Good question, actually. Was it the lack of mechs? The confusing mixture of knights and futuristic technology? Or maybe no one liked the combination of the app game gimmick? (Which flopped because people just scanned Nexo shield power images from the internet instead of buying the actual product).

Either way I wasn't busy with lego when it was released, I would've loved the five-color-element thing and especially the collectible shields. I actually bothered buying them all (even the Forbidden Power ones) separately from vendors, I just need the Merlok powers now and potentially some non-polybag shields if they exist to finish my collection.

I didn't watch the show so I don't know how that fared but the second wave probably killed Nexo Knights. The first wave was cool lava demons and the second was electricity gargoyles. The colour scheme was pretty bad too, or at least in comparison to the first wave for both the heroes and villains (trans neon orange shoved everywhere didn't work so well). The third wave villains were much but they aren't castle-y enough to still keep the medieval futurist theme and they didn't seem to sell well either.

It's a goddamned pity, I would've loved to use both villain themes for BrikWars armies. Would be a pleasant change from the overused 'imperial empire' space marine trope.

Damn it, themes like this should get a second chance.

These are all the Nexo Knight comics from the Lego Club Magazine for the anon that was after them. Even Lego seemed to stop caring for the theme as the third and final wave of sets had a grand total of 1 full pages in the magazines.

Pity Nexo Knights never got that popular. I'm not even sure what other theme I'm missing out on, but if I can think of any I'll be sure to ask. Thanks!

Guess who ended up watching the two seasons of Nexo Knights that were on Netflix? This guyyyy.

So here's my two cents. The general show is fun enough but:
>The whole theme relied on the app game and kids scanning the shields for special powers. Kids quickly learned to cheat with screenshots etc.
>Each episode had a forced 'power-up' scene where a shield gets shown on the screen to scan, this part always had the same animation.
>The power-ups in the show, despite each having a special name and image...They all do the same thing. Armor glows, knights end up winning a fight. Zero tension and predictable.
>The main characters don't get any decent character development until later episodes, causing the villains to steal the spotlight most of the time and have the better comedy moments.

So a cartoon that wasn't 'as good' as Ninjago (sheesh talk about a low bar) combined with LEGO's usual attempt at appealing to phone-addicted kids with some app game...

It's the same reason Hidden Side got screwed over. Neglected cartoon, app game gimmick, theme that kids don't seem to love as much as playing ninja.

But hey, Monkie Kid seems to be using a whole different strategy and it has a rabid fanbase on social media so maybe LEGO finally learned its lesso-

Thanks for your review anon. It seems almost all Lego media is half-assed; they may know how to market toys to children but they have no idea of how to create engaging tie-in cartoons. I still don't know why they go for the very ugly 3d minifigure look instead of making a unique, stylised cartoon.

>Never mind
I have this horrible feeling that it's the same person(s) really pushing for this within the company and nobody can show them the stats. It's so tiring seeing Lego repeat the same mistakes over and over.

I mean, there's Monkie Kid which is a step in the right direction. It's unfortunate that the people clinging onto it are perverts and shippers, but that seems to be the problem with every 'successful' series.

LEGO's gotten rather lazy, trying to jump onto trends several years too late and grabbing every license that's remotely kid-friendly. (Trolls? Seriously?)

Finally took the time to sit down and watch the season 3 DVD. It's only half of the story, I'll need to find a way to watch season 4 somehow. And man, what a downer of a cliffhanger.

This show suffers from having to follow a formula that fits with the app game, along with constantly repeating the same kind of scenes. There's this 'three nexo powers at the same time' mechanic going on that seems to fail a lot for plot convenience and doesn't do anything different from the normal single power-ups in the cartoon.

The monsters are cool, but I get why kids wouldn't like the greyish blue/purple color scheme.

Considering my country's godawful selection in obtainable TV shows and movies, I had to import the damned season 4 DVDs from Australia of all places. I feel like Johnny Thunder searching for treasure down undah.

The worst part is I know this show ends on a cliffhanger, I've grown attached to some of the characters so I'm bound to have a few minifigures of them in my city.

Ever thought of joining a private tracker forum?
Also is it just me or finding movies that way feels so much more enjoyable even if the movie sucks?

Season 4 was pretty easy to get through despite some repetitive 'use your app, kids!' scenes. The powers don't even do anything in the show besides initiating a generic 'armor glows and they're suddenly better at fighting' scene. Aaron (archer dude) actually gets some proper character development without having to rely on the plot, Clay has the obvious plot twists to his story as the 'main character'. Pity the rest pretty much stay the same, the villains still feel like they have more personality. The season has a proper ending, but they left a few 'to be continued' parts and I can imagine why fans would feel robbed after the next season never got to be (despite there being a wave of sets based on it).

AR apps are cursed.
