Hello anons, what were your top flicks of the year 2022?
Replies: >>2879 >>3152
from top to bottom, left to right:
Mariupolis 2 2022 | Gregory Markopoulos’s Temenos 2022 | Super Natural 2022
Safe Place 2022 | ? | EO 2022
Herbaria 2022 | See You Friday, Robinson 2022 | The Fabric of the Human Body 2022
The Eclipse 2022 | ? | After Blue 2021
Alessandro nell’Indie by Max Emanuel Cencic 2022 (opera broadcast) | Mutzenbacher 2022 | A Date in Minsk 2022
I Have not been Afraid of Going Blind for a Long Time 2021 | Under the Sky Shelter 2021 | The Kegelstatt Trio 2022
Will-o'-the-Wisp 2022 | The United States of America 2022 | Mon chéri Soviétique 2021

How many film festivals do you go to? the sheer scope of what you watch is insane.

Since you're including 2021 movies I'd say one of my favorites was Spine of the Night, probably just for the visuals. EO... not a fan. What'd you like about EO so much?

>Mariupolis 2

I watched the first one this year which resembled a Sensory Ethnographic project, though it lacked memorable moments. Many fleeting glimpses of the people of Mariupolis did not amount to enough substance.

sure, if you want to find them and post them I can start compiling the titles. I didn't know they went that far back. I first found /film/ maybe in 2016 but never remembered those charts. I was too busy catching up on older films.
>>2793
I only go to a few festivals in my country and something abroad every now and then. I also use the release dates over here rather than what's listed on imdb.
Spine of the night was pretty meh and could have easily been twenty times as wild and trippy thanks to it being animated. Instead it was just uninspired and with a really stupid story. IO on the other hand was extremely based and veganpilled.
Also, the Markopoulos film is called Eniaios, Temenos is the name of the event in Greece where they show parts of it.
>>2796
They go back to 2012, I think I have them saved somewhere but tomorrow I'm going on a NYE trip with my boyfriend and don't have the time to look. I had the first Mariupolis on my list in the year that it came out too, showing the lives of people on the frontline of russian occupation was enough of 'substance' for me.

Spine of the Night's lack of "wild and trippy" extremes is likely due to budgetary and manpower limitations. I guess you could demand that they spend ten years on it, but I thought that it was decent for what it was aiming for. If it's keeping practical art forms alive in the era of digitization, I immediately have a bias towards it. This is the main reason that I liked Hatching so much.
EO had a very dumb story and its only redeeming factor was a cute donkey.

Watched Otto Montagne on the big screen last night, amazing cinematography and the scenes flowed and unfolded in an incredibly naturalistic way. The soundtrack pulled me out a bit but only because I excepted an Italian score, that being said it fits perfectly. Though some might find the story lacking as it's over two hours. 10/10 for the big screen

That looks interesting. I've never seen an Italian mountain movie. Given the subject matter I'm surprised it was shot in 4:3 aspect ratio.

The Beasts (As bestas) is a very good thriller and my fav 2022 film. It's based in a real case, you know how it's going to finish but it's still very good executed. You can feel the tension building up in the first 90 minutes. At the end, there is also a very good scene between the mother and her daughter.
On the edge (Entre la vie et la mort) is a more classical neo-noir thriller but a very enjoyable one. It doesn't surprise you at any moment though, but the main character Antonio de la Torre is an excellent actor.
Zero fucks given, if you want to see a lonely and lost girl don't giving a fuck about anything, only to live the present moment, you are going to love this one. Adèle Exarchopoulos <3
The Night of the 12th, it's about a not solved case and it shows how it affects the police officers and how they deal with their personal life. The director made a huge mistake, when he wants to show you something instead of just doing it, even though it's evident, he makes someone saying it out loud or repeats the same scene two times. It feels like you are watching a marvel movie targeted to retards and 13 years old. This makes the movie a bit annoying but I think it's still a good one, I don't know other movies with this plot.
>>2809
Try to catch it on the big screen, hell, if its not possible bring it over yourself!
2020 r1c1 is Sanctorum
2022 r2c2 is Homes
2018 r1 c3 might be "Let the summer never come again" but I'm not sure I haven't seen the film.
