IMPORTANT ASTRONOMICAL ANNOUNCEMENT, /CHRISTMAS/ : (>>3133)

---

Christians have Christmas
Jews have have Haunakah
East Asian group have Dongzhi (winter solstice)
Buddhists have Bodhi Day (Budda's enlightenment day)
Islam has nothing because their calendar is funny
Kwanzaa is under 100 years old and therefore does not count as a holiday or culture
So what do the people of Africa and the Middle East do this time of year?

As an amateur Astronomer, I think its a lot of fun, personally. After all, there's literally only one second per year the Earth is closest to the Sun, and moving at her highest velocity in orbit around it. Simple as. :)

There's several other fun facts about it (quite apart from its 100Ky+ importance to humanity in general).

>Just what the FUCK is Veloren?
Veloren is a FREE AND OPEN SOURCE spiritual successor to the short-lived Cube World. It uses similar combat mechanics to cube world, similar crafting mechanics to Valheim, exploration quirks like BoTW, and a minecraft aesthetic. It has both a third person and first person mode, and is all about running around as cute little cube people and murderhoboing your surroundings (or the villages). It is a community-led project that gets almost daily updates. Most importantly, it can run on potato PCs.
copypasted from /vg/ because I'm too lazy to come up with something on my own
So you heard that right, is free and you can set up an account in 10 seconds or less, no email verifying none of that shit. The game is light and can easily run in a toaster.

Download it at: https://veloren.net/download/
/vg/ thread for more info https://smuglo.li/vg/res/10891.html
Just get the launcher, update the game and pick up your preferred RPG class and race (humans, orcs, dwarves, elves, etc)
The server is paid, that means it'll be open all day and for the days to come until the owner decides to pull the plug. You may see anons getting in and out through the whole event, so don't be shy and ask

Oops, thought this was a Christmas thread. Still wish it would be more normalized to celebrate the season into the new year. I think it's kind of lame that people seem to want to wrap everything up almost right after they're done opening their presents on Christmas Day.

Some real classical Americana right there! I feel like we've transported back into the film It's a Wonderful Life. I hope somebody plays that film this festival season.

Indeed. The traditional Christmastide season extends well into the new year in fact. And here on /christmas/ , we keep the 'doors open' until after Orthodox Christmas has past.

Christmas Cheers, Anon. :)

Something about old-school Christmas scenery just feels more appropriate to me. A lot of modern Christmas scenery and decor I just think comes across as sterile and comparatively lacking in warmth and gemuetlichkeit.
>I feel like we've transported back into the film It's a Wonderful Life. I hope somebody plays that film this festival season.
I only first got around to seeing that movie as an adult, and so it doesn't have any real nostalgic value for me compared to my childhood favorites, but I think it's one of the best Christmas movies I've seen.

Bit late in this thread, but "Merry Christmas".

https://archiveofourown.org/works/30454647 You might as well call this story, "The Torturer's Wife." The grief is good, as is the comfort they take with each other, but the sex scene is uninteresting, and so I skipped most of it. Not enough is done with how Lulu smells, feels, and even weighs. I feel that should be played up if you're in a relationship with a nonhuman being, whatever the stripe.

It is only by the grace of God, and that alone, * that we can all gather together here and celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, Author and Perfector of our faith, our Redeemer and Savior to the glory of our God the Father.
