Kinder Eggs, Optimus Prime, Detolf Shelves, and Cobra Commander are probably the best looking from there. For a Bionicle I'd instead suggest using an MMD model (which /lego/ has done and it looks way better than the 4CC Kopaka) and one of the OG bonks would be best for the job: https://www.deviantart.com/sab64/art/MMD-Model-Toa-Mata-Download-785906249

Also found a 3d model, probably closest we're going to get to Minase: https://www.deviantart.com/shuubaru/art/DOAXVV-Tamaki-Night-Cage-DL-743437253

Fair enough, I just thought if we had some 3d models it would make us stand out a bit. I guess if that's the case we should remove Hentai Woody as captain - how about replacing him with Toy Soldier?

GK should be Spinning Skeleton of Death.

Thanks anon for that info! I never knew this line had diecast which is quite impressive for an action figure line after the 80's.

>but they would need a massive design overhaul & better QC which isn't happening because toy company budgets are less now than ever before
While there's truth for that mostly in shitty Hasbro and Mattel case , I think there are still quite few toy companies that actually high budgets for their toys such as MGA, Playmobil, Playmates toys (the new Miraculous Ladybug dolls look great), Panda Mony, etc. QC issues however are much more prevalent problem and I'm not sure it just due to smaller budget.

>Tyco long gone
Another Hasbro/Mattel victim

>the crash dummy safety campaign having vanished decades ago, I doubt it
>The last relaunch of these were a unrelated reboot that didn't catch on
You can always trust Mattel/Hasbro to either fuck up or hold onto the copyrights without doing anything, of the toy franchises they got from different toy companies they swallowed through the years.

Speaking of crash test dummy figures, there's highly articulated one by Dam Toys and new Playmobil clicky in the blind bag Figures line or as part of big set from the new upcoming Stunt Show theme.

>diecast
No, you misread, they didn't have any proper diecast metal body parts(that I'm aware of, I had a lot of the toys but not 100% of them). The inner clips for the pop-off limbs were metal pins, about the thickness of sewing needles that pinched the limb pegs using small springs. They broke easily when the toys were still current, and I would imagine age hasn't been kind to those thin prongs.

Test dummies are still in use, of course, they just don't get any of the TV ad time that they used to.

The final line had the "junkbots" villains which were fairly decent and some of them came packed with a CGI animated episode on VHS. It was very basic mid-90s CGI so it didn't really look good even when they released it.

BTW Vince & Larry from the original TV ads did get toys in the line, they were a bit hard to find though, even though they were just easy recolors of the main body. There were also console video games that were... not really that good. They were LJN releases.
Replies: >>443
>>438
My bad. BTW do you own any of them? I would expect that, seeing how knowledgeable you're about this toyline which is quite impressive.
Replies: >>444
>>443
I owned them when they were released, but not anymore. The basic "Vince & Larry" body flew apart and the limbs could be further separated. There were a lot of other specialty bodies with their own gimmicks, several vehicles and a large playset.

The second series had the "Junkbot" villains and a lot of the cast repainted in "Transformers G2" colors as some sort of body armor gimmick. There were 4 villains with a repaint of the leader that had a VHS tape packed with it and a couple smaller vehicles for them.

I'm not sure why the line died, the poor QC(in addition to the weak prongs, some of the plastic was a bit below standard, which for a line meant to be slammed into things as a play pattern, was kind of a bad idea), could have been a factor but the safety board that owned the property seemed to lose interest in continuing it, I would guess because the brand leaned hard into the play gimmick of crashing vehicles and didn't promote the safety aspect they wanted. The later series tried to revive it but it didn't work out, they didn't sell well and none of the original characters came back.
Replies: >>447
>>444
Oh, so they were your childhood toys? Neat!
>I'm not sure why the line died
Most toylines die rather quickly after 1-3 waves, including great ones such as Sectaurs, Bone Age, Blackstar, etc. We got this wrong perception from toylines such as MLP, TF and Barbie that toylines should last forever, but in fact continuous death and replacement of toylines is what kept the toy market healthy and creative.

I got the Galaxy of Adventures Darth Vader. I thought of buying him from Amazon, but I didn't feel like it, so instead I ended up gettingt it as gift which is highly appreciated since he's being sold here for more than double the price! Was he worth it? meh. I like his size which makes him perfect to hold in your palm, also what's unique and outstanding about this Darth Vader is that his mask look actually menacing and not like some bizarre robot teddy bear meaning he's the only Darth Vader I ever considered to buy . Although he has good amount of PoA (13~14*), the execution is quite wonky; the hinges of the elbows and knees are squarish and don't move smoothly. It's really bad in the case of the elbows which are stiff and you can only three different positions and barely anything between. Of course, the hip articulation is absolute shit like 99.9% of all Hasbro action figures and even worse than the standard ML trash; he can't even raise his legs to 90 degree sitting. For fuck sake, even Playmates can do better. Speaking of ML, he has that badly twisted ankle pivot which doesn't go straightly inwards, but since it's genuine playline and the way the boots are sculpted, it's forgivable.

The action gimmick Alter Nation did it better is unnecessary and doesn't contribute anything; his torso twist forwards and it could've been cool if he had fist, but nope. Strangely th

>what could've been a great figure is hampered by bad engineering and QC issues.

You're welcome and thanks! The first 2012 TMNT are amazing; they came with a lot of weapons, are fun to pose despite the limited articulation and have gorgeous sculpts. I think I'll use Darth Vader as Shredder fodder until a decent one will come out.

I saw a reviews of the new Sky Lynx (and the G1).
I fear the upcoming Sky Lynx will have a QC issue as in one review he couldn't stand properly and his wings were floopy.
Seeing also the old G1 version, it was able to stand straight and the legs were positioned in much more accurate proportion. Overall the G1 one looked better besides the neck IMHO.
The Bird mode is also a main selling point, now I'm not sure how I feel about it...
Replies: >>220

I wonder if whoever designed this was solely using some digital 3d modelling application because having him being able to stand up properly and not have his wings droop should be one of the most obvious priorities.

Enginreeing haven't been the strongest side lately of neither Takara nor Hasbro. I think changing the position of legs would've help and even go as far as making the legs from diecast, but that would've required an extra effort and budget from Hasbro and their half-assed "adult collector" wannabe line.

Because China doesn't abide international copyright laws.
As for the high quality of 3rd party TF; don't forget most products are made in china and ranging from low quality to high quality so it's not impossible to have high quality products by Chinese companies despite being less common. 3rd Party companies are founded by passionate fans so of course they want and try to make high quality and original figures by themselves.

(8.7MB)
Back in 1991 Dragon magazine made a game where Army Men are pitted against an invasion of Dinosaurs- a game anyone could play with cheap dollar store toys. DINO WARS! allows you to use any army men & plastic dinosaurs you have lying around to re-enact both childhood play and lost-in-time B-movie action, only this time with dice, tape measures, and shiny rules instead of just your lousy imagination. It is really geared towards two-sided battles, humans vs. dinosaurs, but you can have as many players as you have room and figures for per side.
