Discuss and recommend light novels.

>What's a light novel?
Light novels are books—or more specifically, works of popular fiction from Japan. In Japan they are called ranobe, which is a shortened form of raito noberu, or light novel. A typical light novel volume is a bit shorter than a regular one (under 300 pages), is small in size (14.8 cm in height, and 10.6 cm in width), is affordable (around 600-800 yen), includes a number of manga-style illustrations (probably 5 to 10 of them), and is not too difficult to read (generally targeting a young adult audience). Of course, there are exceptions that can be found regarding any one of these points.

I recently got my hands on the Guin Saga LN thanks to a good anon. It's about a big guy with a leopard head protecting 2 children of royalty in a dark fantasy land. A good anon recently uploaded the English translations of volume 1-5 recently.

The novels are great (the first and past the first few, fuck Lizardlord), the author is a fag.
I heavily suspect the ending will make me hate it because he's rushing it because he got butthurt over fan translations not giving him any shekels (while the official translation is multiple volumes behind) and every pirate costing him six hundred gorillion yen, which made him cut the number of volumes down heavily.
I wish we had more undead novels. Liches are the best.

Well...
I've just started reading the Zero no Tsukaima LN after watching the anime years ago. I've been told that Louise is less of a bitch in the LN.
Amazon have gone on a banning spree and purged a load of light novels from their store, including How Not to Summon a Demon Lord (but they've left the manga up for some retarded reason), the unreleased volume of Infinite Stratos and No Game No Life.
I don't understand why they've removed these ones, as they're fairly innocuous (though Infinite Stratos does feature male discrimination as a fairly minor plot point) however the main characters and love interests are mostly highschool age in these series, so maybe that's why. Or maybe it's more discrimination by western companies towards Japanese media.
Thoughts?

Western media's been more and more asspained that they can't get people to watch/read/etc. their crap anymore lately.
It's probably a first attempt to take Japanese media out of the normalfag mind to not lose their consumer-cattle. Combine that with Netflix and CR making westernized stuff, and what you get is a bait and switch: Take away legit Japanese media, replace it with pozzed faux-Nip media and hope nobody notices.
Wouldn't be surprised if we'd see some western publisher doing LN-style books with gay black crippled attack helicopters as protagonists soon.

I think judging by the current state of the western comic industry the majority of normalfags won't buy their woke garbage if it doesn't at least have something worth reading for. In a true free market the woke sjw's who can only make trash will have a hard time competing with superior folded 1000 times japanese media.

That's assuming normalfags can discern the quality of things when they have this odd magnetism towards the worst in any genre.

The two previous times manga compelled me to seek out the LN/WN source material to see where the story went, Tanaka the Wizard and Otome Game Sekai wa Mob ni Kibishii Sekai Desu, it ended up making me think less of the stories I originally liked. In the case of Tanaka I guess I was expecting the author to continue developing the MC's personality in compelling manner but I after making him retardedly OP they ran out of ideas so just decided to go look here's the same gag character defects and degeneracy for the hundredth time isn't it funny huwaaah! In the case of the second it's similar, the MC is too OP, but that would be alright if they delved more into the dynamic of unexpected consequences for deviating from the original videogame's script too much, yet it seems those consequences also get resolved too easily for my taste. I might read more of Otome hoping for something but I fucking loathe Tanaka now and that really disappoints me.

This weekend I discovered My Death Flags Show No Sign of Ending and Darenidemo Dekiru Kage Kara Tasukeru Maō Tōbatsu both have extensive LN/WN source material but am gunshy of similar letdowns.

Almost all of it needed a better editor. A lot of plotlines go nowhere with "remember the chekovs gun?". A lot of repetition, every culture is japanese in rubber masks. Characters described as "impossibly intelligent geniuses" never doing anything smart, you only know they are intelligent because everyone fucking constantly repeats "wow! he/she is so smart!". Same jokes over and over again, such as "ainz does something based on wrong assumption> everyone praises him for his foresight because whatever".
Nut most of these problems are largely absent in last 2 books, I highly suspect they got author an editor or two.

So Zero no Tsukaima has been completed for a while now. Granted, the ending wasn’t written by the original author because he died if I recall correcly. Was the LN any good? Is there actual romance and character development in the LN, or is it just the same schtick the whole time?

There is.
The LNs are infinitely better than the anime. Characters and relationships develop and progress unlike the anime where everything is reset.
I read Bottom-tier Character Tomozaki and really enjoyed it. Otaku male gamer gets lessons on how to improve himself from a rival female gamer riajuu. Very well written (for a LN), the characters are endearing, and the story avoids most (if not all) clichés.

>>18317
The reason is because volume 12 and 13 weren't written from the perspective of Nazarick's members. Volume 14 is back in full swing with the same bullshit you describe, and the bullshit is really tiring. If you were to cut out all of the repetitive "Ah I don't get what they're saying" "I'm not worthy to be a leader" "I hope no one figures out I'm not as competent as I'm made out to be", you'd end up with half the fucking word count.

It's self insert grabage with tons of cool yet forever abandoned sub-plots. The author is an autistic, acid cunt who shat on western pirates and told people to >>>/diy/ when called out about his thousand hinted sub-plots during the course of the volumes. Realizing that he put himself in a corner by the sheer amount of characters and stories he cultivated, Volume 14 practically consisted in going tabula rasa on an entire kingdom which costed him several volumes just so he can wrap Overlord up around Volume 18 or so.
That being said, I still love the universe he created to death, his characters are wonderful and fun. As he cantankeruously mentioned on twatter, this universe is indeed very fertile ground for side fan-stories, a big, parallel (gaiden) plot about who knows (heroes appearing on another continent and thus leading to an eventual clash later on?), or even rewrites of the main plot.

That’s kind of odd. I’ve tried reading Spice and Wolf twice, and both times I only made it through volume 6. It wasn’t necessarily an issue of being bored though, I just found Holo to be very annoying. Thought it would be better either with a different heroine or just a story about Lawrence. The parts with him doing his thing were the most fun for me to read. The romance was too weak for me to care and Holo felt like an unwanted detour everytime she took center stage. Also, finding out about the implied rape of Holo made me never want to touch it again.

>>20321
I like it for medieval autism, but Holo's character is kinda crap for a long time. Like her just randomly testing Lawrence time and time again for literally no reason, and the romance comes on too fast because it's like she's just playing around and testing him for most of the time and then suddenly she's supposed to be madly in love.
I dimly remember that at some point Lawrence compares this to the behavior of actual wolves in the latter novels and it'd be cool if that was actually true and the author was just trying to make her an actual wolf-girl.

That's not the reason he's wrapping it up, it's because he got naturally tired of its universe after a decade. Many such cases.
As for the twatter sperg-out, he just got butthurt gaijin fans read fan translations and thus don't buy jap copies, depriving him of those extra shekels, when Overlord made him basically rich. Yeah, he's a total avid cunt, reminding us of a certain self-insert main character...

The autiste panicked during the jap lockdown when he got his salary man job frozen and SUDDENLY had an epiphany: writing LN's as a """"""side"""""" job and having Isekai royalties may be cool as fuck when you're locked out of your token wageslave destiny. Where do I find raw LNs? All I can find are scans (huge file size, inconvenient to read) and the mostly garbage selection of epubs on itazuraneko.

Only light novel I follow is Index. But only because the anime adaptation is so shit because the director is a moeshit lover that hates Touma. His direction is comparable to the west's ((( localization ))) bullshit, where he changes things because he's in charge of the anime and gives a middle finger to everyone else involved. >destroying your work of art that you'll be remembered for because some people are appreciating it without giving you money
absolutely retarded. Whatever happened to wanting to make something good for the sake of it and leave a legacy of works that people will remember you by. Sure, overlord is not a grand work of art that is going to be remembered in 50 years, but there's always going to be people interested in reading things from the past. Can you imagine reading the overlord LNs in 50 years, thinking "hey this is pretty good", getting a rushed ending, looking into and finding out this retard self-destructed his work because he got angry at some foreigners downloading fan translations of his books?

Le Fanu & Co? Too much purple prose for me. Maybe that's the fault of translation? And to enjoy a story, you usually need to empathize with its characters, and those there are pretty much impossible to. I'd anhero instantly in their situation, so I guess they must enjoy it more than resent. Emotionally incompatible.

Dumping Madan no Ou to Vanadis LN. The manga is 10 volumes while the LN is 18 and finished in 2017. The manga is just an adaption of the LN so people say just read the LN instead.

<Set in Western Europe during times of war, Eleanor “Ellen” Vertalia, one of the Vanadis of Zhcted, leads the battle into Brune. There are, in fact, seven Vanadis, named for having each received a powerful weapon from the dragon to individually reign over seven territories. The power of the Vanadis invokes dread and fear from their enemies. An earl in the service of the country of Brune, a young archer by the name of Tigre, experienced the Vandis’s power firsthand after being defeated on the battlefield by Ellen. However, Ellen chose to spare his life after witnessing his skills, but in exchange, he is asked to serve her.

Watching the anime recently got me to try out the LN. What impresses me most is that this story actually tries to incorporate military tactics and pays more attention to it than a large majority of JP fiction that tries to incorporate large scale military tactics. Also the characters are actually competent on both the hero and villain's side. It's not just a one sided wash and the characters actually struggle to actually win some battles. It's not what I expected considering the cover looks like your average isekai power fantasy. Of course the girls are cute and, thankfully, MC isn't a bitch. Which is a nice contrast considering MC is, body wise, your average fit hero. Meanwhile the enemy generals are Gutts tier and are actually as strong as they're intimidating.

Wasn't that "The death mage who doesn't want a fourth time"? I recall its chapters being pretty long, and the release speed at one to two chapters per month. As for the genres present, the horror in that story is at most visual horror played for laughs. No real sense of dread anywhere. My counter-proposal is a web novel "Rebuild World". Read it at the translator site, because the J-Novel Club version lags about significantly.

In other news, reading one of supposedly official light novels, I have spotted some expression that triggered my autism. The series in question was 'My quiet blacksmith life in another world" (nothing special to it worthy of recommending), the part two, page 261, and the expression was "without further adieu". The correct form is "without further ado" with its origin from Middle English, like in the title of Shakespearean comedy "Much ado about nothing".

I read the whole thing a while back. A lot of weird twisting is done to force a galaxy-wide mystical "Protoculture" energy source into the story, complete with weird time bullshit and so on. The standard Macross concept of the government lying to the people is removed, it's a lot more black-and-white with the good and bad. The Sentinels (what happens after the shows) is entirely original and it's pretty obvious: suddenly, Star Wars-style aliens and wannabe Dune events pop up all over the place. Not really something I can recommend.

The only LN series that has managed to impress me is Ascendance of a Bookworm. The series barely suffers from dumb anime tropes, the author wrote the entire story before starting on the WN, characters don't all exist to prop up the MC. Ascendance still doesn't compare to the best the west has to offer, but it is far better than any other LN series. The only other LN that comes close is Youjo Senki.

Wheel of time is above average at best. Go read Malazan Book of the Fallen instead.

Why? LN are essentially pulp fiction novels or Stephen King novels, not high literature. Go and look for winners of prestigious awards etc (and learn Japanese since almost none of it is translated) if you're trying to compare with Hemingway or Orwell.

The fact that the author is able to juggle so many damn characters who act pretty consistently is pretty impressive. The systems she has for the magic and and stuff like that is also pretty neat and far far better than the usual video game shit that goes on in LN's.

Wheel of time suffers immensely from poor editing. The editor was the author's wife and she just sucked at the job. The amount of times you'll read about women smoothing their skirts or pulling on their braids in order to represent their state of mind if fucking ridiculous. There's plenty of other minor issues with the editing that I have half forgotten, but ya it's bad. The story and setting and magic are decent. All of the female characters are dumb or annoying cunts, with one notable exception. It has some good highs, but the roads between those highs tend to get pretty dull.

Finished book 5 and really enjoyed what I read. One thing that I found interesting is how terrifying Guin would be as an adversary. Some spoilers for books 2-5.

Guin is very brutal when he fights. Basically he goes into modes of berserker frenzies when he's in the fray but can switch that off on the fly which allowed him to access the battlefield and kill when necessary. Not only is he very strong but his skill with the sword is rivaled by almost no one.

When he allies with the Sim (monkey people), he is outnumbered 3 to 1 and their enemies are well trained while also having good armor. He wins the war with good timing, strategy, psychological warfare, and using the environment to their advantage. Like collecting all the slimes they found with in a few miles and then forcing them into a valley. Then when they baited the enemy forces into the valley, they poured chemicals that scared the slimes into a literal tidal wave of slimes that killed many people.

Guin also had someone inside the enemy ranks spreading lies and other info. When this gained a ton of trust, Guin had him lead the men into a fake Sim village where the Sim pushed boulders onto the soldiers and then dumped oil on them before lighting them all on fire. This tactic was advised by Guin because he knew that clan of Sim would enjoy that method of killing. They also made more traps like a pitfall that buried men alive. Guin thought of all of these.

Guin, while stoic, also knows how to lead an army and talk his way out of bad situations. This king-like charisma has saved him from many bad situations. Guin doesn't remember his past but he once thought of a situation if the enemy army recruited him instead of the Twins of Peros. If he was, he would be their best leader since the only reason he helped the twins was because they were in trouble so he's loyal to them.

I'm looking forward to reading more an hope other anons get into it. If I had the money I would have someone translate the whole thing.

A story about an idiot getting to know a NEET detective and various other NEETs that help out. As much as I would like to put a bigger description I think the synposis in it provides a somewhat better explanation that what I could give.
I was wondering if I should write my feelings after fully finishing it but I will just keep it short. I really did genuinely enjoyed the characters and the setting and I feel that this isn't a story that everyone will like but for those that do I hope you enjoy it as you read all the volumes. Then again I haven't read anything fully in more than a decade so my taste on what to like has vastly diminished overtime. A personal thing I did was bought all the volumes and all three drama CDs hoping to one day to fully understand them in true Japanese and to also scan the drama CDs if ever needed and thank god that yen is low.

Took me 3-4 hours to finish one volume and there are a three drama CDs that get alluded in a few volumes but those never got translated and it seemed that it wasn't needed to understand the story. The other thing is that a few stories are out of order so here is the list the author himself made, and I made sure to not include the names for these chapters/volumes since I feel that a title enough is to spoil on what will happen a bit. Another thing is that you should read the afterword first for each volume it will make sense why I say this after you read the first one. One thing to note is that I used the Baka-Tsuki Epubs from the earlier untranslated torrent list and sadly they do have some translation errors here and there but overall I do hope that a few of you enjoy this.
1st year in high school, October (1st Volume)
1st year in high school, March (2nd Volume)
2nd year in high school, April (5th Volume, first chapter)
2nd year in high school, May (5th Volume, second chapter)
2nd year in high school, May (3rd Volume)
2nd year in high school, July (4th Volume)
2nd year in high school, August (5th Volume, third chapter)
2nd year in high school, September (5th Volume, fourth chapter)
2nd year in high school, October (6th Volume)
2nd year in high school, November (end of 6th Volume)
2nd year in high school, December (7th Volume)
2nd year in high school, January (8th Volume, chapter 1)
2nd year in high school, January (8th Volume, chapter 2)
2nd year in high school, February (8th Volume, chapter 3-4)
2nd year in high school, March (9th Volume)

Last thing to mention is that this does have an anime that I believe covers up to the 4th volume, and as far as I am aware there is a manga but I don't know how far it went and if it ever finished but it probably did.

Guess the original meaning of this sentence. It has several mistakes. Masachika, the MC, is a guy, so that's not "her", and it's his male friends that are supposed to worry about him here, not the guy himself. It's embarrassing to read even for a ESL like me.

Recently I got tired about seeing the same weaksauce Japanese protag everywhere, so I tried reading some Korean stuff instead. Most MCs there belong in the insane asylum, one way or another, so that's also hard to read in its own way. I found some exceptions, like adopting the Chinese protag traits and surprisingly doing it well. One is "Absolutely Do Not Touch Eldmia Egga" which despite the laughable name presents the metaphorical balls the size of ostrich eggs. Somewhat like a shounen protagonist, but without the expected naivety. Another is "I Gave Up on Conquering the Heroines" which despite being an obvious trash human if judged by personality, makes the story fun to read because of the misfortune of being a yandere magnet on top of that. Imagine a worse punishment than being involved with 6+ yanderes, haha.

While seeking a story with a real harem, I found "Another World Survival: Min-maxing My Support and Summoning Magic". Actually it's too realistic for comfort, haha. Down to the minute detail of gory and disgusting descriptions. And the flow of events there is so fast that each volume usually spans more or less the the period of day plus night. That ride is a bit too fast for me, honestly. Surprising for a Japanese author, because you'd expect a more fable-like story with all its sharp edges polished off instead.

Irritating. This character sheet is supposed to represent the main character of an isekai light novel. Notice the value for health points, 66 for some reason. Compare that to average values for a comparable character from tabletop Dungeons and Dragons. Single four-faced dice per experience level for a wizard class, plus the bonus from the Constitution stat, in this case +2 per level (discounting any possible to pick perks related to health value along the way). Multiplying that per 36 levels for the maxed out character, which gives 90 (from the average roll of 36d4) plus 72 from the bonus, results in 162hp . So why make him almost three times more squishy?

I have learned today that a novel machine-translated through Patreon donations can have the same character named in turns as Serrano, Seraine, Seraila, Cerella or Cyrilla. What's I'm curious about is exactly why there's enough paypigs despite the bad service provided. And the story isn't that special itself. Its main themes were done before, I daresay better. A world with DnD mechanics, a medicine practitioner transmigrating, the essence of magic as uncovering the laws of the world in systematic manner, nothing else that's original or novel.
I was in the mood for some edgelord catharsis so I'm rereading Nidome no Yuusha (The Hero Laughs, blah blah), but it has only 7 out of 8 volumes translated even now. When will be the final volume translated, finally?
I wonder how wordy was "Loner life in another world" in the original version. Waterfalls and floods of words, words, words, stuck with elaborate turns of phrase at every turn. It must be a challenge to read with all those unusual synonyms represented by rarely used kanji. Yet it remains nothing but someone's wish fulfillment cranked up to eleven. Someone with severe savior (messiah?) complex. The underlying structure of the story remains the same throughout the 11 volumes so far. I wonder when he runs out of people to save and problems to solve at this rate. Their collective presence becomes a blur to me, considering it's two and half countries at this point. I also think it's inadvertently demeaning to those requiring saving, because it implies they are unable to help themselves without outside influence. Is that a whole world of retards or something?
>>105555
Epub file format is apparently just a zip file containing html-formatted text files as chapters. Fortunately for me, because that way I can by force read them separately in some web browser if some trouble arises.
Translating something literally might look bad. For example if I see "large grains of tears" I assume that is some figure of speech typical to Japan that compares tears to rice grains. Something that can throw you out of your stride during the reading to figure it out. What is your preference? To leave it as it is, or to make it look more natural in English?
Replies: >>110242

Haha, that gets even better (or worse). There are some signs of uncleared MTL left along later. Like "handsome" used to describe a cutesy younger girl (as judged from the illustrations) without any androgynous traits or the MC's name suddenly translated as Kyle instead of Saito like before and after. Shoddy work, I guess.
I have read something unexpectedly serious and psychologically realistic. A novel full of broken people that struggle with their lives, yet often propagate the misery that created them in the first place. Not something recommendable to lift your mood, something with the sole conclusion like "life sucks" instead. A Korean story with the title "The Villainess Doesn't Want to Die", translated completely and well enough for me to have nothing to nitpick.
Now that's unusual. To have someone's "ghost" haunt another person as a result of trauma after their half-successful suicide attempt due to something like dissociative identity disorder, with them both switching control from time to time. It's a first story like this for me to read. Much more attention to detail than a typical isekaislop.
Another surprise. The Japanese would never make the MC a bona fide jackass with lots of swagger and without an ounce of shame like this:
https://www.novelupdates.com/series/im-going-to-destroy-this-country/
Still, the same type of humor present over 200 chapters might become boring, and it had, actually. Not to mention the bunker thickness plot armor that saves him from any dumb stunt he tries. And there are hardly any sane characters in this story. It's like the insane asylum the size of a world.
Replies: >>110919

To the well-versed Japanese linguists here: What could the phrase "Nisei Bei" possibly mean? It was written in romaji so I don't know what kanji it could have been referring to.
I'm reading the LN titled "Long story short, I'm living in the mountains" that mixes some supernatural folklore with how a city person imagines living in a rural area. It's quite dumb how they claim that a single tree fallen across a mountain road would need heavy machinery to make it usable again. Seriously? All you need is a few hours with a gasoline powered motor chainsaw to cut it to pieces then move them to the side. Or is that stuff forbidden to own in Japan or something?
Replies: >>110646
>>110644
Pointing out they didn't mention any landslides or holes in the road itself. That might require some tracked machinery to clear, but not merely a tree roadblock.
Quite funny idea: to make the MC a male mesugaki with pink hair in a gender-inverted fantasy world. Looks promising to read after a few chapters. The title: "Gacha addict in a matriarchal world", it's not even R-15, honest. Downsides: the original title from Korea, not Japan.

Expect a lot of pretty boys, extreme superficiality, and seething misogyny (not the hysteric hyperbolic kind bandied about by tumblr, but the actual literal definition). South Korea seems to be a basket case of fake people and impotent rage. All of the worst isekais I've ever come across have been from there.
>>110899
They just made a Sims clone that is somehow even gayer than The Sims 4 called inZOI. It looks exactly how you described, but probably without the misogyny since they're marketing it to western women.
>>110899
Try to read some R-18 josei aimed at women and written by women made in Korea. For some reason the most really vile characters there are female. Feminuts call that internalized misogyny, I call that truth in fiction, lol.
>>110899
Common fault of bad isekais is lack of consistent world-building, shown and not told with lore-dumps.

Idk, the MC killed the first pretty boy similar to himself on the spot. Others had pitiable roles overall, with bad outcomes generally.

Anon probably referred to the worst-koreans obsession with looks, but only with a specific set of looks and so deeply that they'll form full social hierarchies just based on how similar or different you are to those looks no matter how minor the differences. It's easy to notice since they all look the same to outsiders, who may be more prone to at least consider character or conduct whereas those are totally irrelevant in korean societies. Not even other SEA bugs do that, not to that extreme for sure. Same with their cash obsession, where disparities aren't so big in their country but they form entire castes just based on who has $2 (two) more or less bucks. With gooks accepting and being perfectly willing to enter slavery with another gook just 'cause they were informed that one has always made 14% more in wages. Stuff like that, ever prevalent and very visible, they even display it with pride a lot of times. You can't blame anon for noticing. It's normal in all their media, including their isekai novel/webtoons, and alien to most other countries. Including shitholes and bugs, even.

Of course, it's just another result of a colony-country having its culture altered and molded to the convenience of their lords. Much more developed and exaggerated, but with the same roots as the nips obsessing over bishonen with female traits after the war. Popularize, among the easily influenced younger women of the time, because it's much more convenient to have all men in your colony aiming to look good in a dress instead of in a brand-new military uniform. Add enough years, and you'll reach Current Year's situation. They'll call it "culture" now, heh, but dumb colonies don't deserve any better.
So, worstkorean LNs are also shit, but even worse.

Not all stories reflect those real-life problems. And seriously, how would you grade fictional characters by their looks or wealth in the first place? I'm judging the content, not the place it hails from. And you can't tell that Japanese stories are lacking faults of their own.
>>110527
The title was pulled from the translator's website. Well, shit happens.
"The Kept Man of the Princess Knight" stands out for several reasons. First, it's not isekai, but a fantasy story about the MC with a past. The atmosphere reminds me of those old private detective stories or movies called noir fiction, where nobody is free of some skeleton in their closets. Various people can die for very flimsy reasons like being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Anyway, it's not a typical cookie-cutter Japanese LN.

Find something more vacuous and superficial than this Japanese isekai LN, "Fluffy Paradise". Imagine a lisping toddler girl being served hand and foot by scores of always handsome important people despite her proclaiming repeatedly that she looks merely average and all that preferential treatment is unexplainable. Because when she was reincarnated she was granted a divine gift of being loved by any living being that's not human, emphasis mine. Top that, huh.

Too much similarity. Magic doesn't imitate technology exactly the same way. Compare the anime and other fiction involving magitech/magitek (magical technology). There is more content with artificial spirits replacing AIs for commanding the functions of magic towers where wizards live and conduct their experiments than with replicating computers in their usual form from our world.

And for your question, someone capable both of shaping metal and fire magic would be paid better to make some weapons than everyday items for commoner houses. That would be a waste of their skills. Don't attribute obvious retardation to some hidden intentions.

A false alarm, sorry. Torrented the second time with no problems.
I hate the anti-natalist nanny mindset vibes throughout the light novel series "My Quiet Blacksmith Life in Another World". The protagonist there doesn't trust the future to take care of themselves (he intentionally refrains from making the best blades he could, because reasons), yet he also prefers to refrain from influencing it by leaving descendants (despite cohabitating with several women), also because reasons. Faggot stance through and through, especially because the author lacks the balls to put the justification of those decisions into plain words.

I think the biggest problem with any form of art is that it's usually made by some nerd loser that failed at real life which is why he's sitting at a desk all day. If I tell AI to write me a novel about a man beating up and enslaving niggers, kidnapping girls and raping them until they have stockholm syndrome then making them his brides, then about 12 years later impregnating his daughters and adding his inbred granddaughters to his harem, I know the AI will do a far better job than if I paid some gay nerd to write it.

Unfortunately just living through different extreme situations is not enough on its own to turn a person into a good writer capable of processing and transmogrificating the life experience. Anon's example is as good as giving a clubbing thug some paper and a pen to write. Many war veteran writers - even the kinds that aren't traumatized into dysfunction - end up writing same kinda of garbo that shut-in nerds do, and I'm not even talking about living up to your edgy vanity example standards (which, as a product of Id's autopilot, would be actually easier to write than ballsy authentic stuff, navigating the normalfaggot hysteria during distribution aside).

Having role models is fine if you're a teenage boy but once you're a man you shouldn't need or want that anymore. What is your wife going to think when she walks in on you with some e-daddy shit on your screen, or takes a look at the book you're reading and sees what it is? That's like finding a fursuit and a pack of adult diapers in someone's closet.

"The Bladesmith's Enchanted Weapons" is more up my alley. Disregarding mental masturbation over the beauty of katana and female wiles collaring the guy's little guy. Its story is more grounded in real life principles, for better or worse.
It's not a typo if that's repeated twice, right?
>"The Tanaka Family Reincarnates", volume 3:
>The children William brought from the slums helped Emma with the basting, and the artist he’d brought was dying the threads for some reason. Hannah tried to stop him because she knew he couldn’t possibly have enough time to actually finish dying them, but they had the most brilliantly colored embroidery threads she’d ever seen brought to their store the very next day.
Dyeing is not the same thing as dying. Dumb series or not, proofreading is expected.
This Novelpia Global farce is funny, in a way. Why won't they edit their slapdash MTL? Misgendered characters, one chapter as he, another chapter as she, "royal We" translated as "royal I" which looks absolutely retarded, and narration flip-flopping between first and third person without warning mid-paragraph. Names fluctuating between several different spellings randomly are the least problem. This level of incompetence is quite funny.

If I had any contact with coding, I'd propose some separate "after-processing" software that would label characters acting/conversing, try to identify their gender from text and check for inconsistency. Highlighting conflicts. Isn't the point of programming to replace dumb work with automated work in general? That should also include editing prose. Luckily I'm only some anonymous idea guy.
Something to bitch about overzealous localization:
"It’s a first-world problem if I’ve ever heard of one."
This sentence was found in yet another isekai LN series from Japan "By the Grace of the Gods". My gripe with it comes from the fact it was used in a dialogue, said by the MC to another world's native person. How would you expect that idiom to be understood and recognized as such without some extremely specialized knowledge? That reminds me of that infamous excerpt from Tolkien's first tome of LotR:
"The dragon passed like an express train, turned a somersault, and burst over Bywater with a deafening explosion."
At least that was a firework description in third person narration, not a part of dialogue. I wonder what expression was used in the original Japanese for that "first-world problem". If it was translated verbatim, that's would be no longer about translation, at least.

It bothers me too, but I've often seen it from nip authors too. Retards. Random isekai characters in medieval swords and magic settings, randomly dropping lines in plain engrish with references to modern techie youth slang. Concepts that could only develop with the existence of cellphones, by japanese people, and only with them trying to speak english. Explaining new communication magic with "it's just like Line", or spam war tactics "like you're suffering a DDOS", or "if this magic fails we'll at least get some apologems", in the mouth of characters from a society that's struggling to develop war chariots. Some settings have that tech disparity but I've heard this bullshit even in "native isekai" with no real tech advancements. Works popular enough to get adapted. Not to mention, in those other worlds, USA never colonized Japan since neither exists. No reason to drop a misplaced line in english just because the author was too lazy to explain the concept with 4 extra words.
