Gentlemen, the moment you've all been waiting for here will soon be here. All of you have been waiting for this moment. ...All of you that are still here, at least. It's been over 10 years. The teaser shows several new goddesses, whose designs seem to indicate they are the reps for new-gen consoles. Surprising considering VII made the eighth gen new forms for the main four in the form of the NEXT forms.
For those of you that turned your back on Neptunia over the spinoff hell, what would Compile Heart have to do here to win you back? Just make another solid turn-based JRPG? Outfits/character customization options (so you can doll up your waifu)? A plot tackling issues plaguing the game industry in the modern day like GaaS, censorship, etc.? Fanservice? Or do you believe Compile Heart are beyond redemption at this point?
Honestly, the situation in the industry has become so dire, not just for Compile Heart, but for their peers and "otaku games" (as they're called) in general, so a LOT is riding on this release. Probably too much for modern Compile Heart to bear. But bear it they must, because if this fails, I can confidently say they have no cards left to play. Their sales are in the toilet with recent releases not even charting on the Famitsu Top 30, so this, their ace in the hole, pretty much HAS to succeed or they're done.

Honestly, my standards are at rock bottom by now. All I really ask of Compile Heart from this new mainline is for it to go back to turn-based, have outfits/customization options and not be jewish with them (i.e., locking them behind digital deluxe editions), have a decent story with good characterization, not shaft my wife Blanc, and not be completely castrated for "global standards" (e.g., black voiding pantyshots/cope spats). That's all I truly demand.

At last.
I pray that they don't fuck the soundtrack up. The direction it was taking in Re:Verse, SVS and GMRE was honestly quite concerning... I don't feel the new and remixed tracks fare well against older games.
Fingers crossed for it being a proper return to form with no brainless SVS/GMRE combat system burdening it.
Also... god I hope this is not going to be the third time they'll try to make a Nep gacha.

This would do it, it being on par with 2010s writing would be ideal. SvS did not hold me.
I want decent music back too, SvS stuff is mostly mediocre.

I'll repeat what I said in the other thread and say I'm not really happy with the idea of new CPUs representing the current gen consoles. It basically retcons the NEXT forms which were supposed to take that role, and once again introduces the idea of the main four being replaced again since they now have actual "successors". All this time, the goddesses were supposed to represent the companies/publishers as a whole as well as home consoles, with the Candidates being their handheld divisions. Now we're looking at, apparently, every new console being repped by a new goddess. It also means Blanc now has to share even MORE of her screentime and spotlight with a new Lowee goddess when she already has to contend with Rom and Ram.
*sigh* I'll guess we'll just have to wait and see. I'm also disappointed at the apparent lack of Plutia and Uzume as well. So I guess those two are just going to be relegated to spinoffs forever now if they even appear at all, huh?

>I pray that they don't fuck the soundtrack up. The direction it was taking in Re:Verse, SVS and GMRE was honestly quite concerning... I don't feel the new and remixed tracks fare well against older games
I've heard nothing from them, so I can't speak for them. I'm hoping for something VII-tier myself. That game, along with Mary Skelter 1 and 2, showed me Compile Heart games could have truly great soundtracks. Mary Skelter's in particular is amazing. At the very least, I want a Fairy Fencer F ADF-level soundtrack, which was very good, but not quite VII-tier in my opinion.

Another thing; everyone seems to be excited about the prospect of Vert finally getting "sisters", but to me, this feels like basically cheating. The Xbox Series X and S are mainline Xbox consoles with the S just being a pared down X. Logically, by all indicated in-universe logic, they should be Vert, but because Xbox is obviously never going to release a proper handheld (and they apparently don't want to count the ROG Xbox Ally), they basically rewrote the rules to make the Xbox Series into new goddesses, just to (apparently) solve the Vert sister question. It feels like a cop-out.
>>9270
>home consoles, with the Candidates being their handheld divisions.
Unfortunately this division aged like fine milk, none of the four lands have a proper handheld experience anymore, except for Lowee, but Switch has its own obvious problem if we think about its place in the CPU/Candidate classification.
Giving Vert sisters through underhanded means is not far off from how she tried fo get a proper handheld Candidate by slapping an Xbox sticker on a ROG Ally.
I do think it's okay to give her a sister or two for the final Neptunia encore. Apparently, Compa decided to make her VII dream a reality. Would she call them Vert and Vert in the new game at least once, I wonder?

I actually thought a Switch form for Blanc that works kinda like a combining mecha with Rom and Ram would be cool.
The only other nation that actually had a "proper handheld" experience past the 2000s was Lastation, actually, and we all saw how Uni was treated. Lowee being the last bastion of console handhelds was to be expected. But I guess Compile Heart just doesn't want to grapple with the implications of this.
>Giving Vert sisters through underhanded means is not far off from how she tried fo get a proper handheld Candidate by slapping an Xbox sticker on a ROG Ally.
That's the thing (or part of it). The entire "everything is an Xbox" campaign is absolutely ripe for joke potential, if not an entire joke plotline about how pathetically desperate and irrelevant Vert has become. And they seemingly just threw it all out to cheat the Xbox Series into being pseudo-Candidates all along.
When you think about it, outsourcing the developments of the ninth and tenth console generations to a new set of goddesses seems like just another way for Compa to dodge seriously changing the status quo and characterization/development of the main goddesses and Gamindustri in general. Because if you look at it objectively, modern Gamindustri is a gay cyberpunk dystopia.

I don't think they're ever going to acknowledge it, sadly. Remember PC land right now is PC-98 games and doujin Windows games from the 95/98 era. Alongside the mobile sisters.
Also I am concerned that Dogoo was not an attempt to make new models for everyone before the next mainline game which featured everyone.

I am pretty sure the models in Neptunia Riders vs Dogoo were based on the same ones used in Virtual Stars or Sisters vs Sisters onward. The theory was that it was a demo for Uzume's new model, who had unfinished assets in the files of SvS. But unless Compile Heart surprises us, it doesn't seem like she's going to be in the new mainline...
>>9280
>combining mecha with Rom and Ram would be cool.
Being able to toggle between docked and handheld modes (less AGI, longer wait time after attacks but more damage and tankiness / commanding Rom and Ram independently to deal Rush-like attack that would set up status aliments) would be pretty great, too. I really wish they could actually show this as a rare example of a CPU Candidate graduating and finally becoming a CPU on par with their predecesors. Switch being a hybrid console is probably CH's only chance to do so.

There seems to be this persistent idea going around on the subr*ddit and possibly other sites that the NEXT forms were only a temporary power up that needed the Gold Towers/Gold Third to function, or some similar excuse as to why they can't return. In VII, there is nothing that implies the NEXT forms are anything but permanent parts of the CPUs' repertoire after achieving them. The Hyper Share Crystal was made from Shares and "Gold Third Energy", but it's important to note that "Gold Third Energy" is just Shares transmitted through the Gold Towers into a form the Gold Third could receive and use. The Gold Towers were nothing but an adapter. In essence, the Hyper Share Crystal is just a really strong, glorified Share Crystal that essentially "jumpstarted" potential that the Goddesses always had in them. And after the NEXT forms are achieved, they can be accessed at will provided the Share requirements are met. Hate to come off like a shounenfag (even though I admittedly kinda am), but basically, think Super Saiyan 2. Once Gohan achieved it and held it the first time, he could access it at will as long as he didn't become to rusty and out of shape. Hell, the Neptunia manga reinforces the comparison with a gag.
So why did the NEXT forms not return? Probably mostly laziness on Compa's part, realistically speaking, but honestly, I think Compile Heart kinda regretted making the NEXT forms from the get-go as they shook up the power scale too much for their liking. The NEXT forms definitively make the Goddesses qualitatively superior to the Candidates and CH has always tried to push and reinforce the idea that the Candidates have at least equal standing with the Goddesses, and the entire existence of the NEXT forms undercuts, not to mention the fact that it puts them on a powerscale such that they should wipe the floor with most threats easily. If Neptune actually remembered she could go NEXT Purple in SvS, she might have beaten Arfoire on her own or at least not jobbed and got kidnapped. Then SvS doesn't happen or can't be a Nepgear story like they want it because Nepgear is a passive pussy who NEVER steps up unless Neptune is out of the picture. So evidently, they'd rather pretend the NEXT forms don't exist, and have gone as far as to make new Goddesses to represent the ninth gen of consoles just to avoid having to give new forms to the Goddesses again, despite all the questions that raises.

>>9302
This is a bit more involved than my idea. I basically had Rom and Ram (representing the Joycons) transform into attachable parts for Blanc (representing the main console), giving her a form that has both physical and magical power as well as durability with the only weak area being speed (as the Switch lags behind its competitors significantly in sheer processing power). Also, the Labo would be an armory of special weapons for her, because the whole idea was to be like a creative soapbox.

I don't know why I got my hopes up at all. The fact that they stooped as low as to make something like Villion Code should have been the final evidence. There is no otaku spirit left in Compile Heart at all. The new mainline is blatantly trying to ape Genshin aesthetics too with its pseudo open world feel and battle system. How pathetic that the trend-makers have been reduced to trend-followers.

from my outsider's perspective:
i like the way the models and some of the environments look (namely the city area, though that's probably just because i like cities)
something about the shading/lighting makes it look...generic? to me; i can't quite put it into words, i can totally see what you mean by calling it genshin though
it looks like they're using 3d models during the cutscenes sometimes, i feel a little mixed on that since i kind of like 2d portraits more in general, though also i thought the way the portraits looked in most of compa's games looked kind of cheap before, and i feel like the 3d models work a bit better with how the characters move and emote a bit bitter...i'm not sure which approach i prefer
i don't like the character designs, though i already didn't feel strongly about how nep's characters looked before so i'm not sure how valuable my viewpoint is; i did always think nep's parka was the most adorable thing ever and i loved it, but here it looks kind of soulless, and i get that feeling from all the other designs
i don't know who thought adding more characters to the cast was a good idea, i already felt like the cast seemed kind of bloated before
and finally, i checked out immediately when i saw it's not turn-based, the battle system was probably my favorite aspect about re;birth 1 from what i played of it

i think it probably would've been a better idea to do a reboot and start with a new continuity

This new installment centers around an apocalyptic threat facing Gamindustri. The story follows Neptune, who finds herself alone in a white space after a catastrophic meteor. Guided by an unknown voice and marked with a strange number, she gains the ability to “retry”, looping between endings and new beginnings.

As she progresses, Neptune reunites with allies and encounters new companions and enemies, ultimately attempting to overcome repeated failures.

Not a huge fan of them finally giving us explorable cities just to change them. Gameplay looks better than Gamemaker, looks like Star Ocean 6 actually. I'll give it a shot, especially if it comes to Xbox.

It's already looking like a pseudo-reboot. The description makes it sound like something destroyed the old Gamindsutri (likely that Xbox meteor) and Neptune had to deus ex machina reset everything, resulting in a world where these new Goddesses exist and everything is altered.

I'm still mad about them effectively shelving Gal*Gun even if I can understand their reasoning. But they at least made it clear they regret not being able to make a Gal*Gun 3, and from Majogami and stuff, they're still TRYING to be an otaku company, even if their gameplay is becoming more and more jank. So I still respect them enough to not put them on a permanent blacklist like I'm about to with Compa. I'll probably pick up Majogami on Switch eventually.
It's a fucking shame that LoveR Kiss was the only real, unneutered otaku game of 2025 that we got, and Tokyo Clanpool is looking like it'll be the last thing I ever buy from Compa (and even there only by proxy of Eastasiasoft who are far more based and principled than CH is).

excited to get into it, hopefully before the next decade since i'm drowning in backlog currently

I had such low standards here. All I asked is that it at least be as ecchi as the original trilogy (not a high bar to clear, Neptunia never went as far with the ecchi as Compa's other pre-2020 IPs), have a solid setup, and be turn-based again. It's fucking unreal how they managed to fail ALL THREE of those checks in the FIRST FUCKING TRAILER!
I'm practically speechless, reduced to frothing with rage at how outrageously goddamned lazy and castrated they are.

I M O; these new designs kind of suck. It's not even a lewd thing, it's a "Can I put these characters in a lineup and tell them apart from Gacha characters?"

Because I can still do that with any of the original Neppers to this day. Their designs are simple but striking. They're designs are so simple that I could even do it if they were naked, because even the tiniest details like their hair, the shape of their heads, or their eyes are simple and striking on their own. These designs are close to 16 years old at this point.

I don't want to say this is because of lazy design or because a design requirement for more clothes than the originals has meant that they now have more busy designs, but it's definitely the kind of thing I will struggle to tell the difference apart in.
I am mixed on this new game. Lowee and Lastation goddesses have nice boots at least. Not all that fond of the redesigns for our four besides Neptune but her trainers are worse. Immensely disappointed that it is not a turn based rpg.
Also I'm going to repeat a pessimist view that I repeated in another thread: The censorship could be because they want to sell us the original costumes as DLC. In Dogoo, this was about $5 just to put their old clothes on.

Riders vs Dogoo doesn't have the original outfits, it's just the swimsuits, race queen outfits, and "apocalyptic" Mad Max-style costumes.
At least one season pass is present;

I imagine this will just be outfits and items and the like, maybe a new area or some Makers. I will be genuinely surprised if they add in Uzume or Plutia through it.
Sadly, considering everything else, I think Plutia's gone for good. They obviously can't deal with Iris Heart if they don't even want to show the old HDD processor forms any more.

I'd like to see it. Also the meteor threatening all of Gamindustri means we may see Arfoire playable yet.

Most likely outfits and attachments, yeah. Just surprised since this was not something they did when I was really into Nep. Also since season passes no longer mean "All the dlc at a discount." we know there is probably going to be a fair amount. Hopefully not Falcom levels of dlc.
The original designs and maybe the V ones are almost guaranteed to be sold as dlc. Swimsuits are a guarantee, beyond that and some joke attachments though, I could not say.
>Uzume or Plutia
Returning characters beyond the main eight are probably not happening, no. Sucks for me too since I want Ai chan back but this is a goddess only series now. Goddess tier at best.

Isolated gameplay. Switch seems to have Pippih's fighting style so she might be DLC as a reskin? They fixed Neptune's attack speed which was terrible in SvS.

The spinoffs are not really relevant to this game so I am not sure why they said that. Compile Heart were able to get away with this, picrel, because the non goddess characters had mostly limited roles.

Basically all the dwarves had little character building moments that were removed (IE: Oin had a scene in Dale before the mountain, most of Bofur's made it in to the extended) in favor of a love triangle with a non-book OC and cringe worthy greed bad Alfrid.

People on 4/v/ are, as typical, shilling for the new game and censored designs, this time by using the "b-but they HAD to do it or they'd get ding dong bannu" excuse.
No they didn't. Never once, even during their peak censorship, did Soyny ever touch the original HDD designs, and arguably even Nintendo isn't to blame there because GMRE released with them at the same time they killed the Re;Births.
Every mainline prior had bath scenes, fanservice CGs and skills, etc. None of it went as far as some of Compa's other IPs, it was fairly baseline and typical of anime-style JRPGs. To drop even those, to the point the rating of the games lowers (from CERO C to B, ESRB T to E10) is Compa compromising in a way they really don't need to. I am not being unreasonable to ask for at least Re;Birth-level fanservice. You can say maybe Nintendo is an issue there, but every other platform is more cooperative with such material now, even Xbox. Nintendo is the outlier at this point and Compa choosing to neuter themselves even further for them is a choice they made on their own. The Switch release is blatantly just for the Japanese audience at this point anyway. This insistence on doing "one-size-fits-all" releases and censoring for the lowest common denominator has become the Achilles' heel of Japanese game publishers. It is a habit they need to break yesterday. No one is going to hold it against you if one platform insists on an inferior experience, but giving the same inferior experience to everyone else is just insulting them. And tell me Compa, how well has insulting your playerbase gone for you, huh? I feel you need only look at your recent sales numbers and the frigid reception to your long-awaited ace in the hole.

>No they didn't.
In their defense, God knows what kind of changes the corpos demanded. Corpos are very anal about their representations. Maybe that's the reason why Neptune NEXT is mostly untouched while the rest are censored? Some suit felt like the mascot is too spicy for their company?
I wouldn't put the self-censorship beside them but that's even more unreasonable than assuming that censorship guidlines came from someone else. Self-censorship is hysterical because it raises the question, who the fuck are they making these games for? Audience that hates fanservice will never even look at Neptunia because of its past and conveniently ignoring for the sake of reaching a "broader audience" is not only disrespectul to fans that like older games, it's also pretentious as fuck

About the new designs, for the human forms, the primary feel I get from them is that the director told the character designer to "modernize" the CPUs. Because that's the feel I get from them, they're meant to be "modern", with all that implies. They're sleek, simplified, and made "safer" overall, like how all these companies started trotting out new "modern" logos that looked like they were made in MS Paint in five minutes by a freshman. They all give off an "office" look, too, as if the Goddesses have been reduced from the sacred figures they once were to mere bureaucrats. Desacralization at work, a trademark of modernity and its consequences.
The only thing I really like about the new designs, is that Blanc looks much more like a loli now. They made her obviously smaller than Neptune, she's clearly the loli of the group like she was meant to be. And God, it's so cute, she's perfectly wife-sized. I want to hold her in my lap so badly, she's so tiny and precious. Ah, I love her so much. So sick, too, of all these fanartists drawing her with aged-up or "thick" proportions, or ignoring her for Rom and Ram. Maybe they'll finally acknowledge her as the lovely petite loli goddess she is now.

This comes at the expense of making Neptune drop her goofy parka which contributed a lot to a loli image of her own.

This is NOT what they should look back. I'm surprised the development and artist team didn't push back against this change. Tsunako worked so hard on refining the old designs and simplifying them must've felt like hell. I feel sorry for her.

So let's recap what we've observed so far.

>It's not the return to form we were all hoping for, it's just more of the same type of game we've been getting since 2020 from Compile Heart, since Sisters vs Sisters. Gameplay is still action-based and seemingly more open-world, cribbing from modern JRPG trends largely stemming from Genshin Impact which the game's overall aesthetic increasingly resembles. Examples of other JRPGs that followed this trend include Atelier with Ryza 3 and especially Yumia; in the latter case, GUST specifically billed it as "modernizing" Atelier for a global audience. We can assume similar intentions are at play here with Compile Heart and this new Neptunia.
<Consequently, it's looking like turn-based Neptunia is dead for good, this was the perfect chance to bring it back as this is supposed to be a new mainline which were all turn-based previously and we were told SvS and GMRE were just spinoffs, not necessarily indicative of what was to come. Well, turns out, unfortunately, they very much were.
>The new designs are very "modern" and bureaucratized, lacking much of the ero-kawaii appeal the old designs had. The new HDD forms use the NEXT forms as a base with pieces of the old processors. They too are much more conservative than the old designs. Promo/store bonuses are in sketch phase and they too look very basic and tame. Any hopes for a return to pre-2020 fanservice levels are swiftly falling to pieces
<The story is seemingly a pseudo-reboot set in a vastly altered Gamindustri caused by Neptune time-looping to prevent an impending future catastrophe. The prominent X on the meteor suggests it will focus heavily on Xbox. Noire, Blanc and Vert have all stepped down from their roles as the rulers and icons of their nations in favor of a new generation based on ninth-gen consoles, now serving in advisor roles (further reinforcing the bureaucratic subtext). Once again, like with mk2, the question of succession and the replacement of the original four is raised as it seems they are being primed to be pushed to the sidelines, to say nothing of the Candidates who were supposed to fill that role initially. The rules of the setting have seemingly been rewritten.

Overall, very disappointing, especially for those like myself who were pinning all their hopes here for a proper return to form. It seems nu-Compa is firmly set in her ways and we are never going to get the pre-2020 kino back. Ship of Theseus theory comes to mind; increasingly pre-2020 and post-2020 Compile Heart seem like vastly different companies with entirely different approaches to development and marketing as well as the audiences they target. For those of us who were attached to the old Compa, it seems it is finally time to bury the cope for good and move on.
Replies: >>9473
>>9466
>>9468
I think the "bureaucratic subtext" could work as a plot point if CH make the game about how the modern industry is almost entirely centered around topics like the increased politics surrounding game development, that it's more about increasing that share and company value than make a game people will actually buy, and how modern media is designed to be inoffensive (Unless it's pushing a "politically correct" message) rather than appeal to theri demographics. So it could make sense in the context of such a plot, but I have zero faith in these people having that level of self-awareness.

The more I think about it, the more I hate these new goddesses effectively upstaging the old ones. Lowee isn't even Lowee any more, it's "Sweenia", and Blanc has been reduced to a bit player in her own country. Why does Compile Heart keep doing this? Why do they keep trying to push out the main four? Do they not like them any more? Do they genuinely think there's nothing more they can do with them?
Fuck you, it's LOWEE, not this "Sweenia" place, the Switch was Blanc's idea, and your ugly, baggy "Red Heart" will NEVER replace my goddess White Heart!
