Heh, maybe not. But there have been two or three times I wanted to chat with you over the past few weeks, but didn't know where to do so really.

I was going to discuss the torchat thread that was posted, and let you know it wasn't really a berry /comfy/ spot. But I didn't want to presume to rm it myself w/o mentioning it to you in case you saw it differently. That's all for now, I see you've already taken care of things.

This is the /late/ BO. The users over on /late/ decided that they wood be okay with having the main board here on the cafe because of the stability. Thanks for asking about this particular issue, I'm really not sure what position to take on this type of subject.
Maybe I'm a "too good for this world" person and don't see the evil where it's hidden but I tend to believe that anon is sincere and just needs some kind words (this is what someone may be looking for by visiting /comfy/ and if it may be even a little help, why not).
But I remain on my guard because I know that this kind of subject can become quite problematic. So for the time being I prefer to leave the subject open, but if decisions have to be taken with regard to moderation I'll act accordingly if I see that the topic becomes mischievous.

OK, I've just read /meta/'s announcement that Café is coming to an end.

This makes me really sad as this site was like a second home to me and (I'm sure) to many other anons.

Regarding this situation, I don't think I'll continue to be BO of the new /comfy/ once we've found a new home. Due to some changes in my life, I don't have the time to manage the migration and I think it's best for me to let someone else take the job.

I'll help work on this problem until we've found a new home and wherever /comfy/ goes, I'll still be part of the adventure.

If we can arrange to move /comfy/ there (using our own BUMP archives of it), and it can be 'magically' restored there, perhaps you could reconsider becoming the BO at the new home? You've been a really dedicated and good BO for this /comfy/ edition, and I'm sure we'd all love you to continue at it if you can.

Maybe in a few days you'll feel better Anon. We're all bummed by this news.

Personally, I don't mind being on the webring, but I want to make sure I'm making the right decision about which site to migrate to.
As for CSS, I prefer to do it myself because I really enjoy it :)

I guess it depends if you want to be on a site where the status quota wood still be the same (on the webring, admin being mostly in the background, other boards having different/conflicting rules) or if you want to be more of a core part of a site (admin being more visible, not on the webring, other boards having similar rules). A few other boards find wapchan "controversial" but this seems to be due to reasons that have nothing to do with the actual moderation of the site. If you moved to wapchan you could probably merge with /chill/ which seems to be their relaxed board.

•  The Admin of Trashchan, yourself, and myself have already begun the process of migrating there. He has already begun the work itself in earnest, and is operating completely in good-faith towards us and other boards here (such as /retro/ ).

•  The Trashchan Admin is technically-competent, is forward-thinking (eg, planning ahead for someone else to in-effect be able to keep the site running should he disappear for any reason [1]), is clearly an Anon at heart, and I've been a part of that site for years (~4y). He knows what he's doing, and will work directly with anons to solve problems (which I've proven personally).

•  I'm sure the Wapchan Admin did a competent job helping the latest version of /kind/ get back together again, and I have no reason to suspect that site of any ill-intent towards anons. Rather the opposite in fact; the new /kind/min & community seems quite happy there AFAICT. I simply don't know Wapchan, as they are new to me.

•  Clearly, my counsel to you is that we move forward with the current operation and migrate to Trashchan. This will be the smoothest pathway at this time to a trouble-free migration + full-restoration of our board there, I believe. It seems apparent that the Admin himself is doing pretty much all the heavy-lifting for board auto-migrations using BUMP archives.

Just checking in and I'm really happy to see both Wapchan and Trashchan admins did a great job for migrating /comfy/ on their sites.
I'm berry exited to start on a fresh adventure once the Cafe will close.

I'm not sure which one to use as our main board and forour bunker. I need to take the time to use them a bit and see how things works under the hood.

I'll keep you updated really soon and sorry for not having been here a lot these last days, I'm on a travel trip and canot use theinternet a lot.
Tomorrow I will be back home so I will have more time to look at that.

Theming work almost finished, still have to figure how to implement post highlighting and some details but I'm bretty satisfied since the jschan engine is different and I had to adapt the syntax and all... Enough for today.
Also Trashmin is a nice dude and always prompt to help, it gives me good hope for the future of /comfy/.

As the default spoiler image was nice on the cafe but not so on Trashchan, I will see if it is something that can be changed, if you have any suggestions let me now :)

My wrist is better but I'm waiting for a call from the doctor to take stock.

I've done some CSS experiments on here and ran into some issues, I'm not sure if I can migrate /server/ to this site without losing its CSS functionalty

But please, I suggest you simply migrate here to Trashchan for 'safekeeping' at the very least -- at least as an experiment -- to see if you can make things work here 'in situ' as it were. I'm not sure how exactly it worked on Lynxchan, but you have filters here too, Manage->Filters, then you can add words or phrases (one per line).
If you want to migrate over the filters from anon.cafe, you'll have to do it manually I'm afraid. (I don't think filter list is available publicly)

Matching only whole words can (in most cases) be done by adding a space before or after. Although regex would be far better to handle all non-word characters.
I suspect jschan doesn't want to (or at least is hesitant to) add regex filters due to possible ReDoS attacks by a malicious board owner. It wouldn't be hard to edit in regex filter functionality, just be advised of the risk.

Yeah, that's why I wrote I'm not completely sure what is the good approach. On the other hand, when you post, you probably don't want the replacements to be ignored just because you forgot that you're still logged in. But if it works differently when posting and editing, that's super weird.

The word troon derives years ago from Tranny + Goon. It's a form of raiding done against a board. For instance the Soyjack raids on this very board were done by troons on the webring I won't name names, but if you know you know.

Hello, I just came here and noticed my browser (Firefox) chokes hard when visiting this board.
This appears to be caused by backdrop-filter: blur(3px). Removing it fixes the performance issue.
AFAICT this rule doesn't have a visible effect, so I'd remove it.

This seems likely in the general case. However as anyone who has followed along knows -- many topics can have huge secondary political connotations. Robowaifus, for instance. While I honestly like such sites as wapchan/kind , and think they serve a good purpose, we ourselves wouldn't fit in there at all simply b/c we're all honest about the true state of our CY, GH world.

/comfy/ OTOH is a remarkably-unique place AFAICT. It maintains an exceptional balance in this regard. I'm very glad it has survived all these years, and am quite glad to have invested some efforts into it's survival.

It's probably because those types of far right politics have really poisoned the well when it comes to imageboards. It's hard to complain about leftypol type politics or moderate politics on imageboards when they are berry rare in comparison. There's also the fact that not eberryone on bluesky or twitter is into politics. A lot of that writeup was about how the imageboard format has advantages but many people on mainstream platforms are hesitant to use imageboards because they tend to have berry loose rules. It's clear that the audience he's trying to cultivate is different from the vast majority of altchans out there so there is no surprise that he wood use different methods of growing the site.

I'm using this board from multiple computers (Linux and Microsoft) and using different web browsers from different IPs and never felt any issue specific to /comfy/. Sometimes the entire site (Trashchan) may be broken but it's generally sporadic and Trashmin does a great job at fixing cacas.
Please don't act as rude and maybe try to provide more technical informations (maybe posting it in >>>/meta/ should be more relevant) instead of just spitting your tantrum here.

I'm a regular since some years (maybe around end of 2010's or beginning of 2020's ?). When the board was on anon.cafe (RIP).
Just before the closing of the cafe, ex-BO nuked the board and it was brought back to life with a new BO and the help of anon.
Hope an oldfriend can bring more insights.

I'm just a fren who wasn't there, so I can't say anything much about this: but I did hear from others that the board goes back to 8ch (the real one, not the so-called one from today). Though our own (different) board was also there as well back then, sadly I didn't know about /comfy/ yet. Once the debacle that happened there threw everyone out on their ear, many boards soon scrambled to find a new home. /comfy/ was one, and it landed at the based site anon.cafe .

We all spent a few years together there (I found out about /comfy/ quite soon during that era). The board may have changed hands during that period. 

Terribly, the next-to-last BO there decided abruptly and with no warning to anyone to just kill the board. Everything gone. A few of us from around the Webring rebuilt it back up using some backups from our frens at /robowaifu/ -- one post at a time, and all by hand. Very tedious, but the new BO (who had requested to take over the board URI from the Cafe Admins) did a great job. He took over & got it all done and we soon had our /comfy/ back. Hooray!  :)

Sadly, the Cafe closed not long after, but the Admins gave us all plenty of warning -- about 2 month's time IIRC. The affectionately-known Trashmin here at Trashchan.xyz had already long been a trusted part of the Webring, and graciously agreed to help save boards who would soon be cast adrift from anon.cafe ; with some fancy software work, he migrated most boards over that requested it from him -- of which /comfy/ was one of the first. And here we are still in our new home on Trash!  :D
