Correct, it was absolute cancer. As a matter of fact BC2 was final the nail in the coffin for the series, everything after was just shitting on its corpse.
To be clear, 2142 made a lot of mistakes. They sacked the talent behind BF2 during 2142 development and it really shows in how, rather than actually address some of the major balance issues BF2 had, they just decided to dumb the gameplay down in some significant ways including eliminating jets and reducing class specialization. Then it took the rank-and-unlock cancer to the next level by hiding basic equipment upgrades behind playtime. But oh, if only we knew then just how bad things could get.
BC1 was the first game that eased in some of the more casual features like ammo pool and smaller maps with a consolized focus. BC1 showed us that there was internal conflict between old DICE and EA. Shit-eating children like yourself might not remember this but there was actually a lot of controversy over BC1 because Ricearoni, who was appointed CEO just one year earlier, tried to make every weapon in BC1 a microtransaction.
BC2 was where the series went full COD. Health regeneration, ammo pool, oversimplified classes, easymodo medic trains, replacing Conquest with 3 flag Domination, kdr mattering more than objectives, the linearization of Gold Rush, porting to PC, etc.
BF3 represented the full conversion of DICE into EA. BF4 furthered this because DICE LA (formerly known as Danger Close, the same shitty studio that made Medal of Honor and was responsible for scripted movie games existing in the first place) worked on the game as well.
As much as I hate EA wanton destruction of every developer it has ever gotten its hand upon, it has to be acknowledged that consolefag cowadoodie scum like yourself also play a role in manufacturing consent for wholesale genre destruction. The really tragic thing is how Quake Wars came out at roughly the same time as 2142 and flopped because of it, and now some 15 years later there still seems to be no other developer willing to make the kind of large-scale class-and-vehicle-based FPS that once defined the Battlefield series.
You shit eater.
