This theme doesn't seem to have as much praise or scorn as others of its time. And the make-over they got in 2004 doesn't help.
So what does anon think of Alpha Team, rightfully forgettable or unrealized potential that would have gotten to Ninjago levels?
Did you like the Team better, or Ogel and his drones?
I think they should have had more bad guy sets in the first year. Like a drone tank or barricade. Maybe having the soldier/guard drones there and making the one's in Ogel's base workers. The games had neat variations that would've look good as minifigs.
Afterall the materials hype up Ogel having an army but the lonely two feel underwhelmed by the 7 agents. Deep Sea did it right but the underwater setting feels quite restrictive.

Alpha Team came out during the time when Lego was putting out some of the ugliest minifigures (Cam, Radia, and Flex are fuck-ugly) and still heavily juniorising sets so that's probably why it's so forgotten by the majority. Wave 1 was solid (I own 6773 Alpha Team Helicopter and it's an amazing set) and wave 2 was ok, but the complete overhaul in wave 3 is what killed the theme for me. The redesigns were frankly awful and the sets were even more juniorised and ugly than before.
>unrealized potential that would have gotten to Ninjago levels?
The behind-the-scenes conflict between Lego and Digital Domain stopped any potential for the theme. Alpha Team as we know it was created 6 months before the release of the game because Lego didn't like what Digital Domain were doing so the whole development of the theme was rushed. Even Ninjago ditched Garmadon after the first wave but there's only so many times you can redesign Ogel and his minions before it starts to get stale.
>Did you like the Team better, or Ogel and his drones?
Ogel all the way!

Yeah that was another problem with Alpha Team. What's the point of having good guys if there's no bad guys to fight?

I guess this is why every Lego set after has to have both Good and Bad Guys. Apparently appeals to the "momma will only buy a single toy" crowd.

--BUT CAM'S CUTE-- I think they all look very good yet a little weird compared to minifigs that came before and after, though some Deep Sea faces were awkward. The effect on those legs is pretty off too.
Also there aren't much mocs as the bulk apparently was in Lego's site. I could rescue this thumbnail.

Ok, my opinion of her has changed now that I realise she's meant to be a cute nerdy chick and roughly based on Janeane Garofalo.

I archived this not too long ago - no idea if it's any interest to you. It's the official combiner model instructions for 4743 and 4744.

Charge was based on Wesley Snipes
Radia was based on one of the designer's ex-gfs that was a raver
Crunch's personality was based on Ernest Borgnine
Dash was based on the dev team's boss
Flex is thought to be based on the lead animator but it has never been confirmed

So what's the deal with the drones?, are they dead? their whole body became skeletons or just the head? Do they need special suits?

They're brainwashed civilians, though it's not clear if they have skull masks or skeletons. Personally I've always thought they were skull masks. Pic related was part of the instructions comic in 6776 but it was pulled, most likely due to 9/11, so we never got to see more about the drones.

I think that masks makes a lot of sense.

It's funny how they went from fabric uniforms with medals to sci-fi jumpsuits with printed designs. Reminds me of how Shocker combatmen in Kamen Rider went from looking like fashionable terrorists like IRA or ETA to their better known look.

If I took the mask off, would it be painful?

Looking at that part with the drones dressed like outlaws, I think that they were meant to have a hat for each setting. Likely that was the Western level, wonder what other themes there might have been.

You should check this out anon https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/85196-very-surreal-alpha-team-prototype/ . According to the designers the levels would take place in different areas of a human sized house:
 >Mt Fridgy was a “snow and ice” freezer environment that included a lot of frozen foods: pizza boxes as platforms, ice cream tubs, things like that. The Boss was “Ol’ Blue Ice” and the Neanderthaws were frozen in blocks of ice. If you defrosted one, he’d starting walking in a forward line, swinging his club.
>The Roller Toaster was a roller-coaster “hot lava” environment. Roller coaster cars that looked like slices of bread would ride the rails and get toasted by hot pools of lava. The boss was King Crusty.
>Poodle Dreamland took place inside a dog pool. It was shades of pink and lavender, with topiary trees, and giant doggy bones. The boss was a killer poodle named Flea-Flea.
>Aromazona was a world of giant flowers, inside a flower pot.

>while digging through the Alpha Team video game files, I found asset lists and files and other evidence that the game was intended to have two more zones than the final game. Details can be found here (along with more things posted later in this topic), but in short, Alpha Team at one point had Mountain and Moon (Space) zones, in addition to the four zones in the final game (Tropical Island, Subterranean, Undersea, and Arctic - all but Subterranean were turned into real LEGO sub-themes). I also found object listings for a "Cyberia" zone, and a "Neandert" listing under the section for enemies (more on that later)

Now the dev didn't recall any cyber sounding zone, but my guess is that is has to do with the part in the video with the mechanic and the insectoid turrets.
This might be off-topic, but how exactly can you datamine the LEGO Alpha Team Game (extract sound files, etc)?

Been trying to figure out how but the only possible way of doing it is enterily updated and doesn't function correctly
