Since Idea Factory/Compile Heart games always had a strong presence on the Vita back in the day, figured I'd make a thread for it. I'm in the process of updating the 8chan Vita chart, and if you have any recommendations you can write for the games not currently on it, I'd appreciate it.
If you feel that games like Hyperdevotion Noire, Producing Perfection, Action U Unleashed, Blanc v. Zombies, Superdimension Neptune vs Sega Hard Girls, or any other Idea Factory/Compile Heart game on the Vita (or Vita game in general) are worth recommending, say something about it and I'll put it in.

Make sure you treat your Vita well. always love her, and never abandon her or allow her to be damaged or broken or you're no better than Soyny.

And reminder not to buy anything digital that supports Soyny (unless its for archival, sharing and piracy purposes ofc, which might become important pretty soon).

Oh look, someone's posting in the Nep board for once. I'm afraid I don't have a Vita since I've been a Lowee loyalist for my whole life, but I'll vouch for Moero Crystal since I played it on Switch. It's got 80+ monster girls that are all party members, they're all mini-bosses that you have to fight and then tame in an ecchi minigame. If you choose, you can even toss a Monster Girl crystal at them to capture them like it's fucking Pokemon. GOTTA CATCH (FUCK) EM' ALL! The entire game is also steeped in ecchi right down to the H monster designs which are... suggestive when you look at them. And Otton is a funny guy. It's a decent DRPG, but mainly sells on its premise. Its sequel Seven Pirates is on Vita as well, but that game is much worse than Moero Crystal if you ask me.

i might be the only person on the planet who's still
>BUYAN
vita games in current year, but i dunno, i just like looking at the boxart and changing out cartridges
>Mind 0
i got an amazon gift card as consolation for dropping out of college and being hikineet for 2 years, and bought that with it, among other things. i've had it described to me as "persona 4 but first-person and with a worse story", but i feel like people tend to trash on literally any JRPG that isn't normie approved, and a first-person dungeon crawler with persona's (or twewy i guess) setting, tone, and writing (and soundtrack, ideally) is something i'd love to see more of. i'm excited to get to this...eventually.
>Freedom Wars
my childhood Wii randomly spontaneously combusted one morning and i wanted to replace it. the game store that i went to had a deal going where if you bought a new console, you could get any one game for free. they didn't have any wii/gamecube games i really wanted, and i looked in the vita section and saw Freedom Wars, so i got it. i've only really gotten up to the tutorial and character creation, it seems fun, but the controls feel a bit...cluttered, if that makes sense? i don't know how to describe it. i probably should've gotten the remastered version, especially because this game seems to have an emphasis on multiplayer, but i don't like the industry's current obsession with reselling the same games we've had for the past 10 years over and over and over again, and the way i see it, i'm probably not going to be playing the game with anyone anyway. the game seems to be light on story, which is kind of a shame. i knew going in that it's kind of like monster hunter, but i was hoping the game would give me some more incentive to progress that isn't "make incremental dents in your 1,000,000 year prison sentence".
>Mary Skelter
this one's not as recent of a purchase, i got it around a year ago, but this is really important to me and i'm happy i have it. this was from the same game store where i'd later get my Wii from, and i was surprised to see a copy in person at a relatively normie game store considering that i could never find a single listing for the game online. with this, i have all three games physically, and that makes me happy, since Mary Skelter might be my favorite game series ever, or at least one of them. going back to this version after playing the remake or either of the later games isn't difficult necessarily, but it is a bit intimidating to me. the...relatively few people who've played this talk about the size of the dungeons, and while that's apparent as soon as you make it to the Temple, that isn't really what intimidates me, it's the overall game speed and balancing that i have to make an effort to get used to. i find this version less difficult than the remake overall, but the overall game speed feels much slower, between noticeable loading when you encounter an enemy, your overall movement speed being much lower going from tile to tile, and having to manually click X whenever you find a chest, an item, or when the moon changes color. i feel like nobody talks about this game's job system either, this is easily my most disliked thing about this game and i'm happy they changed it in the remake and 2; changing jobs at all requires job rights, so any time you want to change jobs or a build on a specific character, or if you make a mistake while choosing a new job for a character, you either have to grind 10 levels or savescum, which makes unlocking new jobs to learn new skills really stressful for me. i get the idea was that unlocking a new job was meant to be a permanent, linear upgrade, but it doesn't really allow me to experiment and see what builds work for which characters, since when i pick a job, i'm potentially stuck with it for the next dungeon (though as i type this out, i wonder if i could use Blood Devolution to bump whichever character back down 10 levels to make grinding back up faster? i still would rather not do that if i want to change jobs). i prefer how it is in later games where unlocking a new job lets you freely switch between it and anything you unlocked previously. but nevertheless, it's still ultimately the same Mary Skelter i've fallen in love with.

How do you work around the PSM DRM?
So, for whatever reason, NoPayStation and PKGj no longer function when downloading or installing PSM games. I did manage to find a repository of PSM games saved to Myrient however (Which include many more games than you can find on listed on NPS and PKGj): https://myrient.erista.me/files/No-Intro/Sony%20-%20PlayStation%20Mobile%20%28PSN%29/
But this brings me forward to my current problem. I cannot get these games installed. I managed to unpack them with pkg2zip, transferred them to my device, and they are showing up on the LiveArea, but I cannot actually load them because opening a game requires that I activate them through PSN. I already have NoPSMDRM installed, and have been using it to play PSM games prior to this for years. In addition, I tried rebuilding the database through ONEMenu, but it still requires that I activate the games. What am I doing wrong?
As a side note, I'm doing this on a Vita TV, and have a USB drive as my storage device.

>Shuhei Yoshida claims 2 fan favourite PS Vita games were getting sequels before the transition to PS4
https://archive.ph/tDiVJ
https://gyo.tc/1jQLN
<Sequels to two fan-favourite PS Vita games were in development before the budget for both games was diverted to PlayStation 4 development.
<That’s according to former SIE president Shuhei Yoshida, who this week revealed that the sequels were in development, but ultimately scrapped as Sony transitioned from focusing on the cult-favourite handheld to putting its resources behind the PS4.
<Speaking on Sacred Symbols+, Yoshida said: “We were actually working on Soul Sacrifice 2 and Freedom Wars 2, but because of budget limitation we had to stop and move on to PS4.”
<Yoshida also claimed that the move to PS4 is the main reason that more Sony first-party IP didn’t receive a PS Vita iteration, in the same style as Sony Bend’s Uncharted: Golden Abyss.
<Freedom Wars was originally developed by Dimps and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. While a niche hit in the West, the game was far more popular in Japan, achieving the second-highest opening sales for any PlayStation Vita title.

A bit of an update. Happened across a site that backed up the PSM server data before the Sony shut them down: http://psmreborn.com/
So now I can download and unpack the games that where previously available through PKGj/NPS (By adding the site's URL to the config file), including a few extra titles I didn't know about previously, but that's it.

So now it's about finding a way to play the PSM games that don't have any available licenses or keys floating around.

Also found this Git in the process that links to a lot of useful resources for Vita users: https://github.com/MuxaJlbl4/Awesome-PlayStation-Vita

bought a vita game today!
i went to a game store the other day to buy something, and was surprised to see this behind a glass. Estival Versus was on my list of vita games to eventually buy, but i was under the assumption that it either had an extremely limited or no physical release, since that seemed to also be the case for a ton of other vita games i wanted (and also every other SK game that wasn't Peach Beach Splash or re:Newal to my knowledge), but no, here was the limited edition.
i was torn, though, because it was relatively expensive and there were other things i was saving up to get. but then i started to get anxious...
what if it wasn't there the next time i went...what if someone else gets to it before me...it started to consume my thoughts. i won't let that happen. i won't let anyone take it from me...it's mine. mine.

ahem
but, anyway, i went back today, and it was still there, so i bought it.

Nice find. I thought for some reason that the Vita version was missing content from the PS4 version, but from what I could tell it was just an online mode. Other than that and some compromises for a portable, it should be good.

Somehow, for some reason, God saw fit to bless me today because I run across a complete first-run copy of Macross Delta Scramble: Rune Pika Sound Edition at a local store that didn't know what it had and was selling it for ten Freedom Bucks. For those wondering why this is so "special", it's an exclusive "deluxe" edition of the game with an additional 30 songs from the entire Macross franchise.

my second ps vita came in! thankfully, it's in decent condition. it's definitely preferable to my old one, that one looks like someone chewed on it...
it's the model 2000 this time, i already don't really care about oled vs lcd, and it doesn't help that the screen on the 1000 model was starting to burn out and yellow in places (though as an aside, playing games on the vita did make me appreciate oled a bit more; it easily has the best looking version of jet set radio, and it wouldn't surprise me if games like mary skelter were made with the screen in mind, i noticed it likes to contrast neons with blacks a lot).
speaking of, i got it in black + pink, because it reminded me of mary skelter, though i remember i was going back and forth on looking for one in white or white + blue, my vita case is miku-themed, so it would've fit better...
transferring the memory card over was also easier than i would've thought, though i think i have to reinstall homebrew on the 2000, none of the stuff i homebrew'd onto the memory card works. i'm hoping that's not too strenuous of a process.
i'm planning on just selling off the model 1000 (though i feel kind of bad, essentially selling off thoroughly used goods for someone else to deal with), but i need the money. i'm hoping i can get project diva and katamari after.
i'm also thinking about giving re;birth 1 and 2 another shot. i originally got into playstation partially for neptunia, but ended up feeling lukewarm towards re;birth 1, and then i guess i got too busy to really try out the rest of the series. now, though, i have a few of the games lying around, and since i'm in school at the moment, i'm hoping having a vita that's in better condition will get me more in the mood to use it more often.

>Have an autism becase of how much I just fucking hate Western localization shenanigans
>Made it my job to go out of my way to specifically get Japanese versions of games
>Download the Japanese version of Digimon: Cyber Sluts - Hacker's Memory to my Vita
>Fire the game up
>Discover the main menu offering the "option" to play the first game
>Figure it's probably just some "Previously On..." option, like the digital comic in the PS3/WiiU versions of the Mass Effect sequels, of the catch-up videos seen in Tomb Raider Underworld
>No, it's the full fucking game!!!
>Wondering what's going on
>Decide to look it up online
>Turns out localizers managed to strike again
https://archive.ph/um6WH
<The story-select menu likely defaults to Hacker's Memory because this compilation actually was aimed towards people who played Cyber Sleuth first, at least initially (and the subsequent Switch and PC ports did nothing to change this). This game's history is a bit of a mess, but to break it down.....
<Cyber Sleuth releases on the Vita in Japan.
<Sony prematurely brushes the Vita off as a dead system in the west, causing Cyber Sleuth to be ported to the PS4 when it got localized (there was still a Vita localization, but it was digital-only). For a time, this PS4 port would be exclusive outside of Japan.
<Hacker's Memory is released in Japan for the PS4 and Vita, with Cyber Sleuth included as a compilation. With this, Japan gets the PS4 version of Cyber Sleuth for the first time, and players of the original Vita Cyber Sleuth could use cloud saving to transfer their old data (and the whole compilation comes off being geared towards those veteran players as a result).
<Hacker's Memory is released in the west for the PS4 (and digital-only Vita again), but it doesn't have Cyber Sleuth included. This robbed the west of features like being able to transfer Digimon between the two storylines in post-game, and being able to play Cyber Sleuth with the new Digimon and a few quality-of-life updates (though for what it's worth, they at least made it so you could complete the entire medal collection and get all evolution items in Hacker's Memory alone).
<Complete Edition gets ported to the Switch worldwide and Steam outside of Japan (I have no clue why, but some Bandai Namco games on Steam, while technically available in the region, lack Japanese language support). This is essentially the compilation version of Hacker's Memory that Japan had on the Vita and PS4 all along. Hell, the Japanese Switch version doesn't it even call it "Complete Edition", since it is just a port (though, I'm guessing the reason the Playstation game was titled "Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - Hacker's Memory" wasn't so much because one was a side-story to the other, but more because it indicated both games in a collection, another thing that the western Playstation release sorta botched by keeping the title the same).

Never trust localized versions, NOT EVEN FUCKING ONCE!!!
