Post your favorite openings and endings. Bonus points if you can explain what you like about them.
I don't watch OPs, they're stupid.
A few choice picks:

Sailor Moon (OP1) - I always loved the outstanding art direction in this opening. It goes for a more abstract, artistic look, with popping colors and those rough background illustrations, as if from a schoolgirl’s notebook. It elevates the show beyond what's actually in it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbyOe4qD7EA

Read Or Die (TV) - a really stylish opening. It establishes an atmosphere of the city with that bebop jazz really well and you’re immediately hooked, with cute girls and lewd title cards and all.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxsoJ6gcDT4

Gun x Sword (mk.1) - another lyricsless opening. This one is very simple but I like the concept of showing silhouettes of characters that are then one by one unveiled as the anime goes on. It creates a sort of idiosyncratic link between the two. The music also nicely underlines the Weird West theme of the show.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQrz619uflg

Project ARMS (OP1) - an example of an opening better than the actual anime. The show itself is a rather middle-of-the-road battle shounen, that I may or may not need to re-watch, but the OP is borderline experimental and looks like something Atlus might have made. It’s just really fucking cool.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3PhuNEzUDA

The Irresponsible Captain Tylor - pure 90s magic is what this is. It’s hard to even describe, such a delightful and wonderful opening. A perfect mix of song and visuals representing the show.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8W7eF49xv4

Saint Seiya (OP1) - 30 years on and there hasn't been a single shounenshit opening as good as Pegasus Fantasy.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNx1SzO9KG0

Fushigi No Umi No Nadia - a very traditional opening but the perfectly fitting music and gorgeous animation creates that unparalleled sense of adventure. Plus Nadia is so cute.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOmqOhGno6Y

Wolf's Rain – this is not a particularly standout OP but it has this certain 00s urban flair to it that is very appealing to me. I just love openings that prominently feature a city.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0Yuo0zqaoA

Macross 7 – I used to hate Macross 7 as a kid and I probably need to re-watch it, but fuck if this isn't an excellent opening with some jaw-dropping animation.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=045JNXRCvgM

Baccano – now that's what you call an opening *Italian chef kiss*. Sadly, it got overmemed by normalfags to a point where you can't even find the original on youtube anymore.
https://vimeo.com/6292637

Re:Cutie Honey – though the OVA ended up disappointing me, the opening was among the things I enjoyed the most about it. And I think it does a better job at what they were going for than the show itself.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xyttWgiGYc

Key The Metal Idol – a very slow and moody opening that has this relaxing and ruminative quality to it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9y7KrcfuxAw
xxxHolic – very simple but effective and arguably the perfect CLAMP opening.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXDoJxAdwjQ

Planetes - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbswxTgXoWI
This OP doesn't really do anything special - in fact, it commits several sins that I hate in OPs, like characters standing facing each other and characters vaguely running towards the camera. However, where a lot of other series I've seen do that stuff because they don't know what to do with the OP in general, Planetes has a very specific goal, which is to show a brief history of rocket science. The series is extremely grounded and realistic for an SF anime, and the OP really sells that because the characters get as much screen time as a shot of Laika the Russian spacedog and various other rockets from human history.

Trigun - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rO0H80_JiOI
Trigun's OP is quite mediocre aside from Vash posing with a gun and the good music. The ED, however, is a different story. It's a lot more laid back and the shots of Vash doing normal things like eating or napping are more in line with his personality than the OP. The vocals are also incredibly passionate: even if I can't understand a word of what the singer is saying, he sounds very melancholy and it comes across extremely well.

>>47719
>this is not a particularly standout OP but it has this certain 00s urban flair to it that is very appealing to me
I know what you mean. I started the first few episodes of Wolf's Rain when I was just starting to get into anime but I never actually watched it. Apparently it was pretty mediocre, but I never really grew out of my edgelord phase so I'll probably like it. The character designs and music are prime examples of the 00s art style and sensibilities.
STRAY-AY, STRAY-AY-AYYYYYY . . .

>Baccano
The OP is so good it made me interested in the series, which is a lot more than I can say for a lot of OPs.

Baki's second OP is probably one of the greatest OPs in recent time. Even if you don't like the music itself it fits incredibly well with both the story and the animation. The cg is also hidden well with the light.

Shōjo Shūmatsu Ryokō (ED) – though the OP is alright, the ending stood out to me more with this cool sketchy style and catchy song that I've been humming for days - mo wan nai mo wan nai mo wan nai and now you will too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8hwDQJRU7E
Thought the music and visuals were pretty good, also does a good job of setting the mood for the rest of the show. Even though I like it better than some others, I'm honestly not a fan of this type of sequence given that the typical television episode is only around 25 minutes, sometimes shorter, and that includes the two to three minutes the credits take to play. I think Angel Cop does it right with a short seconds long intro. Couldn't find the intro itself so I'll include the outro instead.
