I got a Mega Drive II in 1994
My first game for it was the Lion King
I had two controllers for it

Today I just use my desktop PC to emulate Mega Drive games
I have a controller adapter to usb, so I can use the Mega Drive controller I already own with my PC

I had dreams about making my own games for the Mega Drive/Genesis
In 2016 I got onto the spritesmind forum and started using SGDK (Sega Genesis Development Kit) to make simple programs and also started working on a platformer game
I got as far as a proof of concept demo
One can use the C programming language with SGDK to make games

There are a lot of interesting projects related to the Mega Drive/Genesis on hackaday
https://hackaday.com/blog/?s=genesis
Deflemask and Furnace Tracker are the main two music programs that are used to make Mega Drive/Genesis music today, in cas anyone is interested

My family had a model 2 Genesis back in the '90s for a while. In the 2000s we got both a model 2 and a model 1. I don't know what happened to them, but I ended up acquiring both types again. I have a flash cart but usually just play my MiSTer when I'm in that kind of mood.

I played around with Furnace a while ago, and it's really nice. I was considering learning Renoise for more general-purpose use, but I much preferred the more spartan Furnace interface. It just makes me wish there was a forked offshoot that aimed to be a full-blown DAW.

Monster World IV is such a technically outstanding game, you'd be hard pressed to believe it's not an indie game made today aping the successes of the past. I seriously cannot exhaust how impressive this game is.

I just found my Mega Drive II again, last time I used it was in 2016 and the screen showed a lot of lines and such at the time, so it must need replacement of some electrolytic capacitors
I'm glad I still have it, the adapter is here and everything as far as I can tell, it has Sonic and Knuckles still in the slot

Last night I placed an order for 2 controllers like this
I still have at least 1 controller from the 90's, but who knows how long it will last?
So I decided to get 2 new controllers with good buttons so I could potentially play games with a friend

I have some of these too but don't even remember if I've opened them up or not. The are where my CRT TV is is too cluttered, so it's not fit for any of my old game systems to be set up there. I got some USB ones for my MiSTer though. Using a SNES-style controller just doesn't cut it for games made with the six-button Genesis controller in mind.

SCART-to-HDMI-Converter.jpg

I just bought a SCART to HDMI adapter
The idea is to be able to connect the mega drive to more recent screens, hopefully it works..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aD95SxjkzAU
Apparently I needed another thing before I could properly test my Mega Drive with more recent screens
And that is a cable to connect the Mega Drive itself, without using the old RF module

In 2014 I had the idea to 3d print Mega Drive/Genesis cartridges
First I had to model them in a 3d modeling program, I only had sketchup at the time but I managed to make pretty accurate models of cartridges
I had issues with 3d printing them though (the sketchup models may have been too "leaky" to print properly)
Making such models in blender would work a lot better and make them much better for 3d printing. As of this posting I haven't attempted to make such models in blender, but I'm interested and might make new models soon

>>1973
If these look good enough perhaps I wont have to make new cartridge models
But maybe I'll make a model for a case (which the cartridge can be stored in)
I have seen a case that was in two parts, I'd like to make some experiments to see if I can 3d print a 1 part case

I had dreams about making my own games for the Mega Drive, both while awake and while sleeping but I didn't really know how to go about it for a long time until in 2016 when I found out about SGDK.
I had been working with others on a PC fan game project but that project seemed to have fizzled out. So I decided I wished to work on my own thing, to make a game for the Mega Drive. At first I thought of a platformer with a character having a gun and a tail, exploring environments inside large domes on alien planets. But that idea changed. I had been working on making a 3d printed super soaker like squirtgun in 2014 (It ended up not working as the trigger mechanism failed) so I got the idea of the character having a super soaker like squirtgun.
Pic related inspired the game I wished to make, It was to be a tropical vacationy leasure with girls having animal ears and tails. The protagonist would be a catgirl.

The playable character's name is Lora, she's a typical catgirl who likes squirtguns and being active outdoors. The setting is the subtropical twin tail peninsula, in the year 2112 AD. The story is called Catgirl Waterpark (yet to be fully written as of this posting). The game is called Catgirl (Waterpark) Pool Party. The gameplay has yet to be fully developed as of this posting but has been inspired by various other Mega Drive/Genesis games and also inspired by the Takeshi's Castle and Wipeout (US) TV shows. After starting work on the game in 2016, I ran into some limits and issues I didn't know how to work with at the time. This lead me to eventually switch over to Godot for a time, but eventually I didn't like the direction the Godot version was taking so I put the game project on the shelf so to speak. Now I've with renewed interest decided to work on the Mega Drive/Genesis version again but with help. I have already found a good musician who is properly familiar with YM2612 and related music stuff. I may require some help with the coding, I'm fairly good with the graphics but open to help with that too. Some design elements are in question but I'm sure it'll work out.

Here's the project page on itch.io:
https://hik.itch.io/catgirl-pool-party

There are also project pages on spritesmind forum here:
https://gendev.spritesmind.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2518
and here:
https://gendev.spritesmind.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2944

It is possible the game will be put up for sale when it gets properly finished, but unfinished versions accessible on the itch.io site will be free to play up until a certain point of development. That's what it looks like now at least, I haven't fully decided on everything as of yet
It has been a while since I worked on the project, so it'll take a bit of a while to get back into it properly. First I'm building up a bit of a hype to get work done on it and getting some additional help so the project may get finished within a reasonable amount of time

I got the cable for outputting the video signals from the Mega Drive II and tested it. Turns out the console runs fine and it outputs an image to the screen. However the colors are messed up so it needs something like CleanRGB. The controller worked fine. I have yet to receive the new controllers as of this posting.

Today I was prompted to rate the seller and experience of the product so far
I plugged the Retro-bit Sega controller into the usb adapter and connected the usb to the PC. Apparently the adapter does not work with my current setup (I'm running Windows 10)
I unplugged it from the adapter and connected it to the Mega Drive II console after setting it up again. Upon powering on and entering game, the controller worked well, I could control the character in the game
So I rated this controller product well
I'm disappointed in the usb adapter though (Its an older mayflash adapter from probably around 10 years ago)

Hopefully you can get it all sorted, and work out your development dream. Good luck, Anon!
I decided to buy a new usb adapter for the controllers, I also placed an order for an RGB cable with a SCART connector, hopefully that cable will make the video signal output better
I have yet to receive these two things as of this posting, likely to get them in 2 days or so

Indeed the game had its threads on older /kind/ boards that are no longer around.. I don't think I posted about it on the latest /kind/ board
I might make posts about it there after making some progress with working on the game
I have mostly just been working on ideas and getting some music worked on by the music friend, but next month I'll get back into working on the game more properly

I switched to dinput instead of xinput and then used joytokey to map the buttons to keyboard keys and confirmed in notepad that it works, then I just configured the controls to match those keys in the genesis/megadrive emulator and it works with the emulator now

But when I went to pick it up at the drop point I designated it wasn't there, I guess I'll have to wait for it to either arrive there or call the drop service next time they are open to calls..
This is the first time I've had this much issues with a package, hopefully it will be worth it..

The cable arrived today
I took it over to a friend and he plugged it into an "upscaler" and lo and behold, the colors worked properly this time
Apparently I have to buy such an upscaler thingy for this to work properly but it will have to wait for a while
What I'm actually gonna buy when I get the chance is called "Open Source Scan Converter"
As was mentioned before CleanRGB could also work but with it one would have to solder wires to the Mega Drive PCB and tune it by oneself
With the OSSC one can just plug the stuff in and it just works

In the game there be at least 5 areas, maybe 6

-Jungle Temple
-Waterpark proper
-Hot spring baths (optional)
-Cruiseliner

There may also be portions of the areas that may be underwater
