You should stop before you embarrass yourself further. You could have avoided most of this by checking the websites and release pages of any of this software you supposedly know so much about. The only one that's remotely excusable is thinking mpv doesn't have built-in motion smoothing and that means avoiding the manual's video section.

Anyone know of a program or script* that can sort duplicate pics by identical thumbnails and/or hashtags? I have literal tens of thousands of pics from varying imageboards going back almost a decade in one folder and doing this manually is murderously tedious. I ask here because imageboards and anime go hand in hand and I'm assuming someone here has a handle on this.

*I know nothing about scripting but am willing to learn
>>20177
I think Hydrus has that feature.
>>20177
You can decode them and hash the resulting raw image (jpeg/png/etc files can be different yet contain the exact same image pixel by pixel), then sort by hash, and list the duplicate hashes in an unix commandline.
That would at the very least involve learning some degree of POSIX shell, the standard POSIX utilities "sort" and "uniq", and some hashing utility.

I heard some time ago that some guys made a hashing algorithm that is supposed to make similar hashes for similar images, in case you have the same "underlying" image made different by being reencoded or encoded from different sources, and then you can have a look at similar hashes, but I can't find it and haven't used it.

The other anon suggested Hydrus, maybe that does it, I have never cared to use it.
Replies: >>20307
>>20177
If you want to learn scripting and can use bash, check out https://mywiki.wooledge.org/BashGuide and remember to read the fucking manual.
I'll spoonfeed you a little with something that is useful but probably not what you want.
This shows files with exact hash duplicates:
find /path/to/directory/ -not -empty -type f -exec sha1sum {} \; | sort | uniq -Dw40
If you want to find images that are exactly the same pixel wise, you could convert everything to BMP first with imagemagick and check those instead.
Hydrus automatically removes exact duplicates and has a visual near-duplicate filter, but you'll lose your filenames. You may be able to do some scripting to get them back though.
Replies: >>20232 >>20307
>>20219
I believe Hydrus lets you map the filename to a filename tag, so you can just import everything, remove your dupes, then restore the filename from the tag when you export. I never bothered because I use Hydrus as a sewer for booru tag dumps that I don't want to lose to mods cucking out.
Replies: >>20307
>>20125
The title bar is determined by your window manager.
>>20177
Hydrus can do this and gives you plenty of information to go off of when deciding which to delete.
In fact, switch over to using Hydrus for storing those images as well, you can use tags with an image and look up the tags instead of trying to remember which folder it's under.

Ultimately went with Hydrus and opted to test it out on another PC with a similar "too many images with tens of duplicates mixed in" predicament. I'll start off by saying that I love the export feature. Removing duplicates is a priority but sorting this shit into other folders was always the next task. Sadly, the way it does the other stuff isn't something I'm a fan of.

It seems that the process of importing involves outright copying the pics from the selected folder to several subfolders in a "db" folder organized by the first three characters of the hash. Anything starting with d1 is put in the same folder, for example. I know there's a check option that deletes the source images upon importing but I'm glad I tried this elsewhere and not on a laptop that's very strapped for space. I want the program to not copy or move anything unless I tell it to. Problem is that I can't tell if this process outright changes the hash (and with how messy my folder is, I can't even tell if exporting changes the filename). Come to think of it, I don't even know how to check an image's hash code manually just to make sure. Another issue is that despite the many sorting options, there's no "identical/similar thumbnail" option but dupes tend to be the same size so I should i use this thing for real I'll just go with that option.

Emphasis on "should I" because I've yet to determine whether or not to use this on the device I need to use it on. I simply dragged the afflicted folder to the open client and the import process was easy from there. Wanna see if this works for dragging a cluster of the image files themselves. Doing one year's bunch at a time might do it. Also, I can't seem run it and Firefox at the same time but the other PC uses that RAM hogging newest version that CTDs when more then two Youtube tabs and three auto updating threads are open for too long. Might have better luck on the laptop that still has a Firefox running one process instead of several.

tl;dr Thank you all for sending me in the right direction. Will tinker around a bit more and read up on the weighty help pages to see if this really is the right one for me.

The idea behind hydrus is you use tags to look up files instead of filenames. Tags are mapped to hashes so to avoid having to seek everywhere on spinning rust, then store the filename and location on top of millions of tag mappings (I think the public mapping database is 20+GB now, but nothing forces you to download it) images are stored and named by hash, you can't really get around it without making hydrus run even worse when you have 100k+ images to sort through. Also hydrus just moves and renames files, exporting doesn't change the file content.
>dupes tend to be the same size
That's the other thing, you should use another tool like https://doubles.sourceforge.net/ or dupeguru to remove exact duplicates before you start importing everything into hydrus. No reason to use a heavyweight tool for everything when you can get the easy part done more quickly.
>>20356
>Winrar objectively has a better compatibility ratio than its FOSS alternatives
For what, RAR5 archives? You can open those easily on lignux anyways. Can you think of any formats people actually use that need Winrar? You might as well tell some autist to switch text editors because it doesn't support some rare foreign language encoding from the 80s.
>muh update frequency
That's a very niggerlicious complaint, especially for a project which has seen 619 commits since the last release, runs really fucking well, and has more features than the average user will use.
>I do but it's PAID.
Only if you're a winnigger (which you are). It's free if you're a Linuxfag but from my experience with it on Windows, I'm not dumb enough to use that shit with anime. From my memory the made-up frames in 2D animation looked like complete ass most of the time, especially in action scenes, and it took a lot of tweaking to look acceptable. Maybe it's improved a lot since then, but I doubt it and it definitely isn't artifact-free.
>>mpv has a better motion smoothing
>Prove it.
For anime, definitely nice selective quote there, faggot. See, most anime rips are at 24hz but most computer monitors are 60Hz or higher. Trying to display 24fps video (well, not quite 24fps but pretty fucking close) on a 60fps screen results in some frames being displayed onscreen for longer than others, creating judder. How do you fix this? You could watch it on a real TV, or you could use motion-based interpolation like an absolute nigger who's never touched his TV settings. mpv can use motion-based interpolation if you install SVP, same as MPC-HC, but it also has a stupidly simple alternative: just blend between two frames and insert those where needed. The result is very smooth, artifact-free anime playback which retains the animation's timing in ways SVP and TV motion interpolation tend to mess up. I don't even need motion interpolation on a 144Hz screen because all a video player needs to render 24fps video smoothly is displaying each frame six times instead of the 2.5 times needed on a 60Hz screen.
>>20356
>Nearly a year.
You're a fucking retard, nobody with IQ above 80 calls half a year and 10 days "nearly a year". Your "approximation" is off by 90%.
>>20307
If all you need is find/delete identical files, just use fdupes. Easy to use, lightweight cli tool. It won't find visually similar but different images though, only exact copies.
>>20368
I've looked at some motion interpolation, but yeah, IMO it's fundamentally flawed. The frames that you see normally are those made by the animators and often lot of knowledge about anatomy/etc. goes into it. Trying fill in the missing pieces remotely correctly using computers is hard. And as it happens, our brain is pretty good at doing that.
It's a fun gimmick to play with in scenes where it works well, but that's about it.
>See, most anime rips are at 24hz but most computer monitors are 60Hz or higher. Trying to display 24fps video (well, not quite 24fps but pretty fucking close) on a 60fps screen results in some frames being displayed onscreen for longer than others, creating judder.
If I wasn't lazy, I could set my projector to the correct frame rate too, but then I'd have to look at what the video is and fiddle around in settings.
Actually, what's up with monitors only doing 60? Is it that hard to add 24/48 mode? The projector can do 24/30/50/60.
Replies: >>20378
>>20374
You might be able to force your monitor to run at 24Hz, but I can't guarantee it will work or not damage your screen. Mouse movement also feels like complete shit below 60Hz and I'd argue even 60Hz feels a lot worse than 75hz, which is where mouse movement on the desktop starts feeling really good.

DHT indexers have every torrent they've witnessed in the DHT, which is an optional but widespread part of the bittorrent standard. In practice this means almost every torrent to have been active during the indexer's lifetime, even torrents people created and added to their client and then immediately deleted.
nyaa.si also requires you have jewscript and solve the google captcha to make uploads, which is extremely painful. nyaa.net and tokyotosho.info don't.

Back when it was airing, one anon summed it up by saying something like "Bahamut is like Lodoss with Han Solo as the MC", and I think he nailed it. It has the charm and sense of adventure of old Game Arts RPGs like Lunar, a bit of Slayers' sense of humor, and a lovable asshole as the MC. The webm should give you an idea of what to expect.

By fantasy I'm assuming that european/tolkienic fantasy style.

Yeah, avoid the last 2 seasons of Slayers like the other anon said it. Even the movie Slayers Premium is pushing it but at least it's not as long as 2 entire TV anime seasons, everything else about the anime franchise is among the best anime ever. Make sure to also watch the OVAs and movies.
It's hard to dig up much in the genre, specially because isekai may seem similar but is very different. Even when the person excludes isekai because the general poor quality of the genre and would watch a good isekai.

There's another excellent fantasy anime that was made by the same guy who made Lodoss and was popular on 4chan's early days, Mahou Senshi Louie. It's also a novel adaptation and it's about a /fit/ dude who is a wizard.

Very good fantasy anime:
>Time Slip Ichimannen Prime Rose
>Dragon Knight (quality wish fulfillment)
>Legend of Lemnear
>Arslan Senki

Some of these may actually be good if you forget that they're about as generic as it gets or that nothing really happens. Or they're like Makyou Gaiden Le Deus where the skeleton of a plot is thrown into a short OVA and you're left with the fantasy boxes ticked off but not much else. All of them at least have something nice about them.
Medium to poor quality fantasy anime I've watched while digging for stuff:
>The Girl from Phantasia (does reverse isekai from a fantasy world count?)
>Panzer Dragoon
>Princess Minerva
>Capricorn
>Dragon Slayer The Legend of Heroes
>Dragon Century
>Majuu Senshi Luna Varga
>ARION
>Makyou Gaiden Le Deus

Fantasy anime I can't vouch for because I haven't watched them:
>Arc the Lad
>Maze Megaburst Space
>Anime Sanjushi
>Iron Virgin Jun
>Magicka
>Onna Senshi Efe & Jiira Guude no Monshou
>the Dragon Quest OVAs, Dragon Quest Abel for instance

>but I already saw the movie-
The movie only shares its opening minutes and a couple scenes with the manga, scenes placed in a different context. After that they split off from each other and go in very different directions, so different that he credits the manga with helping him realize Marxism is stupid and turning him into the blackpilled traditionalist he is today. If you don't mind lots of /k/ in your fantasy it's great stuff.

Legend of Lemnear was fantastic. I wish there was a manga. Regarding isekai, I will watch it (just finished Escaflowne, and that was better than I thought it would be, probably one of the best isekai around actually), I just prefer straight fantasy. There is just too much isekai, and too much of it is shit.

It's way too late in the evening to write at length about this, but I'm genuinely surprised how few people notice this. It's especially hard to miss if you read any of his manga or interviews. Seriously, neither of them are the kind of people to just keep condoms lying around. Arima can't possibly risk getting a freshman pregnant for his family relations alone. Yukino's family couldn't possibly afford another child. Yet, they did it in the spur of the moment. Sure you could say they just got a few on the way to Arima's place, yet they frame it as if they go straight to fucking. Is this question answered in the manga?

Easy enough with a shell.

I have no good resource about learning shell to recommend, I spent years autistically fighting it. The manuals are only reference manuals.
This task can also easily be done in Awk, for which there is the excellent "The AWK Programming Language" book which can be easily pirated from libgen. I actually read about 20 or so pages, dropped it, and knew all I wanted to know because the beginning clarified my years of picking up tidbits from it through other people's Awk scripts and stupidly trying to use the manuals as learning tools.

When I said "Magicka" I actually misspelled "Mozaicka". It's a fantasy anime I downloaded one day, never watched, and lost when I formatted the drive it was on. I think it's similar to dungeons and dragons, and there are other anime like that for sure, but I watched the others so long ago I don't remember anything.
You might get lucky searching anime indexes and lists for anything tagged "game", a lot of NES/SNES RPGs got anime adaptations. Even Chrono Trigger, there's an anime of that.

Quality fantasy anime:
>Kaze no Tairiku
>Dragon Half
Middling fantasy anime:
>Bakuretsu Hunters
>Tobira o Akete (the movie not the extremely short OVA for kids of the same name)
Some more quality anime that loosely fit "tolkienic fantasy":
>Greed
>Andromeda Stories
Quality fantasy isekais:
>Genmu Senki Leda
>El Hazard (the original OVA)
>Magic Knight Rayearth
>NG Knight Ramune (game isekai with mechas for kids set in a fantasy world, feels like the kind of thing that would have aired with Yu-Gi-Oh and Zatch Bell on kids' television)
Other fantasy anime I haven't watched yet:
>Ruin Explorers
>Azukachin ChaCha
>Mahoujin Guru Guru
>Robin Hood no Daibouken
>Andersen Douwa: Ningyo Hime

There's another fantasy isekai I haven't watched and don't actually remember the name of, all I remember is a brown girl kneeling with a sword on the cover and it's from the early 2000s. But I hear it was pretty good, might be worth finding.

Yeah, writing the scripts themselves isn't even the issue. Just trying to see if what I was planning to do wasn't already completely implemented elsewhere, so I don't end wasting time up reinventing the wheel.
That and knowing damn well the moment I start with the basic script, I'll be drawn into the black hole of autism with trying to even out the appearance of single cour series episodes with the 100+ episode series, and it will just snowball out of control from there.

>>25565
The general idea is to emulate a tv schedule, so the progress should be stored centrally, and no real extra info is required other than what episode was started.
No need to bother with this though, since I will be taking a crack at it myself eventually.
Replies: >>25615
>>25577
Chrono Trigger's OVA isn't actually an adaptation, and instead being a comedy involving the monsters having their own millennial faire. Probably why it's so enjoyable; hard to properly adapt a game that lasts for at least a few dozen hours in the space of a season, let alone one episode or movie, so it didn't bother to.
>>25578
It would be wise to avoid trying to make things too smart.
let SFF := series frequency factor (the higher it is, the more frequent the episodes will be)
let A := distance from last appearance of series in the program
if A = inf: let score := INT_MAX
else: let score := A*SFF
Then sort by score and series name (so that you have deterministic order for series with same score). SFF should default to something bigger than 1, so that you have the room to increase and decrease, and make it easily editable. If you want to stretch single cour series out, you could make the default dependant on number of episodes, but then you have the issue of season order or stuff (not) being in single folder, so you're gonna have to manually configure some stuff anyway. Best just make things easily configurable, rather than overcomplicated.

Here's something that's been on my mind for a while. How does King Crimson work, in the case of Narancia's death? Because the way it's framed is kind of how Dio does it with timestop, and having recently watching the anime there are a few times where KC seems to be pretty much time stop like Diavolo's reveal in the Colosseum(I don't remember this well but there wasn't a time skip during his reveal in the manga).
Replies: >>32367
King_Crimson.png
[Hide] (63.1KB, 1559x1808)
>>32362
Firstly you have to understand that KC's ability isn't to erase time but to 'phase projectiles in and out of existence'.

If you for example had footage of a car crash and 'erased' the time of the crash you would still be left with the same aftermath, that being two wrecked cars. But KC would leave both cars unharmed and they would've passed each other without a crash, KC phases projectiles out of existence and when the ability ends they pop back into existence (the clearest example of this is when Diavolo uses KC to avoid being gunned down by Aerosmith when he was busy with Metallica).

>there are a few times where KC seems to be pretty much time stop
When KC activates people continue the action they were doing just before the activation, so during it's ability they can't react to any new information which makes it seem like a time stop. Going back to the cars, assume that both drivers would see each other before the crash, brake, and thus avoid a crash. If KC activates before the drivers see each other both drivers would continue the action they were doing before KC activated. During KC's activation both drivers would continue driving without the ability to react to any new information they gain during KC's ability. For example during the first encounter with Diavolo Narancia was eating chocolate on the boat and he continued to eat them during the 'time skip', afterwards he had no recollection of eating the chocolate. He was essentially 'locked' in eating chocolates during KC.

In the case of Narancia' it was probably just a matter of timing it right, you'd have to pick him up and throw him into the spikes, he wouldn't be impaled until KC's ability deactivates (since he would count as a projectile).
Replies: >>32372
>>32367
But then I guess either KC and Divaolo are the only ones who are intangible in the duration of the time whatchamacall it or he can choose what can phase in and out because the end of the fight with Risotto he has the bullets phase through him but not Risotto.

It is though, clearly you don't post anything interesting enough to get banned. Some of us like making posts that aren't just "what is your opinion on X" and "post your waifu" and "[female character name]!" It's just boring and stale. So what, we get a few people who make absolutely garbage threads every now and then, big deal. If you start arbitrarily banning actually garbage threads then you eventually start banning borderline garbage threads and then the line between garbage and fun becomes completely blurred until you are identical to reddit/cuck/a/ and you have a completely sanitary, bland environment. Best just to delete spam/cp/posts that have absolutely nothing to do with anime and try to leave it at that. And off topic posts within a thread that are still tangentially related to the thread itself should be left for the sole reason that, once again, arbitrarily deleting things and banning people is a slipperly slope into a twitter like environment, which smug/a/ has no problem with considering they'll fucking ban you for forgetting a period at the end of your sentence.

I need to convert mkv to mp4 with minimum quality loss, what's the best solution considering I'm tech retarded?
Replies: >>41009
>>41005
Lazy solution:
Download ffmpeg, and then in console do this:
ffmpeg -i yourfile.mkv outputfile.mp4

Better solution:
Check what codecs this mkv uses for video and audio. mp4 can only use H264 codec for video, and AAC codec for audio, and mkv can use fucking everything. I'm on windows and I use mpc-hc codec that comes with K-Lite Mega Codec Pack, and I check which codecs video uses by opening video in mpc-hc, and doing file->properties.

Now you know if you need to reencode only video, only audio, both or nothing. Next download Avidemux, open your video in it. If video doesn't need reencoding, set video codec to copy, overwise set it to H264 or something like that. Set audio codec to copy or AAC. Set container format to mp4. Click save. Play with parameters if quality is shit. You can select only part of the video when choosing proper encoding parameters if your video is very long and you don't want to wait 2 hours on every try. Choose slightly slower encoding speed if you are patient, choose lower quality if you need video to be smaller, rest of parameters are magic.

Best solution:
Just send mkv. Put it in zip or something, and then send it. Fuck everything.

Codec nerd here. When most people refer to AAC they're referring to AAC-LC, or AAC low complexity. At certain bitrates, like 128kbps, it sounds fine, and it's generally considered the second best codec for audio (beaten only by opus). AAC low complexity to my knowledge adheres to the original standards set forth for encoding AAC and doesn't have any sort of shit added on to it, there have just been constant improvements to the encoders. It is therefore the least complex of the AAC family, making it easy to encode and decode quickly and with less power consumption.

The problem with AAC is that it starts to get pretty fucking abysmal (even compared to vorbis I believe) at low bitrates. So there's two additions to AAC: HE-AACv1 and v2. HE stands for "high efficiency" and is exactly what it sounds like: you try to make the audio sound good despite a ton of compression and a really fucking low bitrate. If you can get something to sound good at this bitrate, file size should be pretty tiny.

For bitrates around 64-96k you'll use HE-AACv1 which adds something called spectral band replication or SBR. Not going to bother explaining what it is, if you're interested in codecs you'll look more into this shit yourself. Often for things below 64k you use HE-AACv2, which has SBR coupled with parametric stereo (PS), adding to the complexity but also adding to the quality at a low bitrate.

If you play a HE-AAC file in a media player that doesn't support the SBR and PS extensions, it just doesn't play those parts and your audio sounds like fucking garbage so be careful. However I think most players accept HE-AAC stuff.

Replies: >>41045

It's just a container format made by Microsoft. Stands for "audio video interleave" if you care about that. It has some rather poor limitations by modern standards (limited codecs, no VBR audio iirc), and especially when compared to MKV which can even contain SSA subtitles. I think MKV's only real limitation is that AV1 implementation is in "beta" last I looked, whereas I believe MP4 was the first to adopt the codec officially. Overall though, MKV is what you want in current year.

I assume you mean lav not fav. That's the libav/ffmpeg AAC encoder. I guess this is gonna be a bit of a long post, so here we go.

AAC is not a free codec and is patent encumbered. H264 and H265 are the same in this respect. In order to encode and make encoder binaries for the codec, MPEG and other rights holders want you to pay up royalties. MP3 was the same way for a long time but recently the patents for it expired, which means that now with LAME (the MP3 encoder of choice) the entire thing is patent-free and open source. Basically you can now, in current year, you are free to encode and use MP3 for anything without any jewish legal drama.

AAC is still patent-encumbered and I don't know how long it will be, AAC-LC should become patent-free first sometime in the future, and a while after, the HE-AAC stuff will follow. AAC encoding is a bit of a fucking mess right now. The first FOSS encoder for AAC was FAAC if I'm not mistaken, and it is now considered by everyone to be poor quality and not worth using. For a while there was a closed-source (but freeware) Linux and Windows encoder made by Nero. You can still download it, people have mirrored it in a lot of places. It's now also considered to not be of the best quality, but it does support HE-AAC which I suppose is nice. Windows comes with an AAC encoder. There might be some encoding software for windows that uses the AAC encoder provided with Windows. I know nothing about it. There's an AAC encoder that comes with iTunes. Don't really know shit about that either.

Here's the stuff that you might actually want to use: first there's an encoder that comes with old versions of Winamp, FhG AAC. It's generally considered to be good quality, but Windows only (probably works in wine tbh). Supports VBR, HE-AAC, etc. Everything you need to use it can be gotten for free. You can extract the encoding libraries from an old version of Winamp, and there's a command line utility somewhere on github for making rather good quality AAC encodes. It's also pretty fast. Franhaufer (the same people who made FhG AAC) make FDK-AAC for Android, as google is paying the licensing for that. It's open source but has a nonstandard license and warns you that it is patent-encumbered and if you're not using it on Android it's illegal. There's some guy who forks the code from the android open source repo and gets the encoder to compile and work correctly on desktops. The problem is that due to it being patent-encumbered, they can't provide binaries so you have to compile it yourself. LAME had the same problem until MP3 lost its patents. Finally, there's an encoder provided with ffmpeg but they generally told people not to use it because it was trash quality. However, they claim that with time it has become acceptable quality but it does not support HE-AAC so if you do encodes you will probably want them to be higher bitrate, probably nothing below 128kbps.

Even though it's not perfect, I think FDK-AAC is generally considered the best AAC encoder and is what you probably should be using, even though it can be a bit annoying that you have to compile it yourself. Quality should be top tier, perhaps even the best, and it should be feature complete whereas the ffmpeg/libav encoder is not.

Sorry for tl;dr but whatever, that should explain everything. Here's a loli.
If you're actually interested in this stuff, this article is decent if you'd like to read more: https://wiki.hydrogenaud.io/index.php?title=AAC_encoders

Apparently ffmpeg/libav's encoder for AAC has shit support for VBR as well. So yeah I'd use FDK-AAC.
Replies: >>41075

ffmpeg can encode AAC with libfdk but because of its license it's not linked into official builds, you can install Gentoo and let its source-based package system compile ffmpeg with the library for you or figure out ffmpeg's shit build system.

Replies: >>41083

Just realized this can be mis-interpreted as sarcastic, I meant "kinda" literally. My post was meant to explain that there is a reason why there are currently two open-source encoders for AAC and why ffmpeg has their own encoder instead of using an existing one (FAAC is trash and FDK-AAC has the nonstandard license as mentioned) but I didn't explain that FDK-AAC can actually be used in ffmpeg. I should have maybe explained that.

Linux isn't necessarily the answer to everything, there are distros that use a lot of system resources and there are distros that do not. I was actually looking for lightweight distros recently to put on an old 32 bit computer nearing 2 decades old and noticed puppy linux dropped 32 bit support and was disappointed. However if your toaster is 64 bit you could try puppy linux, it's probably the most maintained distro made intentionally to try to be very resource light.

I just have to wade through an astounding amount of trash unfortunately, and my only alternative is a board that will ban me for saying "lol" even if I make an otherwise good post. However, when it comes to things like social media that the normalniggers use, I have no idea why someone here would want to use that, or even lurk that. Everything I can say about normalnigger social media has already been said: circlejerks, censoring because muh ebil wrongthink, etc. It wouldn't be a big deal admitting to using reddit because this one time you needed a fix for something and the first result was a reddit link, you got the fix and that was that. End of story. But actually staying for the community (which is what lurking implies) is another thing entirely. It's just a bunch of people patting each other on the back for eating the latest dose of shit, and the first person to question a single thing is met with bans, censorship, and software that helps mob rule hide the bad goys (such as putting wrongthink all the way at the bottom of the replies on reddit). If you are okay with that format, it's almost guaranteed safe to say that the person does not belong here. We're here to get away from that kind of shit.

The reason the imageboard format has prevailed is because there's no stake in any of it and your post is nameless (unless you namefag like a fucking idiot) with a tiny bit of metadata and that's it. The actual content is in the post itself. You can easily go against the grain and piss people off if you feel necessary, which encourages users to be more honest, which is why when actual discussions happen on imageboards they are the fucking best way to discuss absolutely any subject. You can even attach related media to your post. It skips right past all of the circlejerky unnecessary bullshit cuts right to the meat of discussion. The only problem is when people come in to shit it up because it's also extremely easy to be low-effort. That's the double edged sword of online socializing with little to no consequence, you get some nigger who doesn't understand the value of the site and the format and thinks it's cool to be as fucking retarded as humanly possible.

Sorry for tl;dr but I don't care.

I agree, however, I must say that while the "imageboard format" itself is fine (more or less), the major problem with 8chan (and this was criticized very early on, if you remember, or are aware), is that it was based off of reddit's create-your-own subreddit system, which encourages hugboxing and mob-mentality, which did happen, even if the site and leftovers are full of people who came since and after 2016.

Yeah, it's why I've never held the belief that you should moderate opinions. You should only moderate the topic at hand. When anyone can make a board, they can choose to moderate opinion if they wish, and it does indeed turn into a hugbox/circlejerk. The thing about moderating/censoring opinions is that it just isn't needed. Opinions will be tested naturally with discourse, arguments will be made, and the ones who can back up their claims and make the best arguments should end up prevailing anyway. It's also good to have your opinions tested to see if they hold up to scrutiny. Shielding yourself away from criticism does not help you; in fact it will only surely make you oblivious to better information, which is to your detriment. It also doesn't help you become better at having debates and making arguments, which I believe is an important skill if you like being sharp. It's no surprise why the left is an easy target, because the spaces they use (like reddit) are impossible to have debates in due to the format and the software. Even if you took the reddit format and made it a right-wing hugbox I would still hate it because of that reason.

Actually, you know what? I think it all started when I started watching Yosuga no Sora. I hadn't read the VN cause there wasn't a patch yet for translation. Now I am curious how that happened. Aside from her possible pairing(s), there was also that fantasy episode where she acted like a player and called the other girls her "little kittens", I think. It's certainly not like she ever acted weirded out by the gayness. Except when she was getting raped, of course.

The only reason to ever use tumblr was because some artists used it as their art blog, though most left after they added their "no NSFW" rule.

If you're new to linux you probably use windows and I'd be willing to guess you don't know what an init system is, what feature creep is, unix philosophy, etc. A lot of this is probably foreign to you and you just want a stable and usable operating system but don't want windows, which is understandable. For that reason, and you admitting to being new to linux, I'd probably recommend one of the big distros like mint or ubuntu. If you find yourself interested in technology and other distros, with time you will learn more about it and maybe you will discover a distro you like more and will be able to have reasons why you'd want to switch. If I were a newbie though I'd just want to use something that would have a lot of support for troubleshooting problems if they arise.

i understand the complaint about bloat, since it does a lot more then a traditional init, but i always figured the security concerns were overblown. it doesn't make sense to me how debian and canonical could be passing off inherently insecure software to enterprise and the whole internet hasn't come crashing down yet. of course vulns pop up from time to time and then get patched. but if systemd is so inherently insecure compared to other inits, how is it that so many servers run on debian and ubuntu?

I don't have one at the moment, I was throwing around the idea because I find myself disagreeing with a lot of the so-called "influencers" that currently exist on traditional sites and media (Especially the baizuo), and figured I'd start up my own thing to (At least) counter it or offer an alternative perspective. But, like I said, I was wondering if people even read that type of stuff anymore, especially when it seems like everyone makes videos these days.
>>43136
I don't really read or watch any "influencers," reviewers of mostly anything at all are generally smug midwit assholes who have nothing to contribute to society but I'd definitely give whatever you do a shot if you shilled it here. But I don't really know if I'm representative of your target audience. Just do what you want to do and have fun with it, anon.
>>43136
Like the previous anon I don't watch any influencers or read any anime blogs. Whenever I'm curious about some anime/manga/LN I just quickly skim through the reviews in sites like NovelUpdates and if I don't see anything I hate I'll add it to my backlog. I don't see the point of reading anime reviews on some blog when it's so easy to watch a couple of episodes on a free streaming site.
Games are a different matter, but video is a much better format for that.
>>43118
I suppose it depends on your style, both for writing and layout. I've found it comfy in the past discovering old "family and friends" style review sites for then-current RPGs and such, though usually they wind up 404ing in short order because people that ran it are seeing traffic and suddenly remembering they're paying for hosting and a domain they don't want to use anymore. That said, I found those sort of things more interesting as things to kill time with, rather than as actual "influences".

Not going to lie, I've thought of doing that sort of thing myself, really.
>>43136
I think most people prefer to listen to/watch content (in fact for the past few years there has been a video style that basically bombards the viewers with endless jarring cuts of information that I think is designed for short attention span people), but there will always be room for written content, which I am biased toward because it's my personal preference. At the end of the day if you don't enjoy doing it for its own merit then it's not worth doing.

I think I generally prefer "forbidden fruit" relationships if they're villains. In this case there is a tragic element when they inevitably die.
>>43026
I think for me, it was because her hinted yuri-ism is typically subtle at best, and her general innocence, along with the invisible Akarin gag, gave rise to the concept that she has herself against the world. The dream can be hand-waved away, since dreams aren't always about what we desire one-for-one; it could be interpreted that her mind had overcompensated her desire to be noticed by her friends, and instead of seeing her as equals, it had them worship her. Besides that it didn't occur early on and I hadn't read the source material.

Probably shouldn't have said that and left the thread, so I'll elaborate more. Lurking was perhaps the wrong word, what I meant was you have to really dig around the entire site to ever find anything of value. As with any site, you've got to find the darker corners of it to find where the good content is posted. You'll never find anything of value (or at least it will be incredibly hard to find anything of value) in the most popular tags/subreddits because most fags congregate their for desperate attempts at internet fame. Like it's been said, Tumblr is very good for artists and the occasional blog, and I find the best way is to specifically search what you are after. When you find an artwork you like, take a look at the tags and whether or not it's OC. If it's OC, check out what else the user posts; take a note of the tags and keep searching. You'll be able to build up a bigger picture of relevant tags and you'll soon be able to see which tags are mainstream (and therefore most likely to be filled with shit) and which tags are more specific and oriented towards a particular theme or topic. Tumblr did kill itself by banning NSFW because there were a lot of good artists that were forced off-site. No idea where they went (Twitter perhaps?) and I wasn't that invested to care.

Reddit is a completely different kettle of fish. You aren't always going to find a particular subreddit exists for a topic of your choice, or if it does exist there is a large chance it's just a circlejerk. Which brings me to my next point - to understand how Reddit works you have to understand the users. They're there to accumulate 'points' and will post whatever they think will get them that, so you'll see constant reposts and hivemind, circlejerk behaviours are inherently part of Reddit's core. That can be somewhat useful if you find Q&A subreddits on specific topics like fixing tech problems because it's an almost Pavlovian response for Redditors in these places to be as helpful as possible in order to get their points. It's also good as a news aggregator for a similar reason, but remember the news you're seeing is only what the community wants you to see (useful for finding out recent news/happenings for within a hobby but completely useless for anything politically related). With this in mind you should browse Reddit similarly to 8chan; combing through tags, looking for related boards or just typing in what the most logical sounding name is in the address bar. Piracy is one of the best reasons to dig around Reddit because despite all the brand loyalists and consumers, there's a somewhat dedicated piracy scene though I think it's only a matter of time before they get b& as Reddit keeps pushing to become the new Facebook. Reddit is good for NSFW stuff too and most posts tend to provide sources for the artists/name of pornstars if you like that sort of thing. Also if you try any mainstream or popular subreddit, always filter by newest rather than most popular as it helps remove some of the faggotry and avoid discussion boards like the plague.

I don't own an account for either of these sites and it's not essential to have one, though you may be interested in a Tumblr account for following artists.
I hate lurking. I am already read only almost everywhere, even on fucking 4chan. I don't want to listen to those who aren't willing to listen to me as well.

Most don't give a shit about undergrads either, so expect them to be routinely late from their pointless research labs and meetings. Expect average exam scores in the 60s because the circuit in the exam was completely different from the circuit in the key, but the Pakistani TA doesn't know the difference, so naturally everyone got it wrong, but don't worry, there isn't a curve in the class and exams count towards an absurdly high percentage of the class. Same with vidya and VNs, anything less than the medium length on vndb automatically gets filtered out regardless of quality.
I can easily watch movies if I put them running on a playlist in the background with other shit, and passively build up interest to start properly paying attention.
>>46774
Similar for me, but probably not quite what you're getting at. I can watch a movie with little issue when I start one, but even just starting it takes a lot of effort on my part. Might be in part due to a preference toward actual series having more time to better develop a cast, world, and story, and for the viewer to get invested into it, while movies have to compress or abridge everything (similar to OVAs, really). Which isn't to say that all TV series use their time effectively, or that there aren't anime films that I wound up enjoying, but still.

>>46814
Watching with someone actually decent can indeed help with enjoyment. After all, anons do like to discuss what they watch/read/play among themselves. But I don't really think that reactions or commentary should be the main reason one sits through anything. Rubs me the wrong way, like a given work only has social merit as opposed to being enjoyable or interesting in its own right.
Is there a reason why Episode 6 of Gankutsuou feels a lot more fluidly animated than the previous 5 or was I just somehow not paying much attention to the other episodes? Does that trend continue, I really like how expressive the characters feel now.

Okay, I noticed there are some /tech/savvy people on here. I already mentioned some of this in another thread and maybe someone can help me out. So, I bought this PC I am currently using with Windows 10 pre-installed and was unable to install Windows 7 on the hard drive that it was installed on, whenever I tried. I also have my old hard drive inserted into the PC which does have Windows 7 already installed on it, but I am unable to boot from it. Does this mean my PC is simply not compatible with Windows 7 or is there some way to fix this so that I can use 7 after all? I would prefer to be able to boot from my old drive rather than re-install the OS, if that is possible, because that contains all my old shit (anime, reaction images, software etc.) anyway.

I have also been thinking of dual-booting Ubuntu ever since I bought this thing but the time that it may take to get everything working and get used to the new OS kind of puts me off. I'm also worried about the lack of support for geimus but I guess I'd be able to dual-boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu if I get the former running.

It depends on the hardware. AMD's Ryzen CPU line won't work with Windows 7 without a special program installed first that's easy to find online. Not sure about ((( Intel ))) but they probably have some secret tricks in their hardware. Most likely, knowing ((( Intel ))), they will be harder to circumvent.

Booting from your old drive won't fix the hardcoded restrictions with your PC's hardware preventing Win 7 from installing, and using the old drive with the old installation can cause worse problems than simply installing from format because you have all the drivers and such you have to deal with that are incompatible with the new hardware.
I would still start learning to love Linux if I were you, because Windows is not getting any better and you can only hold onto Win 7 for so long before it becomes a compatibility and security liability. You could argue it already is because we have the source code for Win XP and all the glorious junk that comes with it.

>>33749
Considering their moderating practices and 'no fun allowed' attitude, I would compare /a/ more to reddit and not at all to cuckchan.
>>54674
>the beginnings of /animu/ was an exodus of /a/
When did that happen? /a/ posters had always looked down on /animu/ and most of the original users were people who wanted to talk about anime but didn't want to use /a/ due to their cancerous mods and bootlicking culture.

Actually it depends
>Zen1(all 1xxx except 1200AF and 1600AF, APU 2xxx) and Zen+(1200AF, 1600AF, CPU 2xxx, APU 3xxx)
Put the drive you want to install it on into an old PC that supports 7 officially(I used an Ivy Bridge laptop). Start the installer, proceed until last reboot(it's been years so I don't remember how many there are), turn off the old PC with the power button when it starts up, take the drive out, put it in the Ryzen PC and complete the install there using a PS/2 keyboard/mouse. Apparently you can preconfigure unattended install to work too but I never tried that. You'll need to install motherboard drivers for any USB(even 2.0) or Ethernet ports to work, I just booted Artix off a USB stick and used that to download them.
>Zen2(CPU 3xxx, all 4xxx, 5300U, 5500U and 5700U)
Either the special program or BIOS modding is needed.
>Zen3(all 5xxx except three mentioned earlier)
Even with both it's a shitshow apparently, with many not recommending it.

But yeah, like you said online Win7 is a liability, I keep mine offline and browse on aforementioned laptop with Artix.

Yeah and before that I think the majority of us posted on /a/ but hated their rules so we went to animu, I used animu exclusively before 8chan died but on the webring I now use both. /a/ has seem to have relaxed themselves somewhat as I haven't been banned on there once since it became smug and I write pretty terrible posts sometimes. Also, how can you know for certain, as you claim, this has not happened? Since you aren't aware of it happening most of the time? It's not like deleted posts are being tracked by some monitoring 24/7 archive. How can you claim it doesn't happen? What gives you the confidence?

Even japan had obscenity laws/guidelines in the 80s (look at how Hokuto no Ken was censored when it was adapted into anime). Since it didn't pass those it was barred from receiving an EIRN number for theatrical exhibition. It wasn't so much "banned" as it was never given an official theatrical release, hence why its director always showed the film as part of some carnival show.

The real question is how some French distributor got the approval to put it out on DVD after the director said it wouldn't be on home video ever.

I know it's been half a year since you answered that question, but I want to ask what non-niggerlicious resources for EE/CE you can recommend. I'm currently trying to remotivate myself to learn programming in C with Classes and eventually Assembly, but I happen to be terrible with the hardware side of things, and I want to rectify that .
You know there is a programming thread in /geimu/?

The Art of Computer Programming (TAOCP) by Donald E. Knuth -- if you want to go in depth into data structures or algorithms.
Just read on what data structures C++ provides if you value your time instead. C++ stl is pretty shit, but will still serve as a good overview.
http://flatassembler.net/docs.php?article=manual -- read this if you want to learn assembly. Also use ollydbg. Also read /geimu/ thread, there was a link on how to cut runtime out of your executables. Also fuck assembly, the only time you will really need that is inside a image/video/audio decompressing routines and other such numbercrunching, and even there SSE is often done with intrinsics instead. Also fuck C and C++ for having such limited calling conventions that underuse registers. Fuck everything. Fuck assembly again for there are now architectures that are more energy efficient than x86 and x64, but I know nothing about them, something arm something raspberry pi something nes processor something.

>What's so fucking hard about the word strength that all of these dogshit translators have to write it as "strenght"?
Probably because they're typing too fast. But really, it's also something on the proofreader (if there is any) and typesetter (if it's the not the same person as the translator) to also catch as additional lines of defense against typos. Personally, I think the ones with the worst excuse are those who translate and typeset at the same time, since they may not have the benefit of an automatic spellchecking utility that a proper text editor program would easily allow for.

Bigger question is why there seem to be so many fuckers using scanlation as practice for their ESL classes, considering how badly mangled their English chapters are for a native speaker to read, and/or how it slips past anyone else proofreading (if there even is anyone handling that role).

>>74990
>Why is The Wild Fag project the only niggers who have translated the initial chapters of Hanma Baki?
Because you aren't doing it yourself. Really, if you want something like this done then you need to start it up yourself. Look in large, normalfag circles to find people willing to help. learn to import, scan, and edit manga yourself so at least you can just pay a translator for a script if you must scanlate yourself. We have buyfag threads to inform you have to import. We have scanning threads to show you how to scan. We have scanlators to show you how to edit and format.

I was about to scanlate Front Mission Dog Life; Dog Style myself only for someone else to pick it up right after I imported the whole series (only cost me $20 after buying it second hand). If I did this sooner, I could have at least provided the scanlator a better raw to work with.

People talk about streamers and parasocial relationships all the time, but here's a thought: are video essay/analysis makers a sort of friend substitute?
Think about it. 99% of the time, unless he's like Kenny Lauderdale digging up extremely obscure anime, a video essayist is just saying stuff you'd hear from friends or random imageboard posters. If you watch shit with friends or discuss anime on imageboards, you have no need for the average video essayist; chances are, you'll come up with more interesting ideas while speculating or shitposting with each other. The only thing the video essayist has that you don't is subscribers and (maybe) some basic video editing skills.
Obviously this doesn't matter too much to the average anon, as most of us (hopefully) don't watch anime youtubers, just thought I'd run this by you fags.
>>81352
Except, unlike an actual friend, I don't need to listen, or in any way be invested in whatever it is that the video essayist is presenting to me.
And most importantly, there is no interaction between us, so no illusion of contact and no grounds for a parasocial relationship.
Also, last but not least, the maximum extent of what he can scam out of me is a few minutes of noncommittal half-attention and a single youtube view (if youtube even counts views from freetard frontends), which is barely worth anything to me.

The whole "friendship simulator" argument in regards to watching videos has always seemed absolutely retarded to me. You don't think a talk show host on TV is a friend, why the hell would it be any different for some idiot with a youtube channel? You don't directly interact with any of these people.
In regards to streaming however that is full on friendship simulator because lonely faggots will pay them money to say shit or play some gay audio quip no one will remember seconds after it plays. All for the sake of some hollow connection to someone else because actual friends are unobtainable to whoever does this sort of shit and they are incapable of adapting to loneliness.

>You don't think a talk show host on TV is a friend, why the hell would it be any different for some idiot with a youtube channel?
I'm not sure, but the medium is fairly different from TV even though both want to waste your time and shower you with ads. So how do people have parasocial relationships with Youtubers? Beats me, but somehow they manage.
>>81370
That's the best way of going about it, and that basic standard alone rules out most video essayists because they're digging up stuff you could just as easily find on Wikipedia and giving basic bitch commentary on it.

I had a thought with some letsplayers (jon era gamegrumps specifically), that, when I had a friend, we acted pretty much like those two, and were probably even funnier. So I guess that's true to an extend.

There are multiple kinds of video essays. The ones where person just records himself talking, without even any script even, because he's too lazy to talk. The ones where video montage isn't very related to what he's talking. The ones where video is used to show what he's talking about. The ones where video is full of all kinds of visual gags. Last two categories are incredibly good. Jontron videos when Barry was his editor are extremely good, I think Barry was the real star of the show. Mandalore Gaming / Sseth are pretty good, though they probably slowly sliding down in quality. Bob Ross' Game Dungeon is an amazing review source. Guns of Evangelion by Revolution of Eva is a very very good review, though it's more of a slideshow. AVGN / Nostalgia Critic, is there anyone who doesn't know those? Speaking of Nostalgia Critic and the crew around him, Linkara, Nostalgia Chick, Spoony's Experiment, Todd in the Shadows, that one guy who reviewed japanese eroge I forgot the name of were pretty good. Krystallize makes review of porn games on youtube, can somebody find where he uploads uncensored versions of his videos?

Most of those guys were "Hey, are you too lazy to kill multiple hours / weeks on this boring movie / game? Well, aren't you lucky, because I'm going to suffer for you and give you an abridged version". Game Grumps letsplay is the only video series I ever thought of as "friends.mp4". Funny thing is, I think they actually somewhat hated each other, which probably actually made those vids even more entertaining. I think all friends somewhat hate each other, just a theory I have. I recommend their "Chulip" letsplay, sonic 06 letsplay, and that game about a girl with a sentient scarf playstation game.

>Goes and kisses Kamina instead
>Simon is ruined
>they lose Kamina later on because Simon can't fight properly
>right after all this, she still gets jealous of Simon when Nia shows up
>show continues like Yoko isn't a bitch and deserves to act annoying
>i literally cringe and groan when the possibility of Yoko showing comes, which is soo fucking often
>Yoko finally fucking disappear
>Her disappear ends with a character arc, which i won't watch
I don't care if she stops being a attention seeking whore, i have never seen a female sidekick be soo horrible. I thing i have only 3 hours of watching left. I was rooting for Kamina/Yoko until Yoko raised soo fucking many flags for Simon. She was flirting with Simon literally before she kisses Kamina. Nia was perfect for Simon, she was kind towards him unlike anyone else and she becomes a messanger for anti-spirals soo the onyl good sidekick is gone too.

You are a retard.
I hope you aren't that fag who just showed up on 8moe to sperg out about how "cucked" he was because you sound as autistically stupid as he is.
Yoko is not perfect obviously and she makes mistakes, but her "flirting" with Simon was never remotely serious, she clearly was into Kamina since the beginning, whereas Simon was merely just a cute kid to her, not an actual love interest and this should be clear by her behavior towards him.
Simon misinterpreted this behavior and started falling in love with her.
Was she partially to blame for this? yes, but Simon couldn't control himself either.
>jealous of Simon
She was jealous in that he had a great and special relationship with Kamina that she couldn't understand fully until later, but that's about it.
You completely remove Simon's will from the equation.
Simon was not "entitled" to Yoko just because of a few signs that could easily be misinterpreted.

>Nia
Yeah, Nia was perfect for Simon, but you holding spite for Yoko is the sign of childish immaturity.
>attention-seeking whore
My goodness, no shit she was in a very specific circumstance.
A woman's desirability is important to her, just as a man's strength and usefulness is important to him.
You have all this shit to talk about Yoko when her own place was unsteady and in a time of grief where she felt people might not value her beyond her body (and even that was taken from her), but you forget how awful the rest of the Gurren Brigade treated Simon.
Yoko had the wrong idea about how Simon should recover because she herself was in grief, but everyone else literally treated Simon like garbage, did you forget what everyone, including Kittan, called his Lagann?
They called it garbage, trash, and they treated Simon just like it. They had no faith or expectations in him.

Do you hate the rest of the Gurren Brigade for that? In that specific moment, I wouldn't have blamed you for being angry with them, but you either conveniently ignore that fact to shit specifically on Yoko as if nobody else was in the show.
Simon made his own mistake, Yoko contributed to that likely inadvertently.
Yoko is a flawed individual, and so is Simon, but that doesn't make them awful people.
I mean fuck, did you forget who it was who actually saved Simon in the second half while he was languishing in a prison cell waiting for the apocalypse?
What the actual fuck is wrong with you, do you honestly lack empathy so much that once someone is wronged a single time (in this case accidentally wronged if that, and its not like you can control the love of someone else), that they deserve to be hated forever?

I can't believe this, I honestly believe your post is genuinely too retarded for this thread.
I have rarely seen someone with so entitled and selfish a perspective, outside of women on twitter.
I guess the fact that Yoko never married for the rest of her life and dedicated herself to raising children and orphans didn't prove her love for Kamina was genuine, and the fact that she was willing to fight against a literal world-ending threat, rescue Simon, and go against the regime who betrayed Simon and tried to screw him over means nothing, right?

Honestly, my fucking goodness.
What the fuck man, seriously reconsider that something might be wrong with you if your real-life perspective on people is anything like your perspective on anime characters.

Don't fry your brain on ib drama, literally noone but you will remember them and cause a disillusion that you are fighting one person in several threads, which is never the case.
>her "flirting" with Simon was never remotely serious
Until the night before Kamina dies, i thought that too but her going to Simon to say literally nothing except "something important"(which is anime way of a failed confession) changed my mind, if that didn't happen and Yoko just went to Kamina Simon wouldn't be ruined like he did.
>She was jealous in that he had a great and special relation with Kamina
I said jealous of NIA, you didn't interpret it because that other "sperg" is still in your head and you didn't get over arguing with him.
>you holding spite for yoko is the sigh of childish immaturity
get over that sperg before you call other people childish
>A woman's desirability is important to her
That doesn't make her any better, literally no other women was as attention seeking(while bitching for the attention) as she was in the show, you are fighting against the way writers wrote her like. She was jealous of other men's attention, she wasn't loyal nor didn't love Kamina as much as you said she does. She was literally written that way, writer decided she would be that way.
>Do you hate the rest of the Gurren Brigade
They were not as important as Yoko, she was one of the main cast and she was as bad towards him as all of the crew. I don't like most people in the crew because they aren't as explored, Yoko was and she sucked.
>did you forget who it was who saved simon
literally last episode i watched, her doing something doesn't mean she is a great character, she does a lot of things because writers like her on the screen and her doing a lot of things only made her worse. The great example of this was a scene where Simon was laying on the deck and Nia comes to talk with him. It was such a nice and relaxing scene, a broken guy and a eccentric girl having a convo, then Yoko comes and scolds him for not eating properly, it ruined the "cozy corner in hell" vibe the scene was giving, not because they wanted to portray it like everything is hardcore in this world but because they wrote the eyecandy as a annoying character and they must show the eyecandy.

Holy fuck what a waste of trips
You can't see past your own fucking nose and dick dude, either get some help or fuck off since you might be beyond it.
You interpret everything in ways that only an utterly spiteful person would. Yoko wanting Simon to eat expresses concern for his well-being, she mends her relationship with Nia and Simon, and overcomes her own insecurities and the pain of loss as well to help them both in the future when they need it.
>her doing something doesn't mean she is a great character, she was just written that way
Wow, I'm impressed anon.
She can only be evil because you say she's evil, but if she does anything good, its the writers cheating and making her look better than she is.
You hate Yoko because you're autistic.
She saved both Simon's and Nia's lives at different and multiple points in time and at least helped be part of the efforts for when she wasn't the main one, but she interrupted him one time when he was talking with Nia, what a bitch, right?
Totally not a problem with you, its all Yoko's fault, what a vile fucking bitch.
>Kittan wasn't as important as Yoko
>the entire Gurren Brigade combined wasn't as important as Yoko
lolwut, you are literally finding excuses for people who treated him worse than Yoko did at that point in time.
Moreover, you didn't pay attention to the fact that Yoko, this supposed vile attention whore, spent most of her time being alone on the back of the boat while everyone else is with each other before and even after saving Nia's life, but Nia, unlike you, recognized that Yoko has a good heart and is someone worth befriending.
You view extremely petty infractions as more telling of a person's character than life-saving deeds. Something is wrong with you.
Moreover, Nia, at the start, did not fully understand what was going on with Simon, to the point of thoughtlessly shit-talking Kamina's death and hurting a completely broken Simon. until Yoko spoke up on his and Kamina's behalf, tears in her eyes.
Did this mean Nia was somehow a bad person? Of course not, but she had to be made aware of the weight of what she was saying and what was really going on. Nia was very much oblivious as to what was going on at that point in time, and made a greater effort to understand Simon and everyone after that point and actually understood them.
Something you could stand to learn from.

I always interpreted it as Simon being a little kid with a crush on an older big booba girl who saw him more as a little brother and that it was intended as part of Simon's growth as a character since that's not exactly an uncommon thing for young boys to go through and when it happens the boy can either be a mopey cunt about misreading someone's intentions and never get over it or move on and learn from the mistake.

They probably wanted to give that childhood crush mc gets over arc but because she is addicted to male attention, she flirts with Simon as much as she flirts with Kamina. At first episodes Simon didn't see Yoko as a potential romance, her constant flirting changed that.
All this is absolutely unrelated to the main issue thought, this is anime, i am not a nolife weeb that tries to prove i am rightious by my opinions about anime, i watch anime 2 b hapi. Yoko is annoying as a fictional character because anything good she does could be carried by anyone else, boring to watch things she does could only be done by her and as i said she does a lot of things. There could be just no love triangle if she wasnt flirtious, there could be more Nia/Simon if she wasn't present in every scene, Simon could get over his depression by help from his old friends throguth friendship(which would be infinity times better than a random girl coming in to save him from depression), there could be more giant robots fighting if she weren't constantly shooting, someone could just save Simon from prison without a character arc OR Simon could get out himself(which i still don't know if it was good), there could be more things but i won't watch it to prove it.
It isn't some great moral argument about dating pool or some shit, Yoko isn't a fun character to watch and she appears whenever we have a possibly cozy scene.

Replies: >>84696
>>84689
If it's cropping/padding, it's a single row of pixels and I haven't noticed it so far.
Regarding time, SVT-AV1 is much better at using multiple cores and threads. Using an 8 core and 16 thread cpu I can normally get 4.5fps on an anime episode at -preset 3, though I normally have 2 enconding at the same time at 3fps each.
I don't remember the exact numbers, but using the reference encoder was miserable and I had to leave that shit running overnight to get anything done.

eh, not really, it encodes offsets in seconds, while mp4 encodes offsets in frames. Because of that, mp4 mostly deals with integer numbers, while mkv (and webm by extension) uses long imprecise floating point numbers. I think mp4 is just better designed overall.

Honestly, don't be overly preoccupied with nuanon spergs who care more about what software and file formats you use instead of the OC itself. The majority of these faggots make absolutely nothing of value, not even basic image edits (otherwise the webring would be absolutely overflowing with OC), and compensate for it by yelling at anons who do. It's not even the brutal, honest criticism anons are known for either, since that requires looking at the OC itself: it's the anon version of shrill leftist protestors who screech at and inconvenience the world instead of living better themselves.
As for your OC, something about the ending feels unsatisfying and incomplete, and it's kind of like you've given a setup with no payoff. Depending on how the rest of the song goes, I'd suggest either replacing or adding on to the final shot with a quickly cut version of the siblings' fight.
This reminds me, I just installed a video editor and should fuck around with it today. I've made a couple shitty webms by fucking around with ffmpeg and audacity, but doing almost anything beyond adding music to webms or images requires I learn some kind of conventional video editor.

I'll take /geimu/ fag over /hgg/ or /animu/ or /d/ fags any time, much better moderation in my experience. Seems /animu/ fag finally got bored of you about as much as I did, so I can finally breathe somewhat. Maybe I'm just more calm over there because there is no furry or corruption of champions threads there.

If somebody wants to discuss video compression some more, there is a thread about video editing on /geimu/, though I hid that thread because it was just stream announcements over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. Not like there is much to discuss there, just use mp4 when you can, optimize for web when you can, don't upload videos in stupidly large resolution if your video isn't too text or detail heavy on imageboards. Or not, do all of those, because I reward those with reaction. Why don't I respond more to posts I actually like. It's kind of like "don't touch if it works".

Is this how JoJo is from now on? A shitty fanfic slice of life?

I just want to watch some good fucking gritty action anime, god damn.

Part 4 is a slice of life style "weird things happen in this town" thing, it has its moments of seriousness with the Killer Queen guy, but that doesn't really start happening until halfway through and honestly there's some very annoying elements about that later on with the kid

As the other anon said part 4 is much more SoL and the anime had the worst animation style out of all the adaptations so far. None of the parts are similar to 1 or 2 but I'd say part 5 is a bit similar to part 3, part 6 less so but it's closer to 3 and 5 than 4. I'd recommend to read part 4 instead of watching it as the budget took a nose dive half-way through or just to skip it. 5 has no SoL and is full-on action and 6 is almost the same iirc. Part 7 is great and in my opinion better than part 3 but the anime adaptation isn't coming until at the earliest 2024.

4 and 6 aren't really "adventure" focused, but 4 goes from slice of life to supernatural murder mystery in the 2nd half. The 1st half also has a bunch of subtle buildup to the main plot of the 2nd half though.
5 goes back to actual adventuring, but it's located entirely within Italy like how part 1 is all in the UK. I also really fucking hated the anime adaptation, it made me lose interest in the series entirely.
I haven't seen the anime adaptation for 6, but it's easily the worst part, of the manga imo, everything about it is completely lackluster. I haven't read part 8 yet though so maybe that one is worse.
Part 7 is on par with part 2 and 3, it was very fun to read and I really hope the anime doesn't turn out to be a shitfest.

The KKK discovered that Weather was part black so they lynched him, I think Weather (unknowingly) being in an incestuous relationship with a girl that looked white also had a part in it. Don't think they gave a specific reason as to why Pucci wasn't attacked, but he was a priest at that time so they might've not wanted to lynch him for that. And it's not like the KKK would have the time to lynch any negro they saw.

Probably some quartz byproduct used as filler. Pre-greated cheese sold in stores has a good amount of sawdust(cellulose) as an 'anti-caking agent' and is discernable from fresh grated cheese.
Most processed food has all sorts of chemical and industrial byproducts in it. Breakfast cereal use metal shavings that are ground to iron powder to give the cereal its 'needed' iron content, along with most corn chips like doritos. The issue is that the form of iron they use is not bioavailable/soluble and just sits in your body until either you die and it returns to the earth or becomes cancer.
Calling basic health stuff schizo is a bad look, onii-fam

>>94924
Avoid commie and Dmonhiro, but usually an anime doesn't have more than one group so it's usually not an issue. If you do have two groups I just download both and see which doesn't cut information away. For example, the newest Bleach anime has two groups one of which translated a sentence which included korosu (殺す) as 'Do you want to die?' and the other as 'Do you want to be killed?'. I chose the latter as they didn't change the sentence too much (but I went back to the former fansub since the latter turned out to be too autistic in how they translated).
Replies: >>95650
>>94924
You basically have to understand encoding enough to discern which are bad encodes, or understand enough Japanese (short of actually speaking it) to discern which are bad subs. And then, after giving groups enough chances, you learn who is bad and avoid them entirely. There's no one solution, the more you know, the better you can pick out the release to watch.

For instance, if you download a DVD release, you can safely dismiss any 640x480 encode because the people who made it clearly have no idea what they're doing. This is because a NTSC DVD's resolution is 720x480 4:3 (rectangular pixels), and to get the encode to play at the correct aspect ratio, you have to either tag it properly or stretch it to a resolution that would be 4:3 with square pixels. If you stretch it horizontally, you get 640x480, and if you stretch it vertically, you get 720x540. The problem with stretching horizontally is that this is downscaling, and downscaling is much more destructive than upscaling. Someone who doesn't understand this and makes an encode of a DVD not only made a huge fuck up, but certainly made many others. A DVD should either be kept at the original resolution or upscaled to the nearest resolution that makes it the right aspect ratio.

There are also groups and individuals who consistently make really bad encodes. These are LowPower-Raws, Kagura, Moozzi2, SSP-Corp, U2 internals, sxales, among others.

Additionally, I just watched an anime called Mini Yon Soldier Rin, and one of the characters said "hand power" (in English), but there was no "hand power" in the subtitles. This is just one instance of the same thing all over the sub. There are translators who have a really bad and very much incorrect mindset in translating, in that instead of translating the lines, they make up their own lines that loosely fit the general idea of the original text, and they think they're making the line more natural this way. So now I know that LonelyChaser is to be avoided. Unfortunately, it's often the only individual (the "group" is just one guy) who subtitled a series, as he picks out old series that were never subitled and makes a sub.

And then there are the groups who make bad subs, for instance, Commie as mentioned by >>95619. Commie likes to add "meme lines" to subtitles, there are many shitty groups that do this, they just decide not to translate a line and write down an original "joke" of their own instead.

Read the manga of Osamu Tezuka (Astro Boy, Kimba, Black Jack), Shotaro Ishinomori (Cyborg 009, 8 Man, Kamen Rider), and Leiji Matsumoto (Space Battleship Yamato, Captain Harlock, Galaxy Express 999) and it should bring you up to speed on the overwhelming majority of anime references. I blame majority of that on the teachers and education boards, especially those in high schools. To use perhaps the most common example, no one actually cares what a "dangling participle" is, so why is time wasted to teach people about it? Why am I required to look for the "symbolism" that exists in a very literal autobiography? Why am I required to restate the same sentence, three times, each time using a thesaurus to find the longest words possible to make myself sound intelligent when the point of what I'm stating could just as easily be made by talking like Tarzan?

What we should be doing in English class is teaching people to speak English. Teach people to talk in public, deliver presentations, communicate. Not read through centuries old texts could be tossed into the trash because of how long winded they are in trying to make a point.

IIRC Japan's literature classes are still conservative and they still read their literary canon, unlike other countries that exchange older literature for more popular young-adult books.
>>97837
There are two problems, one is that kids aren't reading literature that had an important role in their country's history and the second is that kids are reading less and less. Education boards (or whoever is in charge) are usually are more worried about the second issue and gleefully switches out the 'boring' stuff for the Hunger Games or whatever is popular at the time. But even then you'll still have kids that aren't interested in whatever book the teacher picked out, so there's no consistent trend upward in regards to the reading rates.

>There are two problems, one is that kids aren't reading literature that had an important role in their country's history
No, we're reading "literature that had an important role in their country's history". The only catch is that it's literature designed to guilt trip us about our "white privilege", everything from "Peaceful Injun" narratives like The Light in the Forest to "nigger experience" narratives like A Raisin in the Sun and Fredrick Douglas. Instead of, you know, pulp novels like Red Harvest or The Curse of Capistrano, WWII literature like Mister Roberts or The Caine Mutiny, culturally relevant material like A Princess of Mars or The Virginian, native philosophers like William James or Ralph Waldo Emerson, or even internationally renowned American stories such as those found in The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon. Even the reading we did of Huckleberry Finn was completely controlled to talk exclusively about how much the novel uses the word "nigger".
>and the second is that kids are reading less and less.
Gee, I wonder why. Especially when half of any English class is reading poems.

Poetry is irrelevant outside of the context of music, where stanzas need to exist in order to retain the beat and prevent interruption (Which is true from simple ballads to pop to metal to everything). I can respect music, but poetry I cannot.
>and whines that one of history's most revered dramatists is lowbrow trash

No, it has been noticed. You can make a case that poetry isn't "useful" anymore now that we've outsourced our memories to computers and the internet, in much the same way exercise isn't "useful" to a landwhale with a mobility scooter. Chances are, that landwhale also sees fitness as some arbitrary way of signalling you're better than someone rather than something with joys, benefits, and higher significances of its own. So it is with poetry, but worse, as everything I say will sound like gobbledygook because it's so fixated on subtleties and saying the unsayable, even though it was beloved by peasants and one of the two main shitpost mediums for most of man's history.
>>97987

Yeah, trying to get people into literature, drama, or especially poetry by dissecting it is backwards. You get to know something by participating in it and maybe learning some preliminary things, depending on what it is, you cultivate a love and taste for it, and THEN you study it as a deepening of that love instead of picking it apart like a corpse on the autopsy table.

I mainly read it because I enjoy it rather than autistically fixating on its benefits, kind of like how you (hopefully) enjoy music, but very well.
For one, reading poetry is a huge boon to your reading comprehension, especially if it's read aloud. Writing was made to record speech, and was primarily read aloud for much of human history. The two cannot be fully seperated. Even when you read silently, your tongue is making tiny, near-imperceptible movements as part of the reading process. In light of that connection, no shit getting into a form that's all about bringing out the subtleties and patterns of speech will make you a more attentive prose reader; it's kind of a given.
Supposedly it also helps your memory a lot if you get into memorizing it, but this I can't confirm as I haven't really gotten into that.
I can also confirm that a lot of knowledge from poetry carries over to YTP sentence mixing, but that affects almost no one so it's barely worth mentioning.

That's the funny thing: you don't have to force it on them any more than you "force" bedtime stories or nursery rhymes on them. All you really have to do is pick up a copy of Favorite Poems Old and New by Helen Ferris and read it with them every so often.

>>98006
I got into it by flipping through an old poetry compilation with a bunch of different poets, reading aloud anything that caught my eye, and gradually easing my way into more challenging stuff, but I don't know of a specific compilation I'd recommend for that. If you don't mind a book with a lot of children's verse, the aforementioned Favorite Poems book has a lot of great stuff I still love reading, as does Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats by T.S. Eliot. You could also try getting into a good entry-level poet like Rudyard Kipling or Robert Frost, or reading a bunch of haiku translations if you want to go the weeb route.
This reminds me, I really gotta learn my poetic meters and feet. I recognise them some of the time, but other times it escapes me, and having a better feel for them would be real fun for shitposts. Like, around a year ago while I was delirious and could barely keep my eyes open, I started scrawling out this poem about cursed swamp jews who couldn't touch money without it turning to dust, but the meter was fucked and I had to abandon it partway through.

It's the "pointless" part that really makes responding to that difficult. If we have different definitions that's fine. You want to arrange text effectively, but a good trick might have trouble fitting into a novel without breaking tone, so poetry is short and novels aren't dripping with purple. But if Ulysses, a towering cliff face of unassailable novel-length poetry, is the best novel, then it proves that it's only hard to do.
If you want to make high-level perspective drawings you might not study Escher but the basics wouldn't do. How do you draw the reflection in someone's eye, or the ornaments on a Christmas tree? There's not even enough room to use the same art style as the rest of your drawing, so a photograph would be useless.

Sorry if this comes off as shilling, but all the guys I know are busy with other manga.
Seed of Might (who did the recent Dragon Ball Color Correct project, and are doing similar work on the rest of the cel era Dragon Ball anime) are working on a manga scanlation project as well. Unlike the other projects, this one is falling behind and is looking to be wasted effort despite how much effort has already been put into it.
They've already scanned the original Kanzenbans and both endings for the original manga, and a lot of work has been done in cleaning up most of the volumes and colour pages, but the project has stagnated due to people not having the time (that's why I've also had to stop working on it).
Most of the work now is clean up related and eventually typesetting to my knowledge, so if anyone is interested just ask (or go on one of Seed of Might's nyaa pages and join their discord).
The manga stuff isn't their only ongoing project as well- they're also working on an Evangelion release and some members are working on fixing up the Sailor Moon BDs, but the manga one is the only one in dire straits.
Again, sorry if this looks like advertising, but there aren't a lot of great avenues to really gauge interest in this.

Crop them.
BD has to use black bars because it doesn't support high resolution 4:3.

I don't know how common the term localization is here but given the recent shitstorm that wokalizers are scared of being replaced by AI I won't miss this opportunity to make the question as stupid as it is: when people mention AI Translation do they mean translation by translation services by known services like DeepL, Goolag translator, Yandex...? And if not, then which AI is being used to do specific translations?

Pics related but just for fun I decided to make an experiment with the visual novel Mayjasmine in one of the pics, which contains the original text (probably in Chinese), then the translation by Yandex and then the translation by Goolag.

As a personal note, I can see the day a program goes to the light to translate in live what's in your screen.

Sugoi is the only open-source local model that's passable at translating japanese. Before it, there were argos translate models (which I highly suspect are powering firefox's new offline translation feature), but they've always sucked so much at non-indo-european languages that even their downloads are shamefully hidden in the depths of the wiki.
I suppose, some people will try to bake their own models, some will order Deepl's Pro/Enterprise plans. For enterprises, I think I've heard Deepl offers custom models/embeddings specifically tweaked for customers' individual needs, but I'm not sure.
Some will probably try to hook up to OpenAI APIs.

Does Tengoku Daimakyou (Heavenly Delusion) have any trans themes by any chance? I'm interested in the manga but the whole brains-swapping gimmick makes me wonder if it's gonna be hard to keep track of the characters. First heard about this show last year from a scamboli reviews video.
Replies: >>106017
Are there any Japanese stories based on Lovecraftian horror themes or similar? Not speaking about something borrowing only the names for humorous reasons, like "Nyaruko: Crawling with Love", but about stories that rely on the fear of unknown like the original they were based on. Something like Chinese "Deep Sea Embers" or Korean "Paladin of the Dead God"?
Replies: >>106017 >>106036
>>105936
Watch it anyway. It's a good anime. Even if it were "trans" it isn't treated in a good light through the whole series which is why you don't hear trannies talking about it as the writer actually explores the idea instead of just slapping it on as a label for diversity points. A boy is murdered and his brain is put into the body of an older girl to save him. Causing him to have an identity crisis. There's more going for it than just that too.

>>106541
It's better than having it off, even for content that doesn't have grain because it prevents banding and reduces the characteristic smearing of modern codecs among other issues.

However, no modern codec beats h264 at bitrates worth watching and for content other than digital animation, including for grain preservation. Modern codecs are only better than x264-encoded h264 when you make bitstarved encodes, in synthetic benchmarks, or for digital animation. When you have a high-quality encode, that is, that tries to have only minimal or no apparent difference from the source, and your source isn't digital animation, every modern codec will need more bitrate than h264 to reach that quality level.
