Otona precure is just precure but with the characters aged up to hag. I didn't know why I expected a seinen/josei take on precure. Might still watch it since it's a precure show that's only 12 episodes instead of the usual 50. If you want to see hags acting like 10 year olds it might be worth it.

I was hoping Shangri La Frontier would be some kind of interesting drama that takes place within or tangentially to a video game, but no... it appears to be another one of these incomprehensible shows where the "story" is literally just about some uninteresting faggot figuring out how to git gud at a game.

Speaking as a hardcore video game enthusiast: what is the appeal of these kinds of stories?  What do people find interesting about this shit?  It's like someone is pitching an idea for a good RPG in the form of an anime.  Why don't they just make the damn game if they're so set on it?  I'd rather just play their game than listen to their creative pitch for it.  Or perhaps it's one of those stories written by people who actually don't understand video games at all.  Here's a tip: when you're playing a game, you are DIRECTING your own story.  So when you write a story... about someone directing their own story--which is what you're doing when you write about someone mastering a video game--you better do something to make the your weird meta story worth caring about.  Unfortunately this stuff is being churned out constantly the last several years, so it clearly has some kind of audience.

I guess I also say this as someone who hates stream whores and "let's play" faggots.  Is that the intended demographic?  That group of people who are so cripplingly unmotivated that they can't be bothered to play the game that interests them and just want to watch others do it?

I hate this video game shit in isekai too, like in Slime and Shield Hero, it totally takes me out of the story.  Is the modern Japanese boy so addicted to video games that they want video game mechanics inserted into every form of media even where completely inappropriate?  I spent my whole childhood entranced by television screens and monitors and I never ended up like this.  Help me understand the demographic being pandered to here.

Shangri-La Frontier is just a cool action show with great animation and a decent soundtrack. That's all people really wanted and it provides that. The talk of the RPG mechanics is just the author's way of justifying the character getting stronger or why he can't/isn't doing certain things. Now I'm speaking only for this show. As for most shows with RPG elements, they shouldn't exist because they almost contribute to nothing as you've said. If the whole game is set on a rule system that's very important and the reader knowing the stats actually matters, then it's fine but that is never the case. It's more interesting to revolve things around abilities instead of numbers. Especially when the numbers don't mean anything for the most part like Freiza Saga powerlevels.

I think the craze for RPG stats was popularized by the SAO anime and now the people who loved it created their own spin on it and we've been getting animes of those for a while now. Especially since animation adaptions come 2-4 years after something is created. So you can have an anime of a fad that's already dying but all the animation adaptions make it seem like they're constantly being made 24/7.

It's a very solid season so far and I think there are 10+ shows worth watching. I think there's something for everyone this season.

<Favorite shows so far:
>Sousou no Frieren
I wasn't expecting to see this type of slice of life where a the big adventure is over and now it's just an elf roaming the lands with a curvy Patchouli Knowledge while solving problems here and there. This is what I was expecting from Elaina The Wandering Witch, but this one takes its self more seriously, and S-Rank Adventurer where the father is way more interesting and relatable than the daughter. Which is a shame because it wouldn't be bad if he was all the focus. Anyway this show is interesting so far and one of the better looking shows of the season. Hopefully it keeps up the quality.

This show is pure action and quality animation to go with it. Since it's a VRMMO there's no real stakes or even a plot. Just excuse after excuse for MC to kill things and show off the author's fetish for dex builds. And despite there being no real stakes I find myself invested into the fight because of how well they're made and MC's investment into it.

Reminder that Raildex was written by a 14 year old kid and he can keep his characters more consistent than most of modern Hollywood. But really a story like this could really work if the genre was changed from shonen/seinen to seinen/murder mystery. Having someone who can eat abilities and using him to slowly dismantle an empire from the inside before they find out he's the killer would be pretty interesting. Of course, this would require a good writer. Also limit it to where he can only keep the abilities of the last person he killed, requiring him to go out of his way to kill to get unique abilities. Not having most of them being comically evil would help too.

Best show of the season so far for me is Under Ninja, which is adapted from the manga. The manga was done by Kengo Hanazawa who also did I Am Hero and Boys On The Run. I'm surprised that I am Hero doesn't have an anime yet. Anyway this whole show feels surreal with the way it treats its self. It's ninjas living in modern Japan and blending in with society as they perform various missions and are, possibly, being phased out slowly due to Japan being able to rely on the U.N. for security. This show feels more like a slice of life than an action or drama piece as most of it is just focused on how the MC gets intel, manipulates others into giving him help or info, and a few other characters that lead up to a certain chain of events.

Even though it has a fun cast of characters I also like the delivery of the comedy which is usually taking a very absurd situation at face value but keeping the tone serious. The show also looks good in general and I don't find myself seeing anything QUALITY or jarring. Despite not having much action the fights do flow well too. Which is funny because the guy who's directing this mostly directs harems like Megami no Café Terrace, Kanojo ma Kanojo, and Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu Ω. It feels way too different from those shows to tell it was the same guy. So I'm guessing he's a fan of the original work and understands the tone of it. Either way I hope it keeps up the quality.

SHY had a nice first ep but after that I can't really find myself getting into it. I think the blonde girl getting corrupted and cured in 1 ep without the viewer knowing anything about her didn't make it that impactful or meaningful. I think a build up to that moment would have been much better because I don't feel like I should care about the character because I barely know them. Then it becomes more about yuri and friendship that than doing hero stuff. Outside of Spirits, I don't care for the rest of the cast. 

How I would fix SHY? Turn it into an ero-anime. I think that'll solve most of the show's issues.

From what I remember of Initial D, the difference is in the scale:
MC just had to race 1-2 dudes and once he overtook them, the rest of the race was skipped implying he won it. Then in-between races there was different elements preparing for the next race.
In MFG there's right off the bat 14 contestants and part of the attention is divided between them to show movement and remove some monotony, but this lengthen the number of episodes so it's dragging across the season. I don't know if it flows better in manga as I haven't read it.
Now is it fixable? No Idea since during the race the announcer is also dropping some backstory, and director need to display how MC went from rank 15 to whatever he will be at the end of this race. Maybe one awkward way is to skip the race and have the in-between race story have characters talk about the race that they just had.

It's production was hell as far as I can recall. Until very recently, I wasn't really sure if it was real. Everytime I tried to find something new about it, I could only find news about it being delayed accompanied by (0) zero images of the anime, and those news sites weren't particularly reputable sources.

I can't really comment on the release schedule since I don't use Netflix. I like to wait for a series to be over and then watch it. Also, I may be wrong and I can't be bothered to look it up, but I think that Stone Ocean was released in two batches.

Started watching Pluto recently and I won't finish it in 2023 but just three episodes in and it seems like it could be both AOTY.
