Comfy if you stick to the end, don't skip to the end either. There must be sad times so we can appreciate the happy ones, no matter how small they may be.

I thought /comfy/ might like to try this: Sumida Aquarium in Tokyo has requested that people video call their garden eels so that they don't forget what humans look like.

>"As the (aquarium) has been closed for a long time, the animals aren't seeing any other people other than the staff ...they're beginning to forget about humans. The garden eels in particular have started to burrow themselves into the sand and hide even when aquarium staff pass by their tank."

If the eels burrow into the sand when humans come near the staff can't check on them properly, so they've set up five iPads around the tank and request that members of the public use FaceTime to call the eels and show them their faces.

Pic related reads:
>Please help! The garden eels are forgetting about humans!
>EMERGENCY REQUEST
>GARDEN EEL FACE-SHOWING FESTIVAL
>#PleaseRememberHumans

>...
>So, we have an urgent request.
>Wood you mind showing them your face from home?
>This is the first time we've tried this.
>We don't know if it will work, but we'd still like to try.
>Please assist us in finding out.

If you FaceTime the addresses in pic related you can try to get through to the eels. They are available Please don't raise your voice or make loud noises because it will scare the eels. Only those with Apple devices that can use FaceTime can do this, unfortunately. They also ask to limit the call time to five minutes.

The festival is open now and will be open until 2pm JST (three hours from now). Not much time, but maybe they will extend the festival to more days.

They are also streaming the eel tank at https://twitter.com/i/broadcasts/1djGXQQrnBeJZ (without showing the iPads, obviously), so you can watch the eels watch humans if you can't get through.

This video is so wild. Cozy and weird/crazy all at the same time. It's so odd to se marsupials treating a dog like a human might. It's further disturbing to see them both nearly initiate interbreeding with one another only to go back to the cute petting bit. I don't know what to think about this but I want to see more.

Thanks Anon, Raveys are awesome!

>from the 'Did you know?' dept:
For some measure of 'intelligence', did you know that Ravens are literally the 2nd most-intelligent species on the planet (behind homo sapiens sapiens). Smarter than any form of whale, smarter than any form of mammal other than us, smarter than any other birb (Jays are next) or fish.
>tl;dr

Where I work, I sometimes deal with birbs stuck in the grain elevators and I can assure you ravens are by far the cleverest when I try to catch them to set them free. They litteraly brainquack me. The dumbest birds I have to catch are by far the pigeons (those are bretty easy to catch).

I love ravens, they are beautiful and misunderstood birds and have an important value in the folklore and ancient mystic.

Those guys are clearly just playing around in the snow for fun, just the way some kids might do so.

Canine and feline energy in the same animal is a good mixture. My dog lounges around and refuses to interact like most dogs do (tail wagging, greeting you at the door etc.) but he sits in the room near me like a cat does. I'd call it "aloof companionship". In other way's hes like a dog especially when it comes to begging for food or going on walks. But sometimes I cant tell if he was raised with cats originally because of his behaviour - hes a rescue dog I bought from a shelter when he was 7 years old so no idea what his upbringing was like.
