So if yellow used to represent gold, was the yellow spaceman meant to actually be a gold spaceman?

Yellow also represents skin, bu it doesn't mean that yellow spaceman was naked. It was just yellow (or the color you wanted to imagine)

I'm kind of curious now. I wonder if something like a dental or sculpting pick and a little WD-40 could push it out of there. Unless the wedgies are pushed all the way up against the brick, you could probably fit the hook in and push it up.

>Splitting this fan vote into two parts, you will have three votes in the first vote. You can vote a maximum of once for a theme in the first vote
>The second vote will be the top three themes from the first vote. One of the three themes will be the theme the 90th Anniversary Set will be based on
>We will run this fan vote of all 30 themes from today the 17th of January 2021, to the 25th of January 2021. Then on February 3rd 2021, we will launch a second fan vote of the top three themes from this fan vote which will run until February 10th 2021

Yet more tripe to placate AFOLs by pandering to nostalgia and I'm surprised everyone is falling for this shit. Throw in some nostalgia bait and they all come crawling back, not to mention this time it isn't a toy but rather a Sophisticated Interlocking Brick Model™ from the "Adult Portfolio" to make insecure manchildren feel better about buying child's toys. They haven't and won't reveal it officially until 3rd February when the second poll starts, but supposedly it's Bionicle, Classic Space, and Pirates.
https://www.brickfanatics.com/it-looks-like-bionicle-has-won-the-lego-ideas-90th-anniversary-fan-vote/
>BIONICLE has racked up 18,743 votes
>Classic Space lags some way behind in second place, with 13,558 votes in total, while Pirates sits in third on 11,461 votes.
>If you combine all the votes for Castle’s various subthemes, which were fragmented across the 30-strong list, it actually comes out on top at 24,949 votes.
>In that scenario, Space would be in second place with 24,563 votes, while BIONICLE’s 18,743 nominations would keep it in the running in third place.

Classic Space doesn't deserve to be there and neither does Pirates if I'm being honest. Classic Space is incredibly boring design wise - literally just plain grey spaceships with a blue streak and a handful of recoloured spacemen. Not to mention Classic Space fans are so easily placated - remember them losing their minds over Benny's Space Squad or the orange spaceman? Pirates would be a good choice if it weren't for the fact Lego has released an updated version of the theme twice now and piratefags got their holy grail last year with Barracuda Bay.

Bionicle is a shit choice because Lego is releasing a single set and Bionicle sets comprise of single character. So either Lego are going to release a massive multipack of characters (highly unlikely) or it's going to be something with system integrated in, like those minifg-scale playsets or the failed Ideas diorama. Even if Bionicle gets actual figures, the chances of them getting pure Technic builds and not cheap CCBS garbage is even lower. Also I find it amusing that the only chance Bionicle has for something to commemorate it's 20th anniversary is a (presumably) shitty set that's designed to mark Lego's 90th anniversary instead. I guess if they're lucky they might get an anniversary tweet from a Lego designer, those poor biofags.

I'm fine with Bionicle there but I can see why others are upset, especially how Castle and Space got split up into loads of different subthemes while Bionicle remained whole and gave it a big advantage compared to the other options.

>>928
I didn't vote but I would've gone with Adventurers, Alpha Team, Time Cruisers. Because if any of those choices would've won the sets would've most likely been a big temple/pyramid, evil villain secret base, or a set that has a little bit of everything for everyone.

I haven't voted in the 2nd vote either but if I did it would be Castle.

>Castle and Space got split up into loads of different subthemes while Bionicle remained whole and gave it a big advantage compared to the other options.
Because Bionicle remained as one continuous theme and story that lasted an entire decade while themes like Castle and Space were sold as "burner" themes that lasted a few years each, separately, under many different names with little to no continuity to one another.

Looking through a list of all the chrome gold pieces and they're not coming up - https://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?catType=P&colorPart=21 . My guess is that they're genuine pieces that have been chromed. I think there used to be a Bricklink seller that sold genuine Lego he'd chromed himself but I can't find him. Maybe he had to close up shop after Lego bought Bricklink.

You are correct; Lego forcibly shut down several Bricklink stores that were operating outside of their new rules, including the ones that offered custom chromed pieces.

Why doesn't Lego itself make properly chromed/gilded blocks anymore. I remember as a kid that the gold coins that came with the Classic Pirates sets were as shiny as real metal, but the, ostensibly, gold pieces from modern sets are a sort of a matte finish faux gold. What happened?

Lego buying Bricklink was the worst thing to happen. I don't buy custom pieces but a company buying the biggest chunk of their secondary market is indefensible.

>>966
I think chroming pieces is costly and supposedly bad for the environment, not to mention the chrome eventually flakes off with wear, so I can see why they'd change it to something else. But holy shit is pearl gold so awful, the colour is so unbelievably inconsistent and doesn't look half as good as chrome gold. Pearl gold looks and feels so cheap, like something from a bootlego set.

A, B, D and E are all pearl gold.

That pearl gold reminds me of that plactic that use to cause certain runs of certain Transformers toys to disintegrate after 10 years.

The chemical by-products of chroming stuff are hazardous but I don't know how Lego chromes their pieces. They may use a different, non-toxic method because they are toys intended for children though, but I guess Lego will never reveal it.

Lego wanted to take on Chinese clones (namely Lepin) but Chinese courts will always stick up for their own companies and interests. So how does Lego deal with this? They promise investment in China if the Chinese courts deal with the knockoffs.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's been underhand deals behind closed doors in order for Lego to really get Lepin shut down. Again,
>inb4 stop being paranoid this is just a children's toy company
No, it's business. Businesses have been lobbying goverments since forever and closed door deals aren't anything new. The product the company sells is irrelevant; making profits is the only concern of businessmen and politicians.

An unused idea for road plates created back in the late 1960s/early 1970s. It's been released as a teaser for the upcoming Secret Life of Lego Bricks book which promises a wealth of never-seen-before stuff as well as plenty of behind the scenes on the company. Sounds really interesting, but the book will cost £50/$75 and you have to purchase it through a kickstarter-type website so it won't see a general release after and the amount of copies printed is limited to the amount of pre-orders.

On a side note, one of the pre-order pledges gave you a rare prototype element, limited to 500 copies.
>The LEGO Group is offering for the first time ever, a brand-new, specially 3D printed prototype element on which you can give your personal feedback. It comes with its own AFOL-themed minifigure.
>the element is yet to be finalized so it will be a surprise when you receive it, but we can tell you that this isn't something you will have seen before. The element will present a new integrated function as a part of our exploration of new design and play functions.

RIP.

On an unrelated note, VIDIYO could've been perfect if they just added an Incredibox-like app that integrates with VIDIYO. Let kids use pre-recorded samples to create their own songs, instead of the garbage selection they've got going on now.

I mean the designs aren't stupid, there's clearly some thought behind this whole app integration which becomes visible with the stage sets but also with the special protective 'beatboxes' to protect the minifigures and tiles while kids are traveling. (Of course, COVID fucked this up for wave 1...) But the music selection is AWFUL. Small library, some of the worst songs ever on there. (Surprisingly no Nickelback, guess LEGO's trying to protect children from trauma.)

Red, blue, and yellow were probably based off the Star Trek uniform colours.

The first two colors of astronauts were red and white, which could either have been chosen because they're the colors of the flag of Demark.

>We’ve seen a positive response to the launch, but we’ve also received feedback from people that we could make the play experience across the app, BeatBits, music and minifigures even simpler. So, we’re taking that onboard and together with Universal Music Group are going to pilot some new ideas in 2022, then release new play experiences in 2023 and beyond.

Sounds like marketing-speak for "unreliable promises of mobile games that may become vaporware".

You're going to have to explain your line of thought there. 'Piloting new ideas and releasing new play experiences' could be anything from app revamps to a cartoon.

That's more of a chance than Nexo Knights and Hidden Side got, those just had their waves cut off without much noise.

Reading between the lines makes it sound like "We're not doing anything else with this new property for the rest of this year, which is the time when you would MOST expect us to push this new product, but we're definitely going to do 'something' with it next year, or at least two years from now (or maybe longer)."

Sounds like they're going to back-burner it and then quietly reassign everyone in the department after all the merch has worked its way out of public view and people have forgotten about it.

Wave 2 bandmates are to be released in October, by the way. After that they can keep the app users (Yes, kids use it. I think it's because of social media addiction) occupied with updates and 'new' songs until they actually have something new to release.

But that's just my optimism talking, if anything I'm already satisfied with the unique minifigures and the fact there's been ZERO stickers in the entire theme.

I was mostly talking about wave 3, since wave 2 stuff already started showing up in the wild. I really love all the 2x2 tiles.

I got a Lego rabbit (it's been sitting in the store for a year) last week and I put it together last night.
It turned out pretty neat. Nice articulation from a non Technic piece.

The little flower that was part of the bunny set made me get interested in the Lego flowers sets. They look pretty neat.

I'm really impressed with the articulation on this rabbit. It's actually poseable.
