Disagree with eberry word of what you say, all of that is lies.
>Chats are a good way
No, they are not a good way to do anything. Chats are the last resort when you have nowhere else to ask for help, but they are absolutely terrible for any form of socialization, they twist and ruin your brain. Socialize outside.
>IRC channels are populated with more grey beards than discord servers and matrix rooms are in between both.
IRC channels are populated by Serial Experiments Lain fans and paranoid characters who are on the frequency of battling mass surveillance (without leaving their homes). Grey beards retired long ago and either moved to more conventional platforms, or if they are IRC-minded, they only check it out as a part of their hobbies and don't socialize much.
>Pick a chat from a topic you enjoy and you will organically make friends this way.
Not unless you're really lucky, besides, there aren't a great many of topics discussed on IRC.
>If you are here it's because you also like the anon life.
It's a pure habit at this point, there is nothing I like about anonymity anymore.
>I feel safer this way
Safe from whom?
>I can discuss freely knowing there will be no consequences
This is the most cursed thing of anonymity, and it encourages low quality discussion so strongly that there aren't any imageboards left where you can discuss anything and observe a noteworthy level of insight in any of the people who reply. This especially I have found to be the most evil thing of anonymous discourse, it ruins your brain completely, makes you afraid of taking responsibility for what you say. A trap for the mentally weak that feeds the weakness on itself and multiplies it. I wish I invested my time into learning to deal with my issues instead of escaping to imageboards, because they are a safe place to rant.
