A few years ago my friend introduced me to Glass Animals through Zaba on cassette. I fell in love with the band as we sat in the sun and listened to the music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7R6SITSeiRo&list=PLxq4Sc6E9hgLs3MzfOVqkJOIOzJlB04rm

Lately it's been the Ion Maiden soundtrack, which is uneven but berry good in places. More recently discovered Thunder Force IV, which is magic in the form of FM synth. Duke Nukem 3d has some great tunes like Stalker and Aliens Say Your Prayers. #1, though, is Wrong Number. Three hours of Carpenter Brut and Perturbator and all that great darksynth. Soundole did an album of VG town themes called "Winds of Home" you all might get a kick out of.
I have a few go-to albums if I want to listen all the way through. One is 슈퍼마켓Yes! We're Open by 식료품groceries. It's mallsoft but I find it berry listenable if I'm in the right mood: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cju6MvJfVRI Another is the two Ar Nosurge Genometric Concert albums without the short battle songs. I especially love Class::CIEL_NOSURGE;: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPghnoIpLCM I also love Lxa ti-cia. Someone who knows more than I do about music once told me that it resembles medieval-period European music in its sharp changes to the voice line, but I just like it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8aQpLLZsbA If I want something to put on in the background I'll sometimes reach for a Cafe de Touhou album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3w1G2FPGYQ It's not what OP asked exactly, but if I don't want to commit to an album and want something to listen to, I like listening to Digitally Imported's Chillout channel or maybe the Electronic Pioneers if I'm feeling adventurous. It removes my choice paralysis and frees me from wanting to swap songs. Some of the artists I've discovered from there are Koan and AmBeam, like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lT9WyVdYvyk

This record has really been growing on me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UeTbf1eefc4&list=PLWPzamD2fpykHKEpJIDZVeDD3UO0gAOC4 I only heard it a few years ago, but it makes me feel kind of nostalgic for the early 2000s. It almost reminds me of music you'd hear on a car commercial back then or something. It might lack the emotional complexity and organic sounds of Boards of Canada (who eberry downtempo musician seems to get compared to), but on the flip side there's a peacefulness to it that most of their stuff doesn't have.

Holy quacking get. Ok so I accidentally posted early without extra links and maybe it was a godsend for the digits. Here's an effortpost with music.
I like vaporwave more as an aesthetic more than anything. The absolute, pardon my modern lingo, vibe of this musical paradox call vaporwave is fascinating. It elicits feelings in even the most mundane tracks of those powerful ballads on a live stage with pyrotechnics. Shows you a world within a world.... There's a mix of Vice City, Hawaii five-0, Driver (ok autismos), and various other genres not including film in there. The feeling of the music can come from the real thing - the actual 70s-90s music that exists. But vaporwave really transforms that into something I like to call "manufactured nostalgia" or a digital recreation of a time that never existed. It sort of did, but we're not turning this thread into a 9/11 conspiracy thread. There's a ton of ways to access really unique and fantastic takes on those classic hits you may have never heard during the period of music you probably consider the "golden age".
Ok enough with the rant. The stuff is good, I'm just typing some thoughts to flesh out a 1112!
Give some love to Vapor Memory who has seemingly dedicated his youtube career to cataloging and archiving various aspects of the vaprowave WAVE. There's more than enough content in there for anyone reading to find something that suits them.
https://www.youtube.com/@VaporMemory
I'd also recommend Jason Sanders who features a lot of the obscure variety that vaporwave has to offer.

comfy alignments of same number here.
Sometimes I cry listening to runescape斯凱利, don't know exactly why as I never played Old School Runescape.
Vaporwave can be a really moving genre as it can sometimes piss me off when trying too hard to mimic the original 80's / 90's vibe. I do enjoy a good vaporwave track but I don't like when they force too much on the nostalgia meme.
But overall yes, vaporwave is a comfy genre by itself.

Discovered recently some good Korean folk / rock.

I totally agree by the forced nature of some of it. Funny enough the fact someone slowed down the Runescape tracks and added some filters is by definition forced haha. But it's still damn good. I'm not sure how you get the cry feeling when listening to that if you didn't play it? I did as a child and there about 2 of those tracks in that hour long playlist that really hit it on the head and make me think of days gone by. But how does it affect you? Does it just have that "feel" to it that's hard to describe?

capsule was part of a scene called early 00s "neo shibuya kei", which occurred after the OG 90s scene (Cornelius, Flipper's Guitar, and Pizzicato Five especially for Capsule) that song specifically is part of a subgenre called "picopop", which is part of the neo scene but was more focused on chiptune and electronic elements, and overly cutesy style you'll have to look into this yourself and listen, because i can't tell you what you like. there are some lists on RYM for instance, literally just google the terms i've mentioned and you'll find plenty of artists Plus Tech Squeeze Box's release CARTOOOM has strangely become quite popular recently, so you might see more discussion of the genre / scene. but it's a lot less chill than this. Serani Poji is another neo group that may appeal to you

Comfy as well. I remember having to grind for hours trying to get all the materials to upgrade all the weapons, because my autism demanded it. Not once did I ever tire of any of the songs. This was the OST that - together with Akiko Shikata - indirectly got me into folkwave and complex layered voice compositions. There’s just something so comfy about the idea that the future is not gleaming chrome and corporate exploitation but rather a kind of gentle pastoral tech-mysticism.

I was listening to FREYJA.sys by Kaoling recently. Here’s a version sung by humans rather than Vocaloids, though the Vocaloid version has its own charms too: https://youtu.be/ZoChI5raLxM

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9OSweA0qX0&list=PLDvC7C21JsaasHILuog5D9Ink0a57I-dH&index=6 (can't seem to find a playlist of just this EP unfortunateley)

It always gives me this warm fuzzy feeling, like being in love with nobody in particular. Especially Yvette Young's vocals are the caca.

And I guess I can throw in
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xfr5GSRHoyE&list=PLIoFxSeC9xA5ayMdkLZd_erhDEyjgamXC as a little extra. Someone showed it to me yesterday, I'm listening to it right now and it's /comfy/ as hell, just doesn't quite fit the them of the three I posted above

It's like being wrapped in a cocoon of noise, melancholy and soft anger. It fills me with heat as if a massive star is about to explode inside me.

I often miss the overly offensive era of YouTube. Not like Joji's newer albums are bad, but for my taste they're too dramatic and sad, compared to Pink Season's (and Pink Guy's debut album) constant irony and dark humor. You just don't get to see this sort of stuff berry often anymore.

Yea same. Seeing as YouTube has changed their terms significantly it is likely this kind of content will never return, or at least it won't be as prevalent as it once was. Really sad since most of my favorite guys on YouTube have now either been banned, left or changed entirely, denouncing their passed "edginess".

Anyways here's what I like to chill and listen to. It's the songs The World at Large and Float On by Modest Mouse played back to back since they fade into each other.

I think I'd been playing around with LMMS for a month or so before I made that.

I'd played keyboards and a few other instruments for a year before that though, so I think I just played around with it and recorded it and I decided it was good enough 😋

I'm bretty sure I was using Spitfire Audio plugins.

I've now got a lot of experience of making simulations of real instruments because of my degree - I was considering playing with these and starting up again, so the nice words mean a lot.

Wow, that's much better than I could have done by that point. It's notable that you successfully avoided the almost irresistible newbie pitfall of soaking eberrything in effects. It's so easy to turn a mix into mud if you're not careful.
>I'd played keyboards and a few other instruments for a year before that though, so I think I just played around with it and recorded it and I decided it was good enough 😋
That must have really helped. I put off getting a MIDI controller for way too long and was stuck using a mouse and keyboard for coming up with ideas.

Anyone know Sixto Rodriguez? I've just discovered his music after watching the documentary about him. I've been listening to this album a lot in the past few days, which is surprising since I normally don't normally like this kind of music.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_tTacSzZRo
Nobody in the U.S. had ever heard of him when he was making music, but his music ended up making its way from America to South Africa (he was apparently bretty big in Australia too). He ended up becoming a huge star there, and it's thought that bootleg copies of his music ended up selling more copies than Elvis in South Africa. Leftist activists ended up taking inspiration from his songs over there. As big as he was, nobody knew anything about the man himself. There were rumors he lit himself on fire onstage after his second album, but decades after he stopped recording music his fans finally found out his whereabouts. In reality he'd been living a quiet, working-class life and only ended up dying this year.

The whole "socially conscious" thing is bretty lame to me, but some of the songs are bretty catchy.

I enjoyed these two earlier today. I feel like these albums realy blend their seemingly mismatched influences nicely into something cohessive despite having such a silly presentation.

Think I might have posted this before, but maybe that was in the anon cafe days. More folks need to chill to this.

This is nice. It doesn't sound the same, but it makes me think of Mum or Sigur Ros or something.
These are nice.

If the intro feels like too much, just wait for it to unfold and bloom a bit.

Wow, I didn't think anyone else knew about this masterpiece. My favorite song from it is 'Don't Bother They're Here'.
