>So they aren't just "female monks", but a completely different group
No, they are female monks. The practical difference comes from their sex, as male monks in Christianity can also become clergy (bishops are usually ordained from the pool of local monks, for example), whereas nuns are strictly part of the laity, and need a priest to drop by any time they want to hold a liturgy.
>I'm only speaking from personal experience, but I never see any of them in my area do anything at all. At best I remember seeing some nuns/priests on the streets, or the Jehovas standing near bus stops or alike. Practically speaking, they're completely separate from me and everyone I know.
Yeah, what exactly they do does vary, especially if they're more service-oriented Catholic orders, but most generally are removed from the world in some way. It's to the extent that when you take monastic vows, you lose your last name and are given a new patron saint.
>All that said, the idea of celibate is weird as fuck to me, and its quite literally anti-natal or you could say anti-life/anti-human. I'd want my spiritual leaders to have children so that their teachings, ideas and characters have an actual genetic, flesh and blood legacy. They come from people, yet they're the dead end of people, so after each dies you have to search in the general population again. Its a needless generational reset. Not to mention it makes them even more separated from the normal population, meaning mutual understanding is even harder.
>I would think demons want humans dead, and self imposed celibate is a great way of... well, less humans. I can understand chastity, but complete celibacy to the point of being practically sterile is some bullshit. Its one thing if you think you'd be a bad father/mother, but that's the only justification I could accept.
Eh, I get it. That's definitely a much better mindset than the ones behind all those selfish or misanthropic justifications people give for not having kids nowadays. Familial lineage is extremely important, and monks would agree with you there, but it isn't the only kind of lineage they value, and they're also working with a different anthropology from most people nowadays.
I am too tired for this shit, kek. It's also a kemono thread where a good chunk of the posts are cheesecake.
