This is a board for Mecha, Androids and Tokusatsu.
This means you can discuss about video games, anime and manga relating to mechs and androids such as Gundam and Ghost in the Shell or live action stuff like Tokusatsu Superheroes and Kaiju flicks such as Kamen Rider and Godzilla.
Before you start posting, read these rules.

• 1. Follow the Global Rules, Use the report function for illegal content.

• 2. Attention whoring posts may be deleted; this includes unnecessary namefagging and overuse of blogposting and avatarfagging.

• 3. Check the catalog before making a thread, so the board won't get clogged up with duplicates.

• 4. Spoiler NSFW content.

Follow the rules, be at ease and nobody will have any problems.

This is just doing what he thinks his audience wants to see, which isn't inherently a bad thing. Too bad Star Wars got ruined by woke shit, otherwise I'd probably be doing the same thing. That was my jam. And some of it is because it's a huge franchise with tons and tons of material to draw from; there's not just the movies, but video games, comics and novels. Comic books on the other hand I was never that big on, but I did watch the old DCAU and the 90s X-Men cartoon, and the first few big Marvel movies before they became oversaturated slop. Even normies have superhero fatigue at this point.

Like I mentioned my idea of doing the E-Web tripod laser earlier, and that would not only be useful for a practical purpose (taking out drones), it would garner a large audience because of the franchise it comes from. But there are things from other sci-fi and fantasy universes that would be just as good, and not just weapons or mecha/vehicles. But since they don't have the name recognition of the big franchises, nobody builds them. I'd like to see somebody make the scramble suit from A Scanner Darkly, but that isn't as well-known (despite the fact that Keanu Reeves and Robert Downey Jr. were in it). But globohomo would seethe super hard if a big YouTube creator did that because it would interfere with their shi

The problem is that his designs are reference first, practicality second. Like you said, he's doing it for the reddit audience. I can see why he's depressed, imagine studying engineering, a very hard degree to pursue, and using it to make whatever was seen in Iron Man 4: The Search for More Money.

For example, your E-Web blaster is a practical design, and has a reason why it's connected to Star Wars. I make sci-fi inspired inventions all the time. But practicality is forefront in our endeavors. This is why the Hacksmith seethes when he sees Mechnomancer, because he makes mechs however he wants.

We also don't dropship Chinese torches and call them our own.

Unfortunately I don't actually have the skills to make an E-Web. Even trying to figure out the holowaifu I actually do want to make is proving to be more difficult than I anticipated. I figured I'd be able to just vibe it because AI, lol.

I think it's at least possible for drones with a CO2 laser and computer tracking.

What are your favourite mecha pilot controls? Your least favourite? There's been a lot of variety over the decades, and it's always fun to see what mecha designers come up with.
On my end, it's gotta be the Escaflowne's setup. I've always been partial to anything that approximates pilot motion capture, and Escaflowne's controls are a sick, more visibly mechanical way of doing that than G Gundam strapping the pilot into a mocap suit.

For a slightly different take on the concept of the thread, what are some decent series that actually spends some time being about the pilot actually learning to control the damn thing?

I'm 14 episodes in to Danguard Ace, and I cannot recall a single other show I have watched where the pilot of the mecha has ever had to go through so much shit before he's even able to pilot the titular mech, and pilot it properly. In fact, you don't even see the thing properly transform until episode 11, and that was on accident. Every other series I can recall just skips over the training to where the pilot is already experienced, or just has the pilot "instantly" capable of controlling a giant robot.

Excellent question! I wish I knew more, but if others can be found it would be well worth investigating them. Who was the writer for Danguard Ace that likely contributed this important arc, do you know? Thanks Anon.

>Who was the writer for Danguard Ace that likely contributed this important arc, do you know?
According to AniDB: https://anidb.net/anime/1917
The central writers for the show are Tamura Tatsuo (Starzinger, Getter Robo): https://anidb.net/creator/4525
Majima Mitsuru (Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs, Ginga): https://anidb.net/creator/5429
Yamazaki Haruya (Kinnikuman, Zillion): https://anidb.net/creator/4140
And Yoshikawa Souji (Votoms, Kirby): https://anidb.net/creator/5134
However the show is also "notable" for being Matsumoto's (Harlock, Yamato) only forway in the mecha genre.
>>1198
>Soji Yoshikawa
That reminds me: if you've ever watched Armored Trooper Votoms, give Lupin III: The Mystery of Mamo a shot. Yoshikawa was the director and half of the screenwriting duo for that one, and in a weird way it's a kind of prototype for a couple ideas that he later perfects in Votoms.

As a bit of a heads' up, I'd appreciate if you guys don't namefag in other /mecha/ threads when you aren't posting about your /robowaifu/ projects or IRL mecha design. Your insights in those areas are pretty neat and relevant to what you work on, but I don't want to be way too lax in tolerating unnecessary namefagging.

What are some good examples of mecha and toku content made outside Japan? I know that mecha is generally considered an exclusively Japanese phenomenon because of its roots in animistic religion and World War II era myths like "samurai spirit". That said, a lot of Japanese pop culture is almost heavily influenced by western science fiction, especially stuff like Starship Troopers and the Blade Runner movie, so mecha is more like blend of different concepts than anything unique to Japan.

MotorSlice has at least one walking mech amidst its construction robot bosses, and a pretty huge one at that. It's a bit more dynamic to platform on than the prior bosses, as the limbs give it more exterior moving parts than the dumptruck or the helicopter. The problem is that, unfortunately, running up the thing and killing it is still a lot more trivial than a Shadow of the Colossus boss. You actually climb the latter, and cling on for dear life while the titan tries to shake you off, whereas here you just run up some geometry, do a bit of platforming, and zip around vulnerable orange patches with your chainsword. It isn't nearly as satisfying to take down, and you almost feel bad for the boss because it's helpless the moment you get a foothold.

M.A .S.S. Builder is mediocre as hell. Close to a shit game if you ask me.

Mechabellum is a halfway decent time waster if you like Multiplayer.

Grendizer is a typical license game that follows the anime episode by episode. If you like Grendizer get the switch version.

Star Renegades looks like Active Time Battle the rogue like (i.e. lazily designed).

These are all the games in this chart I know of.

Every gundamfag I've talked to about it hates G-Witch with the fury of a thousand suns. Something to do with the setting being essentially cyberpunk (Anaheim in the UC comes close but otherwise unique in the franchise) but the series itself is like a high school slice of life with robots tacked on for most of its run. While it eventually does pick up from what I've heard the plot is still basically a string of woman moments until the MC gets gay married to the main rival at the end.

Man, does GQuuuuuuX feel like it needs another episode or two. The show has almost no breathing room after they leave the colony, and there's so much going on in the last episode that I want to rewatch it to take in a couple details better. The idea of some G-Witch newfag trying to watch this and getting completely lost because of how heavily it relies on UC callbacks and Evangelion crossreferences is pretty hilarious, but even if some of it is neat, this thing is a mess.
When do we get the MAN-03 Kikeroga gunpla? I love how retarded it looks.

Looking further into this game's art and history while I've been trying to get the PC version working has been sadder than I expected. The guys who made Slave Zero crammed the game full of Eva Unit-inspired biomecha designs, but were forced by the publisher to make the player's mecha a really bland design which didn't fit the rest of the game's art direction. Most of the attention was pushed towards a gimped Dreamcast port, with the team not being allowed to further improve the PC version at all for several months before launch, and said PC version was unceremoniously shat out with almost no launch coverage to tell players it had come out at all.

As he said in the previous post's first and second images, the mecha designer was so badly burned by the experience that he decided he would never put his heart into his commercial work again. By the looks of it, he made good on that promise. Everything else in his portolio past Slave Zero is really obviously the work of someone who's just clocking in for a job.
It hurts. I get why he gave up after Slave Zero, but it still hurts.
