ITT, we discuss boards not yet migrated somewhere

Anoncafe Admins have created an official listing:
https://anon.cafe/meta/res/16569.html#16571

Thankfully, many boards have already found a home. Unfortunately some have not, and seem in danger of being lost to the winds of time. Are there ones in this group that Anons consider good enough to warrant migrating here without BOs? If so, who will step up to own & manage them here 'after the fact'?

This conversation is meant to save worthy boards from disappearing. Please contribute to this discussion if you have thoughts on the matter, Anons.

Less than 10 days & counting!

Does anyone know how I would go about getting an anon.cafe board migrated to here?
I'm not the BO or anything but I'd like it is /lego/ could have at least a copy of the board here. It seems like it's abandoned. I'd hate to lose all the content.

---
>by way of explanation:
This 'starter' conversation (beginning with this post, through the next 6) was migrated from /comfy/ to this new, more general, topical thread on /meta/ .

You still have time through the normal procedure Anon.
1. You'll need to make an account on anon.cafe, then make a new thread on the /meta/ board there requesting ownership of /lego/.
https://anon.cafe/meta/
Given the short time window available, and the current status of /lego/ (abandoned), I expect they will immediately turn it over to you.
2. Then, you'll just follow the standard migration request protocol here:
>>>/meta/64

Good luck, Anon! Just refer back to this post if you have any questions. :)

I think if it's clear that the original BO abandoned the board, it can be migrated. But getting the banners might be a bit more complicated in this case.
Replies: >>548
>>8722
Basically, almost everything posted newer than ~2mos ago there are all questions related to saving the board itself. The BO never responded.
https://anon.cafe/lego/res/1.html#1316 , ...

Here's Anoncafe's official 'status board' for migrations:
https://anon.cafe/meta/res/16569.html#16571

And their boards listing (note /lego/ is 'ghosted' [ie, the BO hasn't logged in a good while]) :
https://anon.cafe/boards.js

I think it would be good for this concerned Anon to take over ownership of the board regardless, so it has a good BO to watch over & care for it. I think this is true whether he goes the standard route of migration, or simply takes ownership of trash/lego/ 'after the fact'.

What do you think, Admin?
Replies: >>548
>>8723
I think I'd just post a notice on their board (or an email if I can find one) that someone requested to migrate the board, and if he doesn't respond within a week that random anon will get it.
Even though one week might be too much, considering anon.cafe goes down in 10 days. Maybe just writing something that "we're migrating your board, if you want to get it back write to me" is better?

It doesn’t help that the accounts there are screwy even when you literally wrote down the username/password.

Got locked out of my BO account for workbench twice. That site is probably just being put out of its misery due to technical problems. Though site moderation was helpful when asking for help.

I, for one, nominate anon/p/ to this group. We've tried to ask the BO there about migrating, but I'm not sure if there's a sufficiently-good impression he's planning to move on that. [1]

I certainly don't want to lose /p/ . Along with the (now rescued!) /loomis/ board, I would have been willing to take on BO'ng it if no one else does (and the current one doesn't choose to migrate it before anon.cafe closes).

I think that makes sense, yes.

>>544
So, are you willing to BO the new trash/lego/ , Anon?

>>545
I'd suggest you simply create a new thread on anon/meta/ , and re-request ownership then migrate here as per info here : (>>540)

@Admin
Offtopic, but do you think you could make a pull-request that rewrites the orphaned crosslinks within a moved conversation? After all, we already know the original post's threading chain, plus the new target board and it's next post numbers. Seems not too difficult to track, and would prevent potentially-confusing 'abandoned', original (/comfy/, in this case) quote crosslinks. E.G.:

Um, that would only work if all the posts are moved in once, because I'm pretty sure after the move the relation to the original board is lost.
They are all moved at once, yes. Thus my reference to 'moved conversation'. It's part of the management tools that Tom added (thankfully!), and very handy for just this type situation.

The posts are all ticked, then the 'move posts' selected (giving a board/thread no.) If I were approaching solving this, I would probably temp store all the crosspost associations, then pre-allocate all the needed post numbers needed on the new board location, then simply move them over one-by-one, assigning the new crosspost quotes for each one, calculated from the temp association. Then just delete all the originals.

I'm sure much of the mechanics of all this has already been solved in Tom's 'move posts' code. Just the rewriting of the new crosspost numbers is left to do. Make sense?
Replies: >>552
>>551
Umm, that's some nice, almost spaghetti code which already tries to handle all the ways crossrefs can become invalid. It doesn't try to renumber them.
https://gitgud.io/fatchan/jschan/-/blob/master/models/forms/moveposts.js

And yes, the calm down I wrote on /agdg/ applies to you too. You don't have to start a shitstorm just because someone said something mean/bad/etc, it's either delete if it's clearly against the rules, otherwise ignore. And on boards where I'm not a BO/Vol I only enforce global rules, and I expect you to do the same. Thank you.

I'm not sure I'd call it a shitstorm.

I made a post on /lego/ explaining the situation that we're trying to get a board migration in order.

>I'm a little hesitant to say yes because I've never done it before.
You'll be fine, there's nothing to it. And there's plenty of old hands here willing to help you out, Anon. BO'g /lego/ should be easy, it's a slow board.

Do you have an account set up yet here on trashchan? You'll need that. Good luck! :)

No, you can't register directly. Post your request to >>64 (ignore the proof step as you're not the BO of the original board). If you want to be a vol ask the BO to ask me to create an account (might be a bit roundabout, I know).
Replies: >>573 >>581

Heh, well I care more about the Anons who participate there. Particularly the BO who is doing his best! :D

But sure, I'll be happy to lend a hand for any board here on Trashchan, if they'd like it.

>>560
Seconded.

BTW
@Admin
What's the story with /late/ ? I think I remember saying they wanted to move on the 15th... but it will already be too late to grab the board by then.

The Anoncafe Admins have set the deadline to 2024-03-15 00:00:00 UTC. This means the last possible hour to move is 2300 on the 14th .

Yes, it could, but whoever takes over will have to do a little cleaning on the catalog I think. There's a bunch of threads (with only a few if any replies) that practically amount to spam.
>>564
It's just what the BO asked. Technically you could run BUMP at 2024-03-14 23:55 to grab everything before it's down, but it's a risky business (I also don't know how exact that time is, will they shut it down at 00:00:00 exactly or is it possible that it will be online for a couple more hours, or is it possible that they will pull the plug a bit earlier...)
Replies: >>567 >>571

You should pull it a few hours earlier, just to be safe.

My personal instinct is they will. They have been pretty exemplary as site Admins in general, IMO.

>>567
Seems sensible to me.
>>563
Sorry about the misunderstanding. I'm not really focused properly on this right now. I seem to have caught a cold and I'm pretty drained.
Were you just going to migrate /lego/ here first?
>>560
/cyber/ is dead, it's been dead since 2019 and there is no community there. Just use the thread on /server/
Replies: >>575 >>576
>>574
If there is no community, who will participate in that thread?
Replies: >>576
>>574
>>575
For some odd reason, there seems to be at least one person who is adamant about killing anon/cyber/ off entirely. The current active thread there is an example of this. But regardless of whatever motivation this idividual(s) may have in the matter, it's still a good board with some very interesting content on it.

This thread's topic is discussing boards that shouldn't be lost during the closure of anon.cafe coming in just a few days. Along with at least one other anon ITT, I believe /cyber/ should be preserved. Any community 'chips' regarding it's migrated form can fall where they may.
Replies: >>577 >>580 >>588
>>576
Should there just be a new /cyber/that was made from scratch on here then? Or would it be easier to transfer it over to either here or Junkuchan
Replies: >>578

Trashmin has perfected a smooth-as-silk migration pipeline, AFAICT. The Junkuchan Webmin also has something in place as well. Migration isn't an issue, from the technical perspective.
Replies: >>579
>>578
Oh okay. I was just wondering
But as I said earlier I'm not the owner of /cyber/ so I dunno if I or someone else should try and transferring it over

It seems to me the board is abandoned in effect. As Trashmin said, you can apply for it here (>>563) to assume the BO role over it. Also, you can leave messages there on anon/cyber/ , as per: (>>543)

Oh stfu. You don't have to save every board like some woman who wants to save every puppy from a shelter. Read the posts I made on /cyber/. There is no one else there other than random schizos. The community is gone. Let it rest in peace. If you want to preserve it just archive the board.

Yeah, I need help archiving the threads on that site via archive.today (I don't know how the situation is regarding the Wayback Machine's archives) since I don't want all the threads, especially the the unmigrated boards, to fade into oblivion later this afternoon. I've already got /christian/, a chunk of /cyber/, /f/, /p/, /christmas/, /retro/, /valis/ and /I/ but I need more help with the other boards since this is putting some stress on my computer and the process is pretty slow. Not to mention there's a bunch of files on /server/ that need to be saved like the CSS stuff.

I really don't want a repeat of what happened with Fatchan a few years ago, I remember there were some pretty good threads that sadly were lost forever when the site abruptly died.

Here's some archives of the biggest threads but the individual pics need to be saved too unless /p/ is going to be migrated here or if it already got migrated somewhere else.

I was waiting for some boards to migrate to have them as closer neighbors but i failed to take into account the end date was the 15th (and not the 17th like i thought) so i got cocky and i am practically fucked unless the Trashchan administration wants/still can migrate the board as i am still willing to make it live... at least once a week or almost everyday if the dumbass city slicker intraweb technicians decide to bring their hardware into my shack.

I think i have all of them from the pinned threads, the ones from the dumps made by some horny anon i have none, if he wanted them to use as repository for hotlinks then even if they get migrated he will get screwed, so i don't know if they are crucial.
