which a crowd of people gradually begin to follow him and make merry.

Posted about this in the previous open thread on Anon Cafe. I am looking for a monster movie from the fifties or sixties called Cicada Men on the Moon starring an actress called Anna Dio. I've been able to find no information online, the only reason I know it exists is some guy's blog from 2011 where I got the pic (https://johnrozum.blogspot.com/2011/10/31-days-of-halloween-day-25.html) and the pic itself which isn't very informative on its own.

I'm starting to wonder if the movie even exists in the first place and the pic isn't from somewhere else and misattributed to a nonexistent source.
