Happy New Year, /late/!
With the coming of a new year we are presented with a perfect time both to reflect on the past and look forward to the future.

>What were some of your favorite memories of 2023?
Buying a car I've always really wanted for years.

>What did you accomplish?
I bought a car I've always really wanted for years.

>What have you got planned for this new year, anons?
Fix up the car a little and take it to more car meets so I can make more friends that appreciate the car like I do.

>What are you looking forward to?
Long drives and good memories I'll never forget having in that car.

>What do you want to accomplish?
I want the car to be better than it was when I bought it, which it already is, but I know I can do better.

>How do you intend to move forward on your long term goals and dreams this year?
Keep the car in good condition and develop an even deeper passionate love for it, so that I can reminisce about the good times to my uncaring, emotionally unavailable grandchildren in the year 2085 after the UN bans ownership of goybal warming gas cars and the metal is recycled into the FEMA camp cage I will inhabit. Before that though, I would like to really make incredible memories and associate strong emotions with the thought of the car even after we eventually part ways.

One day this car will be in a scrap yard and I'll be in the dirt, but for just this moment we are one.

>What were some of your favorite memories of 2023?
Buying a child I've always really wanted for years.

>What did you accomplish?
I bought a child I've always really wanted for years.

>What have you got planned for this new year, anons?
Fix up the child a little and take it to more child meets so I can make more friends that appreciate the child like I do.

>What are you looking forward to?
Long drives and good memories I'll never forget having in that child.

>What do you want to accomplish?
I want the child to be better than it was when I bought it, which in ageplaying it is but I know I can do better.

>How do (You) intend to move forward on your long term goals and dreams this year?
Keep the child in good condition and develop an even deeper passionate love for it, so that I can reminisce about the good times to my underage, emotionally prevailable grandchildren in the year 2045 after the UN bans ownership of Trigger Warning: MAP-ophobe children and the tickle-play's cycled into the FEMA kiddy cage I will inhabit.
Before that though, I would like to really make incredible memories and associate strong emotions with the thought of the child even after we part ways.

One day this child will be in a scrap yard and beneath the dirt, but for just this moment we are one.

>What have you got planned for this new year, anons?
Not anything special really. I'm hoping to get some musical instruments of mine set up properly by someone who knows what they're doing. The problem is that I don't think there's anyone like that in my town, so I'm probably going to have to go like an hour or more away. Besides that I don't plan on doing much different from what I normally do.

It's a 1990 Mazda RX7 Convertible

The image isn't of the exact car, but mine looks identical. Some guy was selling it because he was to have his first kid soon and didn't have any room for the car in his life anymore. It was almost completely stock when I bought it, other than a nice short shifter. I've since changed all the fluids, coils and plugs and threw in a hi flow cat to make it a bit louder, but not too loud. It runs good and sounds amazing.

Other than that, I'm not too mod crazy and I love the car how it is right now. I simply want to focus on maintenance and preserve the mostly stock image I found the car in. Making connections because of this car has been the greatest thing about owning it.

The extent of the shopping list for a dream car such as this is as follows:

>Fuel/oil system
Air-fuel ratio gauge
Fuel pump kill-switch
Sohn oil metering adapter/bypass kit
Mishimoto braided oil/fuel lines
Mesh oil cooler shields
150ml syringe & tubing/castor oil premix kit, in the trunk

>Electrics system
Larger battery
Trunk mounted battery box
Positive wire, from pre-fusebox position, attaches to starter
a 2.2kW starter motor
Adapted IGN-1A ignition coils
Magnecor leads

>Breaks for stop
MTEC rotors
More ducting/more stainless braiding

>"Stanced" POS mods
Bilstein/Eibach coilovers camber to -1.5 front/-2.25 rear
10mm rear spacers
17" Triwing alloys = GT2
Window tint, any kind long as its kept <=30%
Bare paint/no carpeting transmission tunnel, polish to piano black or charcoal black or some such
Amber lens blinkers from Yahoo japan
Lot of people recommending vented hoods for FD/RX8 but they always look ugly. get a spare hood and the tools to do E-Type style louvres by yourself instead

I wish I was the one spending time with your rice waifu petting her and calling her a good girl

A fellow rotard

That's quite the list. I'm surprised you hadn't mentioned a koyorad anywhere.

The only thing I'd take from it is the premix kit, which I actually just ordered because of your reply. I had done a fair share of premix research before and after buying the car, but came to the conclusion that more frequent oil changes was the key to driving without it as long as my OMP worked. What I wasn't aware of was how prone to failure the S5 OMPs are and have since decided to start running the car with premix.

The engine compression is in the 100s for both rotors and she's been good to me for the 3000 miles I've driven her. Starts right up hot every time with only 47k on the original motor. It would be a true shame if this all came undone because I neglected this one thing..

Still though, your list is horrendous. I can't imagine doing all that to my rotary waifu :(
That's what I have my miata for :)

I am curious,
>Positive wire, from pre-fusebox position, attaches to starter
>a 2.2kW starter motor
>Trunk mounted battery box
what do these accomplish?

I like your hood idea, but the only hood I'd ever consider is the TII factory hood. E-Type louvres are quite pretty tho.

Yeah 150 ml I think is all you'd need to dilute a full tank's worth too, cause I'm not sure a whole lot is really necessary.

I had a look at rads just before I posted to see if I could advise on those things and there's no consensus there without cutting bumper supports or something. I'm told though for a turbo intercooler it's best to just grab one from a model of Isuzu. Any clever ducting looks like it'll require body cutting or fab work but that's where I'd start with a factory rad instead. The messy wheel arches obstruct airflow across the rotors as well.

The oil cooler mesh grill things there was a thread for someone making their own out of some chicken wire that I thought looked good and so I jotted the idea down.

Most of this stuff is a larp, I think I drew up most of the list a year ago while owning a rotor seems so out of reach for me. The camber angles especially you can just tell I haven't really got a clue for how suspension is supposed to be built.

All I remember about the electrics was that rotors tend to fry them or that the fuel with oil in it doesn't want to combust as readily or something... There will be discussions covering things like cold starts and the starter motors that you can find.

The hood of the car when it says "Amemiya" or "Mazdaspeed" on it they just somehow look uglier than the stock ones to me. If I wanted vents I'd take a stock one and try to make some of my own holes in it instead.

Didn't know anything about rotor engines before this. I spent way too long staring at this gif. It's mesmerizing. Maybe you guys could do something on them for the zine.

Hey, I don't really have much to respond with but it's fun reading your opinions on this stuff. I would like to hear the story of the rotary powered japomobile you owned. How you got it, some misadventures, the mods you did and how it ended up out of your life again.

I'm glad this conversation sparked interest in someone. Rotary engines are fascinating, even if you're not into cars. It's a widely misunderstood motor that has it's drawbacks, but they're incredible engines that have a cult like following all thanks to Mazda and what they did with them. Mazda was the only car manufacturer willing to take a huge risk in investing in them for decades despite many companies like Ford and Suzuki experimenting with them early on and deeming the rotary a failure. Mazda never lost faith.

Because of modern emissions standards, rotary engines will likely never be the sole power output of a new car ever again, but that makes them all the more fascinating to me and was a big reason why I bought the above car. The story and legacy of the rotary engine inspires me.
